One of the Commodore 64's finest budget motocross games is also one of the games that, in some weird way, shaped Jeff Gerstmann's early history with video games. Let's look at the Mastertronic classic, Action Biker, which may or may not feature Clumsy Colin and KP Skips. What's a KP Skips, anyway?

thank u for respecting my crisp based culture.
I'm more of a blood myself.
Enjoy your gaming.
I'm taking the first comment to say that I'm enjoying this series and I'm looking forward to more!
Mastertronic games started out at the bargain price of £1.99, real pocket money stuff. They would later add the M.A.D. label for a range of games that cost a whopping £2.99. The most notable game for me was 'Spellbound', an adventure game from '85 which has what I thought was a waaaay ahead of its time interface.
This seems to be very impressive for 1985!
This is just like My Summer Car.
I looked it up, and I can't find any speedruns of Action Biker. You should grind out a speedrun on stream to set the work record.
Yes mate.
I play this constantly.
Great snack aswell.
Kikstart 2 is the true GOAT of British 80s bikes on ramps gaming.
Is this the collectathon origin story?
This game has a weird zen, I kinda dig it.
There has never been a better time to Enjoy Your Gaming
Okay, this broke my brain somewhat. I was thinking of the other crisp tie-in with a mascot named Colin: Pushover on the Amiga. Truly a great time to be called Colin.
That's not the only quaver based game for the Amiga. Colin Curly was a playable character in the Ocean puzzle game One Step Beyond :)
Not only is this game really wide open, but the scrolling is really good as well considering that.
oh man I loved this game. Still holds up pretty well - proper little 3D open world in miniature. KP Skips were (still are) a prawn cocktail flavour crisp that melt in the mouth - shaped like a shell
They have tried other flavours over the years, but I dont think they ever endured
lol that sounds VILE! Thanks for the info!
Now I want some skips. Or Frazzles. Also I remember Mastertronic well. However now they should come back as a brand of energy drink named 'MasterTonic'.
Out of all the old games I've seen Jeff play, this is literally the only one that I think I'd genuinely like playing today. (no offense to Mr. Do)
Being "open world" and being able to find upgrades scattered about that permanently improve your bike makes the game feel 2 decades ahead of its time.
Wild when you think Jeff has played hundreds of different old games.
It’s got action, it’s got a biker, that’s what I want from my games.
I remember spending hours playing this with my dad when I was a kid. My memory says it was called crazy Colin though as my uncle was called Colin and it made us laugh.
I played this A LOT as a kid with the same experience as Jeff. Not knowing what to do, and where the challenge was because of the built in cheats and trainers. That music will stick in my head forever. Very cool to see it again now, and it holds up very well for a C64 game!
This is actually pretty impressive. The level feels so much more like a world than other games at that time. This is Untitled Goose Game of its day - I get oddly similar vibes.
Where's the internet archive of wicked game cracking group splash screens, Gerstmann?
Skips are the only prawn cocktail flavoured crisp I have ever enjoyed
It’s like Skyrim with Action Biker
See that Rollercoaster? You can go there.
How deep is the Action Biker lore?
Jeff is in the gaming HOF full stop.
But is he in the Jeff Gerstmann Hall of Fame?
Wow. This game looks great for the time. I can totally seeing this being a great game to play with buddies, talking shit about stuff and just zooming around. Thanks Jeff for being a fantastic video game historian.
This game was super cool for its time. I wonder what an Action Biker reboot would look like now?
Jeff playing old games is one of my favorite things.
I love quaint old little open-world games like this and Skateboardin' on the Atari 2600.
An open world collect-a-thon with platformer elements and inventory management? o_0 Fancy!
I can absolutely see the appeal of this. What a fascinating, weirdly ambitious game for its time.
Played this a lot. Still have my C64. I always thought the music was faster?
It's missing the ability run people over. Indie devs, get on it. But keep that level of detail.
This was pleasant to learn about, thanks Jeff
it took me a while to "get it" on this one. but the idea of just roaming around and hitting sick jumps in the mid 80s is pretty awesome. almost like a primitive Grand Theft Auto. little bit of Burnout Paradise with the vehicle exploration
Not a bad little game for less than $5.
YES!!! More C64 stuff please!!
40:13 - The world behaving as it ought to
No fucking way! This is the greatest game of all time!
If Jack the Nipper, How to be a Complete Bastard, Trashman end up in the Hall of Fame then I'll believe we live in a simulation and someone is fucking with me.
Cooperstown could learn a thing or two from this guy
This song is real fucking good
Through the modern lens this title seems like it has aspects of both sandbox and simulation games. The feeling i get watching you play reminds me Darta-cars and your Getting Over it Reference seems kinda perfect actually. Yep, now I'm just playing the V.O. and it works here too.
P.S. Drink some nutritious stuff on stream. My mom says you gotta diversify your soda-popfolio.
One of the C64 games my brother and I kept going back to. It had the one song, but I loved it.
Played the absolute hell out of this game.
I loved your last playthrough of this and other C64 games, and this video was great too. I can listen to this kind of fun commentary on old games forever
