The lack of a quick save option was the biggest dealbreaker for why I didn't get the Dark Forces remaster, despite the cutscenes and enhanced sprites looking great. That was always my biggest gripe with the base game and The Force Engine adding that feature was a godsend. Everything else was something I also liked, like resolution scaling, but the quicksave feature was paramount.
I wonder if it's possible to just extract the enhanced sprites and cutscenes and integrate them into the Force Engine. If so, then that would genuinely make the Remaster pointless outside of convenience.

@@gameragodzilla 100 percent agree with you on that. Some of those levels are not forgiving and to have that save feature in the force engine was great.
I thought about trying to extract the remaster's textures but couldn't figure it out. I'd heard that the maker of force engine was working on his own texture pack to be used as a mod in the game. Fingers crossed we see it soon.

@@BenKii If the maker does create them, then the Force Engine will be the definitive way to play. I do still respect Nightdive, but adding this feature puts the Force Engine over for me.
Save states are also why I still prefer playing Bounty Hunter via Dolphin emulator rather than the Aspyr remaster on PC. A lot of the annoying sections are less annoying with quicksaves.

I started following the Force Engine development in 2020. it's worth mentioning that eventually it's going to support a map editor allowing people to make custom content similar to Doom. It's also worth mentioning that the guy making The Force Engine said in his official forums that Nightdive personally contacted him before they announced the remaster and established some kind of mutual exchange of knowledge. The remaster is indeed overpriced but I think everyone knows that it and the Doom/Quake remasters are more aimed at casual consumers, obviously source ports are the way to go if you're competent with computers. It's just neat that Nightdive not only acknowledged the Force Engine but they offered the developer a seat at their table.

That was nice of Nightdive to offer that to the Force Engine guys. Can't say many other companies would've done the same.

Just started playing the force engine mod yesterday and the only Edge the official remaster has over it is the new cutscenes but the guy is planning on adding them in later so after that, there won't be any real reason to get the remaster

I still can't believe what they did with Remaster, what a lazy cash grab was that...

Yeahh, not really hyped for all these Remasters, etc. Looks like ppl don't launch proper new games anymore, they just milk every penny possible on re-releases and remasters, remakes WTH? On top of that they release at a premium. Are ppl mad?

Yeah, definitely overpriced and lazy. I didn't know about The Force Engine, I'll have to replay the game with that instead! Amazing, thanks.
