    Somebody once said "we can't control the winds but we can adjust our sails" which basically means we can't change what happened, but we can change our reaction to it. Outside stuff doesn't make us happy or mad, *we* make *ourselves* happy and mad. *We* give situations labels. You might not be the wealthiest dude alive, but that fact has no connotation until you give it one. You can say "dang it i wish i was rich" and give that fact a negative connotation. Or you can say "well at least i get by with the money i have" and give that same fact, a better connotation. It's all in our minds. And it takes time, energy and control to change the connotations we give to facts in our lives.

    Well the two main arguments are:
    1.Get self control by following through on disciplinary tasks; in other words, get self control by having self control.
    (This is very circular but I get it)
    2. Unplug (This is great advice, but it does seem strange to recommend an Email service after it. )

    • @jillweaver1040
      @jillweaver1040 5 лет назад +3

      It's not circular at all.... it is just like any thing else. You develop a skill through practice of that skill.

    To Build Self-Control: @ 16:50
    1. Discipline your intentions and take action == trains your Self-Control.
    a. If you have intentions to brush teeth twice a day -- do that
    b. If you have intentions to work out -- do that
    c. If you have intentions to journal -- do that
    2. Disconnect from media == break the bad habit of Self-Control sapping media.

    Leo, I'm not sure how to say this but....you've planted a lot of healthy seeds of reality that sprout the truth. I do my best to remain unbiased and objective (like the scientist with the chimps...lol) and it helps keep me grounded. I am currently struggling in certain areas of my life on a personal level and your videos aren't magic pills or quick overnight remedies. ..they are more (to me at least) food for thought. I listen to these daily, sometimes 2-3 in a row or I'll just throw on a play list as I clean the house, or get ready for work etc. I find that as I reprogram my subconscious and have your insight constantly playing in the background I naturally pick up on the BIG picture. So thank you for the paradigm shift assistance. I tell my buddies about self actualization and basically raising your conscious level and the chain reaction of events recently have been superior. I no longer want to live small, as of today I choose to Live BIG!

    I am currently in the battle of the mind with the internal opposing forces. My mind has been used to giving into impulses for so long that the neural networks that receive reward are STRONG. I receive the reward through the opioid receptor. I can't see the light yet because it seems so hard to grasp. Discipline is key. This video has inspired me to begin to execute self-control. When I have an impulse now I do a breathing meditation or Mantra which helps . Thank you Leo.

    Don't be surprised if the process of shifting from an outer world focus to an inner world focus makes you angry at times. I have made pretty good progress in the past couple months by reading "Mindfulness: an Eight Week Plan for Finding Peace..." and by constantly reminding myself through RUclips videos like these and my therapist. My biggest hurdle has been pushing through my tendency to automatically repeat negative thoughts and feelings and get stuck in self-pity - which is understandable given my childhood environment, but not helpful as an independent adult.
    And I must say, I have very few negative thoughts since I started practicing and I can almost feel the program booting up for unhappiness so as long as I can not get angry at myself for the program starting, it will pass within seconds. Thanks for the videos, they're very helpful!

    I just have plain old vanilla depression. But it's really affecting me at the moment and it's making me less patient with bullshit. Which is okay, bullshit is bullshit. The problem is I have a tendency to tell others exactly what I think of them, which is not okay. It's blowing holes in my life for no reason when I should just walk away.
