Waze has saved me more than few times and I can’t thank it enough. Plus it creates a great laugh in the car as I reprogrammed the audio callouts to my own voice 😂😂
Håkon Ruud Waze and GMaps have different maps and different routing algorithms. So they are different. Waze uses Google places and own places, GMaps uses reports from Waze. That's the main difference.
WilfredsCat I didn't say they weren't different, I only meant that the competition was between Google and the GPS system, since G-maps and Waze has the same owner, Google Inc. And I do not disagree on your statements about different maps and routing algorithms, since I'm aware of this. If you tought so based on my comment, I may have expressed myself differenty than I intented.
Håkon Ruud Hello, Uber driver here in Pittsburgh, PA. I toggle between Google and Waze but mostly use Waze. Between Uber and my regular work as a service tech, I average about 1,200 miles of driving 'per week' in 4 states. Both seem to have similar accuracy although Waze occasionally will try to take me on these wonky routes that make no sense. At a T intersection for example where I need to turn left and perfectly legal, Waze would have me turn right then travel over half a mile, then make a horse-shoe turn and head back to the same intersection where I could have just turned left to begin with. Just one example. Other times at busy intersections near highway interchanges, it just seems to have a nervous breakdown and the highlighted route looks like a plate of spaghetti that keeps changing. Have not seen this in any other GPS app. Almost always tries to take me behind the destination building, residential or business doesn't seem to matter. Google does this also but not as often. I like the crowd-sourcing aspect of this app where other Wazers on the road can report issues. I had a rider months ago who is a mapping engineer at Uber's Advanced Technology Center here in Pittsburgh. It is my understanding that Waze was created by an Israeli company somewhere around 2009? Google bought them in 2013 for over 1 billion. Although Google owns Waze, they don't actually operate that app. However, the crowd-sourcing info. that Waze gathers from it's users updates Google Maps in real-time, or as close as they can to real-time. Google though does not update or enhance Waze in any way. This was mostly cinfirmed to me by the Uber engineer. I also like Waze' clean graphics on the screen which 'for me' is a little less straining than Google Maps which in my opinion has too much junk displayed. Now, when not Ubering, I prefer to use my stand-alone Garmin. More accurate in every way. I bought mine 5 years ago for around $300.00 at Best Buy. It is their middle of the road device. In over 400 thousand miles of driving between several vehicles, it has never once taken me behind an address, like to an alley. It also gives a half-mile count down to the destination... Half mile, then quarter, then in feet and announces... "In 200 feet, arrive at your destination, on the left." Mostly lines right up dead center to the building. It has never said I had arrived several buildings away. When exiting off a highway, same countdown and at a quarter mile the screen splits into two. Your standard route display on one side and a 'photo-real' view of the exit layout with correct lanes highlighted. The nav. voice will prompt you as to what lane/s to be in, then your turn at the exit ramp.
WilfredsCat Yeah, guess you can say that, but at the same time not fully. One thing is that its name isn't mentioned, therefore we cannot know who they are competing with, so based on the owners, I agree with your statement. But you have to agree on the fact that even tho we don't know who they are competing with, the competition is still there. Therefore it's a competition with several parts involved, not just Google, based on the whole situation. But still, I do agree with you to some degree :D
The other thing is I have a 2010 Lexus GX and to get the updated maps cost a bundle. Google and Waze update without needing to pay for anything and has traffic.
i had Maps Me once, i don't remember much what was it like, in fact i had all the gps apps, i need to try Maps Me again, maybe it improved in some way.
I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 in my 1996 Caddy and it is ok but I want one for my 2001 S-10. A mechanic put in a Jensen that slides out with a 7 Inch screen and boy it is a piece of shit. I want one that I can plot a route. Go to a map of Portland Oregon. Then to NE 122 and Glisan. Now go west on Glisan to NE 108. Now I have PTSD and cannot stand traffic and jams so I turn right on NE 108, look at the map to go to NE Halsey. I see I can do that on NE 109. Now which one do I buy that I can do that on??
Apple Maps works way better than my installed GPS. I live in the bay area and Apple Maps is far better at dealing with traffic versus my cars GPS, which for some reason, only shows traffic on the interstate
jasper bear not a fan either. Waze has a habbit of taking me to seedy alleys and rough looking areas of the city. Not good when driving at night in an unfamiliar area.
2:36 that parking tho

Faster is not my issue. I want accuracy.
What time stamp ? I never heard of
Waze is the best. I use it on the road all day while I'm out visiting clients.
By the way, Google bought Waze a few years ago for $1 billion...

Waze is owned by Google :) So it was basically Google vs the car's GPS system

Okay, now I understand. But as the car inbuilt navigation system isn't mentioned by it's name, it's more like a Google against itself competition :D

At the 2.35 mark..... how is it women just can not park even when going straight in,still takes up 2 bays.
It's "destination," NOT "final destination." Your destination IS final.. that's what destination means.. "destiny," and that's final.
newsveteran final destination makes sense if you planned multiple destinations along your trip, which is possible with both Google Maps and Waze
newsveteran, English is not your first language?
