Well, after scouring many recipes, this one was the best! I accidentally used less water and the knead time was short, so I let the dough rise overnight, re-kneaded, rolled them , let them rise again before roping them out. The dough relaxed fine. Came out golden and chewy and yummy.
I did exactly what you said to do and it turned out wonderful!! :) I usually have issues with the dough rising because I used to use hot water, but this time I used slightly warm water for the yeast activation part. I waited 10 mins and the yeast did in fact start to foam. It never did that for me before. I also rolled the dough in the oil the way you did and a crust did not form- that was another issue I used to have. When it came time to let the dough rise, I heated my oven to the lowest setting for a few mins and I also placed a cup of boiled (very hot) water in the oven with the dough. Every 30 mins putting more hot water when the water got cooled. I would say I took my time and gave the dough 1 1/2 hours to rise. They were amazing!!!! THANK YOU!! :) :) I never used bread flour before, but I'm glad I did.
Tried this recipe and it tastes very good! Thank you! It taste like pretzels that you buy in a chip bag. I sprinkled kosher salt on top and it tasted good.
Making these right now during quarantine! They are rising but I have followed many of your recipes and they are so well detailed that I know it will be great! Thanks 🤩💙
I have not watched your videos in awhile so good to see you are much more comfortable and interactive in front of the camera:) Love your videos Stephanie!
Always wanted to make this and now I can! Your video is so clear on the methods of how to make this! Thank you Stephanie! You are the best! Your fan from Singapore!
Love baked pretzels. I always have to buy one in the shopping mall. Now I can have pretzels anytime. Thank you for your easy recipe. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
I made these a couple days ago and they were great. When I buy a pretzel I prefer cinnamon and sugar, however I preferred the salted ones when I made it myself. Also, I liked it even more after it sat out a little while. I am about to make another batch right now!
Just made these....absolutely delicious. Mine too stuck to the foil, but it was because the egg wash ran down onto the foil...I added too much milk to thin it (no cream available but milk worked well) I will remember next time I make them. Thanks for sharing.
You are really good at explaining every step. I love pretzels and I found some healthy ones at dollar general store and they are expensive but really low in fat and cholesterol. But yours look so yummy. I'll have try this. I love breads and I make a french bread so yummy. Also sourdough bread is so tasty too.
Hi Stephanie, I always come back to your channel to watch your videos and today I must to say that you really surprised me!! I love Pretzels and I wanted to make them at home ( where I live in Italy it's very hard to find them) but, I don't know why, I always thought it was very difficult! This recipe seems to be simple and perfect!! I will give it a try this weekend! Thanks for sharing !!
I just made these, turned out fantastic. I don't have bread flour, so I used 2 1/2cup of all purpose flour and a 1/4cup of potatoes flour. It turned out soft and chewy. Than you so much for sharing your recipe.
Hello, can you make star shaped nutella brioche the next time? I like to watch your videos, because it is so easy to follow, the instructions are very clear and the meassurments are always right(and in grams) . Hope you can make this the next time!
Second time doing this first time didn’t have the bread flour and it turned soft but very tasty and this time doing it with the bread flour loved the result thank you 😍
wow, this is the most beautiful homemade pretzel i've ever seen here in youtube and i think this is also the first time i've seen you loosen up a little bit, it seems like you missed making pretzel and so excited to make and eat them :)
Lovely, beautiful Brilliantly explained VERYVERY precisely demonstrated. I love you Joy.especially your pretzels..thank you for sharing greatly appreciated.lovely XXX
Stephanie Jaworski I made your oatmeal cookies they where awesome, these Pretzels look so good, yum. I like the way you cook, very informative easy to follow directions, your better than most of these Television cooks. Thanks very much I tell all my friends about you.
I did my dough in a bread machine and they turned out perfect then I cooked them and an air fryer thank you so much for the recipe now I have a good snack
Do not use foil on your baking sheet for this recipe. Baking Soda will react to the foil and could/will give your pretzel dough a metallic taste. Parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet would work as a substitute for the foil.
I just made them and they were delicious! All my family loved them!! Thank you very much Stephani, I had been waiting for a pretzel recipe like this. :)
I loved this video. i actually love all your videos and ive successfully tried almost 70% of your recipe and they have not failed me at all. Thank you so much for all your work and for producing these formative and amazing videos
Brezels or Prezels are the little snacks you eat out of the bag like crisps. You are making Brezen and very well too. I am from Bavaria, I should know about Brezen❤️❤️❤️Also, a Breze has to have a bit of a crust outside, not soft. The inside needs to be soft. In order to achieve that, you put a bowl of water in the oven. In Bavaria the Brezen come with salt on top, plenty. You always can scratch it off. And butter, don’t forget to eat them with butter. This is how we do it. I make them every day ( almost) ❤️❤️❤️
Hello stephanie I made them today. they turnt out perfect During the Ramadan there great with soup 👌I will enjoy them tonight but my kids eat them already My daughter said they were great 🤤
hi you are amazing and I am big fan of your baking but I got a request if you can tell us how to make traditional Russian honey cake please please thank you
Thank you for the video, I'm a big pretzel fan :) I was wandering if you could maybe do a Polish recipe? My mother in law is going to visit us soon, and I'd really like to impress her, but all those Polish treats look so complicated...
