If I was asked for one song that takes me back to being a apprentice mechanic in a garage with 14 HGV bays it's this one and everyone singing and joining in every time it came on Radio 1. Top song, top band, thank you for the memory
The Guy In The Purple Suit (Doug) He Is My Uncle! I Sing With His New Band 'Zen House' Sometimes! "..We Are The Mods, We Are The Mods, We Are, We Are, We Are The Mods!"
Lucky enough to have known Jez. I was a mod and he taught me how to play guitar and really encouraged me to write and, helped me record ( embarrassingly I didn't know who he was when I met him ) . He had a real passion and talent with music, he had genuine soul. Just a naturally nice guy. Appreciated you :) x
Julian Franklin that is amazing, i know nobody well apart from Pete Bud (my godfather ) look him up!!!! I love this song yes i know its a cover-but im still amazed that how people dont know what its about. I'll bet nowone in that totp group of guests had a clue. Great song performed brilliantly. Nice one.
I was only nine or ten when this came out. Loved it then and still do. So glad to have found it here, thankyou for the nostalgia and taking me back to a time when we felt free 🙏🏻
Jez Bird appeared in the Identity Parade on _Never Mind the Buzzcocks_ in 2005. Even after being reminded by Mark Lamarr that they met Jez through a mutual friend, Rich Hall still refused to pick him!
Why listen to the music, watch the vid if you are intent on leaving crap comments? This was an awesome song when it was in the charts and forms part of my apprentiship days as a mechanic! Awesome, hank you Jez
LoveIt. Got this on a vinyl 45 & still DJ with it. I am 60 soon & love the music I grew up through. The Title made me think, with recent EEC ruling SOON won't be able to claim this herb (or any other) can affect humans beneficially ...... think on it!
Can anyone back me up here? this group did a version of Jefferson Airplanes,"Dont you want sombody to love" round about 80-81, you tube dont have it , i know im not dreaming it!!
They reformed and are supporting secret affair at concorde2 in brighton nov 23rd 2012. Think Jez Bird passed away a couple of years ago but im gonna go and support them
@bladesmark1 Because I was a mod in 1980 and me and anyone who took the mod scene seriously thought these guys were a bunch of muppets. What were you doing in 1980?
@lurvebutter Well sunshine i myself since 1978 have been into Ska but love the mod scene (same difference) and the Lambrettas were a decent band in my eyes & many of my mates eyes too who were Mods,i suppose its to everyone's fancy really.
I lost a bet when I was 13 that this was done by the Piranhas. Ten rand, which was a frikkin fortune to me in 1983, and shows how convinced I was that I was right!
Great song but surely this lot just heard Poison Ivy by the Coasters & performed it in the 2 tone style which looking at it now is not as good as the original.... but if they came up with anything decent themselves then apologies in advance.
When we were mods.
Can still be.

Jeez, the memories this brings back, life was good back then. At 61 years of age now,I wonder where the years have gone. Anyway, great f****** song💪.
Time flies when you're having fun, I think I was about 14 when this was released, great music, unlike the majority of music nowadays

No, you're crazy. I like you but you're crazy man.
I was only nine or ten when this came out. Loved it then and still do. So glad to have found it here, thankyou for the nostalgia and taking me back to a time when we felt free 🙏🏻
I was 10 when this came out, as you say good times sadly gone.
This song is just as enjoyable, as the original version, which I am old enough to remember, which was done by the Paramounts.
i was fortunate enough to see them gig last friday at a pub in sussex...and got to sing with them totally awesome
Thanks lads for making this record the mod scene doesn’t get many songs for them

Jez Bird appeared in the Identity Parade on _Never Mind the Buzzcocks_ in 2005. Even after being reminded by Mark Lamarr that they met Jez through a mutual friend, Rich Hall still refused to pick him!
I saw them perform this at the Crystal Palace Hotel (CPH) in January 1980. Great times!
Sounds great, I've really found myself getting into mod revival lately :D
Kayothic SKA🕶🏁🎷🎺🎹🥁🎤🎸
I've got it too, a 1980 Rocket Record Company pressing, XPRES 25. Still in perfect condition.
Why listen to the music, watch the vid if you are intent on leaving crap comments? This was an awesome song when it was in the charts and forms part of my apprentiship days as a mechanic! Awesome, hank you Jez
Love this song. The version I heard was by 'The Lambrettas' back in 1980. A wonderful ska infused cover version.
Loved this to bits when it came it out. Written by Leiber & Stoller who wrote a lot of Elvis Presley's hits. Classic track!
First single I ever bought. Classic!
2024 . Was in junior school when this was realeased. So many feel good memories.
LoveIt. Got this on a vinyl 45 & still DJ with it. I am 60 soon & love the music I grew up through.

On Top of the Pops 1980 tonight on BBC4. Very cool indeed. Slightly prefer the appearance where they put the drummer at the front.

Can anyone back me up here? this group did a version of Jefferson Airplanes,"Dont you want sombody to love" round about 80-81, you tube dont have it , i know im not dreaming it!!
The last single the band put out, in 1982. You weren't dreaming!

Fabulous pop ska combination
Its a shame that not of mod bands of that time played ska music. Since that was their sound track in the sixties.

They reformed and are supporting secret affair at concorde2 in brighton nov 23rd 2012. Think Jez Bird passed away a couple of years ago but im gonna go and support them
Someone should set up a free VD advice line and when connected it just plays this song over and over again.
Mmm ..Thankyou for this wonderful insight, your'e the boy.
An amazing version of a great 60's song. But i cannot remember who sang the original?
Colum Rogers it was the coasters I think
The Coasters and it's class
they are playing ,sound bar ,birmingham ,2nd january 2010 see you there!!
@bladesmark1 Because I was a mod in 1980 and me and anyone who took the mod scene seriously thought these guys were a bunch of muppets. What were you doing in 1980?

Still love the look!
I'm still itching now !!!!
fck!! i got this on 45 vinyl ca 1980 but never saw them in any shape or form! yep it's Kid Jensen btw
A much better, more fun version than the original!
Eric George the original is genius. This is mediocre
@@acornco-opsupport6897 I completely disagree.
not a very good video but a rare one to see none the less. love the song too. thanks jasonparka!
I realise that they preserved the tempo of the original Coasters hit but I wish they'd speeded this up just a touch
never knew the coasters sang the original but this version is so school disco.
The paramount
As fresh as still today...X :)
one of the first singles I bought
RACK rackem rack ..... "you can look but you better not touuuuuuuuuuuch" hahah rackbar

@lurvebutter Well sunshine i myself since 1978 have been into Ska but love the mod scene (same difference) and the Lambrettas were a decent band in my eyes & many of my mates eyes too who were Mods,i suppose its to everyone's fancy really.

August 2008 -- R.I.P Jez, my old mate from the Lambs.....
The Lambrettas are playing the 12 Bar in Swindon - March 6th 2010
And the last song you recorded that entered the charts was? Thought so...just another little troll....as good as the original in my opinion.
Just heard the news about Jez this week-what a shame....top bloke too.
Great memories Jez. RIP
Fantastic pop music
Brilliant
Lambrettas + The Amnesiacs (my band!) in Runcorn, 4th Sept.
Poison ivy classic song from the seventies good stuff
Great song but surely this lot just heard Poison Ivy by the Coasters & performed it in the 2 tone style which looking at it now is not as good as the original.... but if they came up with anything decent themselves then apologies in advance.
