Thank you - I love my Panasonic G7 outdoors but have been struggling with making it work well indoors in my basement office with low light. Hopefully by using some of your settings ideas plus some better lighting, I can solve this problem.
Hi ! Great to talk about the G7 in 2020! 👌 I have been using it for two years and overall it is a very good camera. I've used it with the 14-42 kit for years, I finally invested in an 18-35mm 1.8 and a 70-200mm f4 + Viltrox, day and night! But recently I started to really feel its limits, the 1080p 60p is unusable because of its very low bitrate and the image decomposes next to the 4K 100mbps, the GH4 does much better (200Mbps in FHD 60). The HDMI output can't send signal to an HDMI monitor during recording, unlike its big brother the G80, and this is a big weakness when you need a larger screen. He does not have an IBIS either, it can bother some, panasonic's IBIS is really nice. And even stabilized on Ronin S, it's a luxury when you no longer have optical IS. Also clips can be color corrected and graded easely but after using the 10bits of GH5 or the 12bits of the BMPCCs, i had higher expectations. So finally I would recommend more to go on a used G80 or GH4. Finaly the G7 still is a really performing camera and and despite its faults I love it. Do not hesitate to take a look on my channel to see what I got from it 😉 Thanks for the video !
No lies told here and yes i recently noticed that you cannot use an external monitor with that camera!! And to be honest, image app is not a good alternative

Great tutorial, Nate. I have four of these cameras and I've been using them for my videos for a couple years. You are 100% right about the marginally quality of the autofocus feature. However for the price, this is a great camera and it can be a real workhorse if you pay attention to the details.
Thank you for this video its been a great help even in 2022! in the hope you or anyone else my see this I am having problems encoding my clips in Filmora 11. Seems that if I shoot on my iPhone 12 pro encoding 30 minutes can take my laptop around 1 hour max. same clips using the G7 clips its hours and hours! now my Laptop is not the best but always been good enough but I feel there is something in the codec that slows the encoding down significantly. Did you also have issues with this or have any advise. thank you.
Awesome! Thanks for the kind words! Hmmm that sounds like a mix between computer hardware or perhaps the software isn't quite optimized for the G7 4K files. You can adjust the video quality settings, by shooting in a lower bitrate or a lower resolution if thats helps. It's not ideal, but it could help with your encoding issue. You could also try editing with DaVinci Resolve (free version) and see if that works better for you. Hope this was helpful!

Hey man I have a problem with my G7, whenever I put it on manual mode the screen turns black and white, and yet I am not in black white mode, after I take a photo it comes in color, but the preview is in black and white. Can you help me.
hey maybe u can help me understand this...when I go into settings, the exposure mode is not highlighted so I can't click on it, also in photo style the cinematic option is not available..idk why
I would just use the auto mode for video. you don't have time to change lenses and go into your settings when your doing run&gun like most video situations are. youl find that out quick. the only thing is you just have to give it a second or 2 to adjust it self after your set and recording. you can edit that piece out.
Hii, the little thingy where you look through with your eye is not working. How do I turn this on? I can only use it in one specific filming mode. I have to use the touchscreen as a view for all the other modes. How can I change that? Love your vids btw!
Hey! There should be a button on the side of the viewfinder you can press. Keep in mind, there are 3 modes. On, Off, and one where it will automatically turn on when you put it up to your eye.
This is awesome. I’m wondering why mic level is 0db? Is this dependent on the mic one chooses to use? I use rode vic mic pro. Some people suggest to have camera mic level on -6db.... Or with external mic, still best on 0db?
Hey! 0db works well with my Røde Video Micro. The Pro has a +20db option which is superior to the cameras internal gain. If you left it at 0db, Naturally it would be too loud, so you would compensate by lowering the camera’s internal preamp. I would experiment with it based on how far you are away from the mic. The goal is you don’t want it too high or it’ll distort nor too low you can’t hear yourself. Hope this helps!
@@NatesFilmTutorials @Nate's Film Tutorials Hi Nate! Thanks so much for replying. Excuse my ignorance - but what is and how do I adjust the camera's internal preamp? Is that the Mic Adjust Levels? What do you think the best overall lens are for recording video? I am mainly doing interviews but also want to look into hand-held dramatic b-roll. Googling around it seems like the best options are the kit lens lol. Reddit loves the 25mm but they are not stabilized.
Hmm... the 25mm f/1.7 is a fabulous lens! For interviews the 50mm focal length is your best friend. However personally I would look at the gear you could see yourself using in 5 years if you plan on doing video for the long run. Will you be switching cameras? Most likely. That why I chose to invest in Sigma full frame art lenses for canon EF, so I can adapt it to nearly any camera. This might be a good topic for a video.
@@NatesFilmTutorials Thanks for the reply man! I own two G7s and some of the finer lens are almost the same price as the camera. I'd watch that video if you make it! I have no idea what to look for in a camera that will have a 5 year shelf life