Rhum Baba is said to be from Poland and is best known as the favorite dessert at the court of Louis XV. It is easier than cheesecake and keeps well due to rum sauce. Origin is said to be from exiled Polish king, Stanislaus I, in the early 18th Century. (I like foods with stories, and that is a good one in my estimation)
5 times of done this one now and I have to say they are fun to make.. Especially with kids.. They have a blast helpibg make the dough, rolling out their snakes.. We did even with some unusual looking pretzels. But that's kind of the fun of making the with kids anyway. One thing I should mention.. The first 2 x I made these I followed instructions exactly! But I found if I only boiled them 30 seconds per side they were okay, but I added and additional 30 seconds and I seem to like the texture.
thanks, stephanie. all my mixing bowls are stainless, and date from the 70s, so i definitely need some upgrades. i think my largest is maybe 2 qt, and that's just not a lot of room for baking much.
Do you have any suggestions on how to make almond pretzels (like Auntie Anne’s)? Is it the same process as brushing the baked pretzel with butter and dipping it in almond bits and sugar …similar to what you were suggesting to do for cinnamon and sugar pretzels?
These look so good Stephanie, and I’ve been looking for a good instrucable. I tried this once before, without video instruction, but I really messed up when the twisted dough went into the boiling water - they came out horribly misshapen, tho tasted great when baked. Fingers crossed I don’t mess this one up! Thanks for this video!
Hi! I find that the dough is ALOT easier to work with or make a pretzel shape if you dont punch/ push it down.. Just flip the bowl over! You got more dough and you can stretch it alot easier :)
I am going to try your recipe for the Super Bowl party on Sunday. I am also looking to buy a new kitchen stand mixer and was wondering what brand yours was?
Oh this is going to be great. I use to watch them make these at the mall. I tried to do the flip thing they do when they twist them into shape. Could not. Now I can do it your way.
Hi last question. I don't have a stand mixer but I do have a hand mixer with a dough hook attachment, can I use my hand mixer's dough hook for the kneading?
Your pretzels look so yummy. Thank you for sharing the recipe. I love pretzels, but I don't like mine that salty... for me the perfect pretzel would be made with some coarse sugar instead of salt sprinkled on top. :D It's just something I really love.
Thank you for your wonderful recipes. I made a mistake though: my oven is not as large as Stephanie's and I tried to fit all 6 pretzels on the one tray! A big error on my part. Because the pretzels were touching each other, even before they entered the oven, they did not cook evenly (and were raw in parts). I turned them upside down to cook the bottoms! I think I should have allowed 4 pretzels on the one tray. But, I am learning from my mistakes and will definitely have another go! Oh yes, they didn't taste too bad after all, but I know they will be better next time!
Hi Ms. Joy. Can I put the boiled pretzels into the freezer for later use if I don't want to bake them all at one time? Thank you for sharing the great recipe!
Hello Stephanie, as you can see I fallow all your recipes, my question tonight is , I saw on this recipe you didn't use your SAF red instant yeast , for this specific recipe do I have to use the one you used here? or may I use my SAF red instant. thanks a Million
Would this dough be too stiff for rolls instead ? We were in Canada and ate at a wonderful German Resturant and had pretzel rolls that were delicious. I would love to try that. Love your videos!
Love your demonstration which is very detailed and informative. May I ask if I want to have other flavours, like cheese or cinnamon sugar, should I put the dough onto grated cheese/sugar right after it was boiled?
Venus Chow If you want to use cinnamon sugar, then I would bake the pretzels with just the egg wash. When the pretzels come out of the oven brush them with some melted butter and then dip them in cinnamon sugar.
if you whip it like a jumprope, it will happen faster, you won't have to spend so much time rolling it. Get it to a about 12 inches and then grab both ends and start flipping it. Works like a charm.
Hi! I'm a huge fan! I've been using all your recipes ( from cakes, pies, and bread) I love your videos. I'm new in baking so it really helps how you explain everything. Thank you! I also just want to ask how to store pretzel? I usually don't have time in the morning so I always bake them at night then just store it. but I was wondering if I can boil it at night and put it in the fridge then bake it in the morning while getting ready for work.
Why in some recipes the pretzels are dipped into the water with baking soda in it? Is there any difference between your method and theirs. For your method is boil the pretzels in the boiling water with baking soda in it. Please advise me. Thank you.
Just made these turned out great! I used milk instead of water when initally creating the dough. Made the bread super soft.
Yum! 😋
I thank you so much for always mentioning the amount in gram and mililiter - it makes it so much easier! Greetings from Germany :)
Well, after scouring many recipes, this one was the best! I accidentally used less water and the knead time was short, so I let the dough rise overnight, re-kneaded, rolled them , let them rise again before roping them out. The dough relaxed fine. Came out golden and chewy and yummy.

Love these pretzels! They are, honestly, better than any "mall" or carnival pretzels you can buy!! Well done, Stephanie!
Making these right now during quarantine! They are rising but I have followed many of your recipes and they are so well detailed that I know it will be great! Thanks 🤩💙

Awww Your puppy is my favorite part of your video! Love that dog!
I just made these, turned out fantastic. I don't have bread flour, so I used 2 1/2cup of all purpose flour and a 1/4cup of potatoes flour. It turned out soft and chewy. Than you so much for sharing your recipe.

I didn’t find that, but parchment paper or silicone could also be used.

Since i live alone. I was wondering if i could freeze them! If so at what stage do i (storage) freeze them?
I typically freeze the baked pretzel.
