I met Mr. Rickman in a little chocolate shop in Toronto. He was bent over looking in a case when I walked in, so obviously I could not see him. When the clerk came in and started asking if he needed anything he started talking. I said to myself “well, that sure does sound like Alan Rickman!” When he stood up and and I saw him I was shocked. We actually started talking about chocolate. It was surreal. This was before Harry Potter made his name well known (even though people probably very well knew his face and voice) … I desperately wanted to tell someone but every time I tried to mention it that day (I was traveling solo), no one knew who that was! LOL. I kept saying “Colonel Brandon” … probably should have just said the “villain from Die Hard” LOL!!
He was perfection. As he was in all is roles, but this one he really makes it so clear with just his face exactly how much he wants her to love him. He is so handsome and restrained and your heart breaks for him.
Loved that Austen wrote that Brandon eventually got his hearts desire in his love for younger Marianne, that his patience and true love finally won her over in seeing his character. And Alan Rickman was the perfect choice.
At least it ended well for Colonel Brandon, poor Snape was the unwitting cause of the death of Lily Potter - now that was a heartbreaking story of doomed unrequited love.
I love this edit of the Colonel and Marianne; the way the warmth returns on Brandon's face as soon as he hears that Marianne is well. What a cinematic gem!
Yes!! That is a scene I love to see over and over. The acting he does in that scene is so deep and beautiful and he shows more talent in that one scene than some actors show in an entire movie. I really miss him. So sad he had to leave us so soon.
I fell in love with Alan Rickman when he played the villain in Die Hard. His voice and presence is perfect regardless of the character he is portraying. Also loved Truly, Madly, Deeply. He was a great actor and will be missed.
He is so missed. What a beautiful man and sublime actor; whether he played the hero or villain and what mellifluous voice. Like the late Gregory Peck it oozed out from their skin and soul like rich chocolate. I could listen to Alan recite the phone book. Like Robin Williams and George Michael, I genuinely cried when I heard Alan had died. Thank you for your gifts, we all miss you and will love you forever 💔
What's misleading is that most of the happy moments exhibited by Marianne were related to her disappointing love interest Willoughby. Rickman's portrayal of the Colonel's unrequited love is excellently relayed, and well, quite heartbreaking to watch. But Jane Austin knew her reader and that the true of heart will win out in the end. Odd coincidence, we lost this marvelous actor at the same time I lost my dear brother who had the same first name.
Forget D'arcy. Rickman's Colonel Brandon far surpasses anything the former had to offer. For any fans that haven't seen it before, "Truly, Madly, Deeply" is an amazing Alan Rickman performance.
Alan Rickman was one of the greatest actors of all time. I still can't believe he's gone 💔 , I've enjoyed watching him in every movie. I'm so sorry I missed seeing him on the stage. And this was one of my favorite ❤ movies the cast were all incredible 😍 ❤
Alan Rickman became one of my favorite actors because of this movie; before he was just the villain in Die Hard, or Robin Hood (starring Kevin Costner) to me. Still very saddened every time I see a HP movie.
This scene is as touching as the scene in Harry Potter before Snape dies. When he gives Harry his precious memories about his mom. A heart breaking scene when Dumbledore asks Snape:"After all this time?" and he answered:"Always". This brings tears to your eyes.
Oh, I absolutely love and adore Alan Rickman. Only one other actor is of equal importance in my heart even though I love and appreciate so many! I cried so hard over Robin Williams but it is David Ogden Steirs. It's in their voices and their sweet faces that make me wish so hard that we hadn't lost them too soon. In fondest memory! This was a beautiful compilation. Thank you for this.
This edit is so beautifully done! I am so glad this appeared in my feed today! You make me want to watch the movie again! I love everything in this edit from the song you chose, which I like so much and is perfect for love stories, to the way you retold Brandon and Marianne's story by including scenes in which Willoughby was the original focus, changing that focus to Brandon. You are so talented! And, ah, Alan Rickman's Brandon stole my heart from the beginning. It's the kind of acting you forget there is an actor playing a character, he IS the character from the first second until the very end. That's how talented he was. So sad he had to leave us so soon... His portrayal of Colonel Brandon is unrivalled. I can't tell you how happy I was when I watched for the first time the scene where Marianne calls him by his name and thanks him after he rescued her, when she finally notices him (at long last!) and his face lights up... ! Oh the feelings! This scene and the one where he's reading are my favorite scenes. His voice was really special. Marianne's evolution was great to witness, from her annoying infatuation with Willoughby, acting foolishly, to finally realizing how wonderful Brandon is, falling in love with him, and being more mature and adult in her attitude. This wedding was one of the most satisfying ever, I was genuinely happy watching that ending scene (and the score is fantastic). We all know how great Alan Rickman was at playing grim, tormented characters, but I am glad that at least once he got to portray a caring, charming, loving man who got to marry the woman he loves. I think Alan Rickman being so talented is the reason why we find it difficult to watch him play sad scenes. Because we litteraly feel pain, and we hurt along with him as we watch him. We miss you Alan!
Your choice of song and the way you set the images to it are perfect! I was mesmerized inside ten seconds. Thanks a lot for the time and work you put into this video.
He is so honorable and filled with integrity in this film. The fact that she’s frivolous and stupid; can’t see the wonderful man in front of her drove me nuts! I was happy when it turned out that they were together
Harper, I've always thought this was Alan's best role. With all the tribute vids out there this 10 month old post is by far the best. I don't like cover music normally but A Thousand Years is perfect. He was always excellent, even as the wretched de Valera, but it's a great joy to see him tossing sterling in the air with Marianne in the carriage. Thanks for the video.
The very first thing that I saw Alan Rickman in was truly madly deeply and I was a fan ever since. that was my favorite movie of his and this was a very close runner-up. I’m so sad that he’s not with us anymore. Truly madly deeply hits differently now that I lost my own husband to cancer this year. It’s not easy to find that movie now, but I found a DVD online and treasure it.
What woman doesn't dream of a Colonel Brandon mixed with an Alan Rickman. A gentleman, low-key and completely devoted....yes, dream on....Wonderful actor...much missed.
Rickman's Brandon ranks right up there with all the fantastic Darcy actors. Sigh... that lovely shaggy sandy blond hair, boyish sweet smile, and the voice!!!! Swoon....
Those two did another movie together where she was the gardener at his French palace and it was great calm loving energy between them again. Those two were perfection on screen.
No one could have been as perfect for Brandon than Alan Rickman.
Couldn't agree more
I had thought of him only as a character actor before watching this movie and by the end I was totally in love with him 😍
@@MKR5210 Same - steadfast with a strong moral compass.
@Karen Rumney
That’s how I felt! Fell madly in love with him
@@MKR5210 Loved Alan Rickman - not just as Colonel Brandon ❤😢😢
Alan Rickman could have read the telephone book to me and I would have been enchanted. Such a terrible loss.
Yes!
Couldn't have said it better myself.😭

