from what i've seen on youtube , everyone who drove this car ended up with a huge smile on their face . in the end stats don't matter , the feeling is the most important and this little clio is the living proof.
Sold my Nissan 350z to clear some bills and bought a real nice 172 for a grand.. love it and actually not missing my Z... And I LOVED my Z. So yeah it's a really likeable car. Great on fuel for the fun too!
I love these things, sounds amazing as well. Interior is shite but who cares.
hooligrinn car level 1000. had 172 for 13 years from new, unbreakable except odometer which stopped at 214635kms and was driven daily for about 4 years after that. sold car to Renault mastertech. car has changed few hands after that, car is still seen in the neighborhood. maybe now over 350,000 kms.
That power to weight is what gets you about the Renault sports ;) doesn't need to be 400bhp to make you poo yourself hahahaha

It should feel planted in the bends, if the rear feels unstable then the rear shocks are leaking. Very common but cheap and easy

Great cars but you have to approach them from the perspective that it was made for - cheap performance. The interior was conceived nearly 2 decades ago, but even at the time it was noted as being cheap (much the same as any iterations of the Evo)
I’ve had 4 of them and currently have the mk4 trophy, as a raw performance package, there really is no other car like it. You can get working examples for sub 1k very easily too.
I drive a 1.2L with no abs or airbags. Its still fun tho, greetings from Arg!
GTi can be faster and with more interior quality, but none of them is half as a fun as this clio, fun at a reasonable price, worth spending in the maintenance because it draws that big smile in your face.
You should do an MG ZR 160 (if you can even one with a turbo swap) or a ZS 180, fantastic and under-rated cars.

I drove mine 60miles to and from work every day for a year and abused it at weekends! Great bit of fun! Just need to be maintained!
You should drive an Alfa Romeo 147 GTA, they are monsters and sound incredible with that busso V6!

If you get the full fat version, you get a softer dash, half alcantara seats and door cards, climate control, xenons, rain sensing, auto lights and ESP as standard.
Also there are turbo conversions out there that can get 300bhp+so literally 300bhp per tonne. For pure fun factor they are just mega, you just find an excuse to drive these, the French certain do different than your typical VAG cars.
Turbo conversion which is high boost to achieve 300bhp and more it’ll only have to be forged engine, upgraded injectors, upgraded clutch, factory gearbox can handle it but depends how long for! Low boost turbo conversion is 230-240bhp, medium boost is roughly 260bhp with upgraded pistons, 300+bhp forged engine etc as i said

One of the reasons that they are more fun than any German car ever made is because of the lightweight build. You can't have everything.

Gotts the only problem being is that the French cannot build a decent car, the styling is awful as is the interior and build quality overall

@@pheasantpluckersson2138 you can't know much about cars. The French have built some brilliant cars over the years. How they are to drive is more important than how plush the interiors are in my opinion.
Clio is good cheap fun and mods are widely available, good choice. If you flock the dash looks much better
I really miss my 182. It was so rapid in the corners it was a joke
you should do the Toyota Celica next, I've got the VVTI which is naturally aspirated but it sounds so nice and pure with a good exhaust setup on it and it's still fast with a 8.5s 0-60, but try getting the VVTLI in your videos as that one's got the toyota vtec equivalent

@@tracktimevideos5164 Lol when you're 20 in the UK good luck getting a car with affordable insurance...could of got a type r if I wanted but 1. they were usually rusty and 2. not my style, and the VVTLI is still a bit too expensive at this stage so 8.5 is fine, I'm talking 60mph too not km
You were frequently hitting the rev limiter on gear changes. Were you baulking the changes or was there a clutch problem? Good review.
Try Ford Fiesta ST mk6... lacks power but handling is amazing!

