- Praise is heaped on the Clio 182, but with a few missing parts and a number of issues to tackle, did I pay too much?

Oh and don't worry about the track or not track usage. My 222k daily one I also use on track, in fact I've got Mallory Park to book for May. These cars if looked after can handle trackdays no problem
222k is mega, that's the highest I've heard of, great innings!
Excellent review. You deserve more views . Thanks!
Thank you, appreciate it!
I saw your 182 up for sale last month around the same time I bought mine. They're a great combination in racing blue with turini's but I went with a well sorted black gold, thus avoiding the colour tax. I can also recommend a Snappy retrim which mine had last year.
I hope your fettling goes well and you get to enjoy the car in the coming months.
Colour tax is the right way to view it! I didn’t see a liquid yellow but they fetch an even higher fee by all accounts. Being sorted is the top priority so sounds like you made a good choice 👌🏻
Nice honest review dude appreciate it! I also bought a 182 3 weeks ago (FF, BG, standard wheels though), my second. Had the same debates about price.. I'm taking it into Mark Fish Motorsport in Essex who looked after my previous 182. He built a lot of racing 182s and still looks after Clio V6's, so knows them like the back of his hand. Last time he gave me a 2 page report on the status of every mechanical component which was great, but a little nervous about doing that again! Will see what comes up..
Wow, that sounds like a very comprehensive report! Good luck, hopefully it's a short list this time, but at least you know it's in safe hands if anything needs doing.
Excellent video, especially on price! The 182 has been a dream of mine ever since I had a 1.2 when I first passed my test. I bought the 182 off my mechanic/personal friend for £2000, I’m the 17th owner and it’s had all the mods under the sun; fully polybushed front end, new cams, race clutch, race exhaust, remap and the like. Saying that it was a shakedown/test car for an owner 3/4 people before me. Saying that it’s been sat on my drive since 2019 with no spark plugs so I’ll definitely have fun rebuilding it! Might be time for a R26 engine swap! 😉
That engine swap would be a really exciting project!
You mentioned steering wheel melting. Rather than retriming the wheel, I bought a new set of thumb grips from Ebay for under £10 and they are fine.
Thanks for the tip, that might be the short-term budget solution I’m looking for!
Cost me £6 for mine, 5 min job. Peel off, bit of superglue 👍🏼
Hi I enjoyed that and have subscribed so keep them coming! I bought a brand new 182 cup in the same colour in 2005, in 3 years I did 12000 miles and was my pride and joy! I bought it just before I started dating my now wife and only sold it as one of her friends begged to buy it off me (it was a second car and I was big into bikes too) anyway I've been looking lately to get another as I remember this car being the most cheap natural fun I'd had on 4 wheels and by a stroke of luck I found my old car... Its looking a little sorry for itself and now has 140000 miles under its belt! I could go out and buy a low milage clean car but that wouldn't mean anything to me.... So the deals done and it will be back with me next week ready for a full strip down and refresh... I might even try and do a vid myself, anyway any hints or tips would be appreciated so keep the vids coming 👍
What a great story! Wonderful to have found your old car, very fortunate timing. I hope it lives up to your memories and I’m sure it will keep you entertained.
I'll keep you updated mate, your not that far from me although I've got all the glorious roads of North Wales on my doorstep
U need to make it up 2 her now. Lol.
Looks like a lovely 182! I’ve just paid 4200 for a Clio 172 cup but it’s in lovely condition. Enjoy mate
A quality, well looked after car is likely to offer better value in the long run. What colour did you go for?
@@BritishRacingGreens it’s the mondial blue 👍🏼
Very nice 👌🏻
@@richardgoodman6071 This car was bought from me. Looked good next to your Cup.
@@hsustyle1 hahaha I wondered if it was your Clio 182 you’d sold! This Clio world is very small 😂
I just replaced the steering wheel on my 182. But with an omp 330mm gp Instead. Huge improvement really sharpens up rack feel and overall feel
I’m sure that’s the one JW Meale has added to his Clio, it does look fantastic. My only concern is losing the airbag, I clearly don’t trust myself (or others!) enough.