I read that some people thought that Alan was too old to play Brandon. I thought he was brilliant in this role!
in past times it was common for a young woman marry an older man. the old ones had more possession to worry for a woman.
He was perfection. As he was in all is roles, but this one he really makes it so clear with just his face exactly how much he wants her to love him. He is so handsome and restrained and your heart breaks for him.
Nobody could make a better Brandon.
Oh no, he was perfect!!!
He was always perfect in any role! Handsome and talented and forever miss Alan Rickman.
Loved that Austen wrote that Brandon eventually got his hearts desire in his love for younger Marianne, that his patience and true love finally won her over in seeing his character. And Alan Rickman was the perfect choice.
Love Alan Rickman in whatever role he played. His voice and body language were superb. Miss him.
After playing "bad guys" for so long, I loved the fact that he could be such a loving person in this movie.
Because Alan is a loving person❤
I can hardly believe that someone so vital and talented is no longer with us. Not fair! I will love him in this particularly forever!
Me too❤️
I AGREE MARGERY!!
I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM AFTER WATCHING THIS MOVIE & I STILL WATCH IT FROM TIME TO TIME!
I agree with you, so sad 😔
He was such a babe in this. RIP Alan.
@@alisonbaker9847 I agree..... The best go first.... 😞
When Alan is reading; his voice is so mesmerizing, more times than not, I’ll go back and watch that scene again.
His voice🥺❤️
If you have a look at Alan Rickman in the video with Texas called In Demand whoa how gorgeous 😍
Alan here is so lovely. For me is a joy that Brandon get happy. I cant bear his unhappiness, not even in a movie
My too😭😭
Exactly my feelings

Alan was my favorite character in this movie. Who could not fall in love with Brandon. Handsome, sexy, kind and decent. ❤️
I love that he’s portrayed as loving, beautiful and sensitive in this film. A gift!
Oh my God, I will always miss this voice. Rest in peace, Great Actor.
Brandon is my favorite guy in this movie. To me he is all heart, and caring…
Yes exactly. It's in his voice, the way he looks at her. I have loved this character for years because of Alan.

I love Truly, Madly, Deeply too. It's a gem.
I miss Alan Rickman. He could play so many different roles. He gave so much to the viewers.
And this film made me start reading Jane Austen.
I wish we had more of Alan in roles that were romantic or heroic...he absolutely shines here.
Oh how I miss Alan Rickman. I had the pleasure of meeting him once. Sweet, talented man.
Great, very great actor, what voice!!!! Unforgettable..... ❤️
Will always miss Alan Rickman. Excellent actor.
He was so gorgeous.. his face, his smile, his voice...
I have loved Alan Rickman since the first time I saw Sense and Sensibility.

He was such a cool villain in Robin Hood 😍

He played the cello for real in that movie. Learned it just for that role . . .
My lovely Alan I will love you for a thousand years and more than that 💔
One of the most beautiful edits of Sense and Sensibility, thanks for posting 😊
Thank You for watching ❤️
Yes yes ❤️❤️❤️💫✨
But this edit isn’t true to the movie. It implies that she loved Brandon all along, and she did not.