Much better to drive than an ep3. Had standard and modded versions of both. The clio has more low end pull but the ep3s top end is great but too short. The ep3 is let down by the steering and personally they are too big to feel chuckable on the road
Considered going for one of these but the interior just lets it down so much. Much prefer my 206 GTI 180
If you get one the isn't a cup the interior is a lot nicer

Do a comparison video to a phase one 172. Different experience again. More raw
Phase 1s are just better all round imo. My phase 1 was quicker more raw but also somehow more solid and the interior didn't fall apart like my 182
Cams don't equal 197whp on a dyno. Nowhere near.
Cams, full exhaust system with decat or sports cat downpipe with intake/ induction kit it’ll see maybe just over 180bhp with the custom map it’ll can be 190bhp just depends on the tuner and modifications with the correct octane
Cool video but to be honest the mk4 seems more well made the clio sounds good and seems fun but it lacks the golfieness that the mk4 offers I mean u can spead feel safe and be comfortable and I feel like that's what your special hot hatch offers
It's called vvt or on some cars vvt-i which is vtec with the name and most cars have then :) even my grandparents kia Picanto 1.2 lol
Toyota is vvtL-i Lift. Only real VTEC type of other engine out there. vvtL-i was Toyota idea....honda copied the idea of cam lift.

@@danielmoukli4590 1980 a car company call Alfa Romeo came up with vvt or VTEC as honda guys now it and put it into a production car. It's putting it into a production car that seals the deal. Toyota was the first to come up with the idea, then the ideas was sheared between honda Toyota and nissan. Just need to read more. Alfa got lucky and was the first production car released, b16 came in 1983
Had one for a few years. I did like it, but now ive sold it i realise how much i enjoyed it. Genuinely miss it. Got the 197 now and really dont rate it

seems tad bit slow for 197bhp. took JUST UNDER 8 seconds to get to 60. I expect it to be closer to 6 seconds.

I bought this exact car in September 2019, and it lasted 5 days before the cambelt failed 🤣😅
What usually happens is the aux belt snaps then wraps around the crank pulley taking the cambelt out lol
Drove my mates, didn’t like the interior, pedal position, steering wheel. Didn’t hoon it. But didn’t like it.

H1ghgradeUK it was quick, but didn’t like the driving position, obviously its all changeable with new wheel and buckets, for a cheap track car/daily it didn’t do it got me. Rather a 197.

@@lostgps3005 yes an but a 1.8 vvtli with 90 ISH k on the clock for 800 is a bargain tbh. I'm not selling it, I just know a steal, not many about now. Very few with that milage about now. Paintwork let's it down but fuck the paint.
what year is it though? the pre facelift ones (before 04) had an engine issue that after about 100K the pistons would actually start to deform and go slightly oval shaped... so yeah just something to put out there for people who may not know. and btw i do want a t sport myself xD

I bought a 172 cup brand new for £10500. Not sure where you got 18k from. Iirc even a trophy was only £15k. Bought another 172 cup 2 years ago as a toy as I loved my old one. Fantastic bargains

@@scottchampion3511 Golfs and Polos are incredibly boring in my opinion. Fiesta STs are fun but also weigh 200kgs more. It's the price you pay for lightweight build and a raw visceral experience. I wouldn't want a Clio as a daily driver and a Golf would be far nicer 90% of the time but I wouldn't want a Golf as a track car which is where a clio would be far better. Depends what you are using the car for. A clio 182 can be had for £1500, that would get you a Golf that is totally knackered and ready for the scrap yard.

Not the most reliable but still more reliable than many German cars. Japanese cars tend to be the most reliable.

I owned a gordoni blue 182 FF for a few months and hated it. They do like to rev alot but they dont really go anywhere in a hurry. Was boring to drive for me. One of the most over hyped cars ever in my opinion. Nice to look at tho especially in this gordoni blue and liquid yellow.

Sell the TT when your ready and big turbo the golf. Gt28 some rod's, exhaust/mani and a tune.
Gt28 is to keep the cost down but still left with 350 to the wheel. Need an LSD as well.

if you're paying 4 grand for a cup in any colour it best have done about 4 miles
The 182 cup is not worth much but the 172 cups are, they easily fetch 4k in good condition. Trophys are the top of the ladder though

Depends on how do you define better to drive.
Clio takes the cornering, handling and acceleration, because it's lightweight 2.0 on a cup suspension.
It also takes the smiles, cos once you hear it scream over 5k with a KTR intake, you'll get it.
If you want your car to be more quiet, with a bit lower gas mileage, there are more boring cars out there to drive around.