Davecation TV That’s also true, lenses can be more expensive. I would consider looking at a set of used Rokinon lenses. They’re pretty affordable and quite decent for most scenarios, of course no autofocus, but they provide a nice image
I’m using this in 2024 and I have a Sony 50mm. It brought up the error that you said about not being a lens and I changed the setting but the camera with the lens is blurry and won’t focus! Is there anything I’m doing wrong?
Nothing happens when I spin either of those dials at the top. Just got the camera today from Best Buy. Any idea why? I’m assuming it’s a setting I have turned on or off
Is there a way to save appropriate shutter speed for both 25 and 50fps (EU)? Mine just doesn't seem to keep this so changing from normal to slowmo requires manual shutter adjustment as well. Is this standard or am I missing something? Cheers
Hii i shoot some footage on my panasonic g7. How do I get the 4k quality shots uploaded to my computer? I know that I need special software for that. I have searched the whole internet but I can't find any tutorials on how to transfer the shots in 4k onto my macbook for editing. Can you make a video on that?
hey thanks for those tips, i have to ask, how do you deal with the no body stabilization, i have one and i use a steadicam but its so dificult to get a non shake image.
Hey Meje! Great question! I use a combination of tricks to get smooth handheld video. 1. Use a stabilized lens if you can 2. If your shooting Broll, 60fps can help smooth out the shakes when you slow it down in post. 3. Add a warp stabilizer in post. 4. Try to film steady shots, get more points of contact keep it stable. 5 You can also add weight to your setup which helps significantly. If you are getting shaky footage with your steadicam, my thought would be thats its improperly balanced. They can be tricky tools, so the more practice you have with them the better the results
Thanks, another question, when im recording the the info on the screen goes away at 15-30s , the grid, the balance meter, all of them goes away. You know why this happend and how can I fixed?

Dear, how is it for food and cooking videos?
I’m using this in 2024 and I have a Sony 50mm. It brought up the error that you said about not being a lens and I changed the setting but the camera with the lens is blurry and won’t focus! Is there anything I’m doing wrong?
What model lens are you using? Sony lenses don’t work on micro four thirds cameras
I have a mount for it by viltrox
Much needed thank you
Nothing happens when I spin either of those dials at the top. Just got the camera today from Best Buy. Any idea why? I’m assuming it’s a setting I have turned on or off
Does it have extra crop in 4k video ? and does it shoot video in 16:9 ration ?
There is a slight crop in 4K. Shoots 16:9
@@NatesFilmTutorials Ok thank you so much sir.
You are welcome!
Is there a way to save appropriate shutter speed for both 25 and 50fps (EU)? Mine just doesn't seem to keep this so changing from normal to slowmo requires manual shutter adjustment as well. Is this standard or am I missing something? Cheers
Does this camera have zoom...and can u tell me how much zoom it have by default..
how'd you get the white focus Frame to appear on your mirror screen?
super helpful! thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
How do I focus when Im vlogging in front of a green screen?
Great job, thank you.
Thanks!
🤔🤔🤔
After I followed some of your steps I’m not able to change the aperture anymore on my camera it isn’t noticeable now
I'm sorry to hear that! Have you tried resetting your camera to see if that helps with the aperture control?
How about a video on bracketing?
You are awsome!

hey thanks for those tips, i have to ask, how do you deal with the no body stabilization, i have one and i use a steadicam but its so dificult to get a non shake image.