Nice video, I actually almost bought this exact car! The guy selling sold me there had been no track action despite the stripped interior, bucket seat and popular trackday tires :D He aslo told me the EML was on intermittently due to the sports cat so fingers crossed there's nothing else causing it. I ended up settling for an 80k mile example in the slightly less exciting silver, but I've had zero issues with it so far so I'm hoping I've bought wisely haha
Sounds like we came to the same conclusion on track usage, so you probably made the more sensible choice! I’ve bought a cheap OBD2 scanner so will post a vid soon showing what error codes it throws up 😬
@@BritishRacingGreens the car hasn't had track action. The previous owner never actually got round to it and the buckets seats and harnesses where fitted very recently. He ended up pxing this 182 for a very low mileage 172 Cup.
The eml light is due to the sports cat /lambda sensor.
Hope you're enjoying the car and thanks for the positive review.
It’s been good fun, shame that lockdown has limited usage!
front splitter is from a skoda fabia. but that's ok as the original one snaps very easy and costs a fortune!
Thanks, someone else mentioned that it was from another car but didn’t specify, good to know!
If you’re going OEM then bin the Cooksports and put the cup springs back on, they drive fantastic and the ride is so much better.
That hadn’t even occurred to me, but it’s a great idea 👍🏻
Just bought Exhaust for mine, rs192 meant to be one of the quietest about, only little bit louder than the original.
Thanks for the tip Kyle, I’ll take a look 👍🏻
Snappy does the best steering wheel retrims, check out the thread on clio sport.net
Thanks! I’ve read some good feedback on Snappy too, may well be the route I go down.
Thumbs up for Andrew ‘Snappy’ Mayer 👍
He did mine several years ago, still looks mint! Well worth it.
@@BritishRacingGreens another vote for Andy snappys work here, did my wheel 7 years and over 100k miles ago and although worn in still lovely
Get your steering wheel refurbed by Snappy off the owners group on facebook. Absolutely mint!
I keep hearing great things, Snappy has a big fan base!
i own a 182 and when i bought mine i kept having issues with the lambda sensor but fixed and i havent seen an engine light since
That’s a relief! Hopefully mine will be that simple to fix too.
It's a common fault. Mine use to come on simply if I didn't drive my 182 for a couple of weeks.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one! I ordered a diagnostic scanner this week so will take a look at codes soon 🤞🏻
I brought mine yesterday 65k mileage for 3750
That’s a good price, should have gone up since then.
A nice 182 in France is between 10 and 15 000 euros. A ragnotti, 20 000
Wow, thought they might be cheaper in France! 💰💰💰
@@BritishRacingGreens already a classic
Howit. Nice man i bought a 182 two months back. Dont think it came here to South Africa in racing blue?
Love that you’ve bought a 182 in SA, don’t imagine there are many out there?
Sounds like you overpaid by quite a bit for your car mate. I assume this car came from OEM Plus ( absolutely ridiculous name as the cars they sell are anything but OEM Plus ) Will be interested to see what other issues you find as time goes. Good luck.
Thanks, hopefully smooth sailing!
I love the video but about the exhaust, you really shouldn't of bought a Clio 182 Cup if you was going for something that is quite quiet.
😂 it’s a fair point. To be honest, I’m mostly used to it now. The droning noise on the motorway I could certainly live without though.
@@BritishRacingGreens Yeah I understand that. Tbf, I avoid motorways and if I do just cruise in 5th Gear the whole way and it isn't that bad
Great video, I’ve got the exact same car!
Thanks, I imagine you’re familiar with a lot of the issues I mentioned!
I’m now selling my racing blue 182 cup for £1800 no wonder he ripped my arm off.
😂 sounds like a bargain to me!
Think its 72k or 5 years
So it could be due soon
Good point, I better double check when it was done! I’m currently stranded in Manchester all my docs are at home in London.
@@BritishRacingGreens good channel mate.
Whats the plan with it? Tracking it or mint roady?
@@alexrenault3620 Thanks, appreciate it! It'll never be a mint showcar because I want to enjoy driving it more than cleaning it, but I'd like to keep it as close to standard as possible rather than going for the stripped out track-car. They do look like great fun too though.
Buy a cheap OBD reader it comes in handy
Should be arriving next week 😉
Just used it and to great effect, at £12 it’s a must have in the toolbox!
That isn’t the cup splitter.
Interesting! I'm new to the world of the 182, how can you tell it’s not the cup splitter? Can you tell what it's off?
@@BritishRacingGreens it's a very common mod to replace the hugely expensive and usually broken cup item with a skoda fabia one from same era. And that's what yours is. Very common fix as oem splitters are 300 quid plus
