Modern Vintage Gamer just did a video on how the devs leveraged a bug in the C64 SID sound chip to play back sampled audio. Now it makes a lot more sense why voices sound the way they do.
Space taxi is a game I loved playing on the C64, most people have no clue what I'm talking about when they ask me about my favorite games I played as a kid. Happy to see Jeff playing it... Brings back great memories.
Such a great game. For that invisible barrier, you go fast at it and it'll let you through, but iirc it stops you right away so you don't bash into the roof of the level. Also in the beanstalk level, if you land on pad 1 and get a new passenger before 2 and 3 finish growing, you can exit immediately. Kind of cool to kind of get one over on the game, since so many of the stages are so mean. :)
Pretty well fleshed out concept for how early it was. I can totally see myself playing that some. Also do agree, it could for sure use a new one or remake or so with some fresh new ideas and a fresh coat of paint. Only problem I have with people remaking things in modern day, they add in all the wrong ideas, like making the timer more aggressive, or try to shackle it down with microtransactions or all that additional bull that takes away from the core idea.
Loved this game as a kid. Unfortunately, our bootleg copy only had side 1 of the disk, so after a certain point I'd always get a loading error. The game would still play, but all of the sprites would be scrambled, with new hit detection that made the later levels impossible. It didn't stop me from trying, though! I was happy to see a PC ripoff in the early 90s with similar gameplay. only with a caveman theme, called "Ugh!".

This is by far the best Space Taxi gameplay I've ever seen!

C64 and VIC20...Pirates Gold Baby! Shows my age, probably older than Jeff
HEY, TAXI
I wonder if you had to go fast through that invisible barrier.
The little animations are really nice by C64 standard.

24:16 Still got paid, sorry sucker. There were over 50 recorded fireballs in UK last year, imagine being that guy.
Cloudpunk is just Space Taxi with a story?
PTSD Taxi.
Space Taxi 99
What a disappointment mile high taxi was, for those of us hoping for a Fifth Element taxi simulator
but who would win between Space Taxi and Bubble Ghost
Space Taxi.
@@JeffGerstmannShow Do you think MGS 1 for PSX has aged well?
Hey Jeff, what’s your thoughts on rocking a rhyme that’s right on time?
