I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

Your system completely changed my game. I went from shooting over 100 and wanting to quit due to embarrassment....now I am actually having fun out there and hitting some impressive shots. I still have a long way to go, but golf is fun for me now because I have the ability to hit good shots. I’ve even had a few friends of mine who are very good golfers compliment my swing.

The best part of Tom's videos is the simplicity and ease in which he explains things. For a golfer of my skill level (about a 13 or 14 handicap) doing the basics and staying within my ability keeps the game fun and enjoyable. Most golf tip videos spend 15 minutes basically not saying anything useful and of are no help. I need basic, fundamental golf tips and Tom delivers every time!

    Hi Tom,
I’m back again with another update. My handicap went up for a while after viewing your videos because I had a lot of demons in my swing that had to be cured. And, I was counting every stroke per the rules of golf to get an accurate picture of how much I needed to improve. Yesterday I played in a golf event with about 150 other guys. After reviewing your videos the day before and putting in some practice, I shot 80 and finished the tournament with the low net score of the day: 5 under par 67. I hit more fairways and more greens in regulation than ever before. If I was putting better I could have easily broken 80. My days of frustration golf are in the rear view mirror. Thanks for sharing your philosophy and process for playing better golf. 🙂

Saguto ---- this is such a crucial video that everyone should watch. After watching this video, I am totally smashing the ball, straight as an arrow, ball flight higher than the clouds and it seems completely effortless. I am all smiles these days because of [all] your great videos. The consistency of my shots now is so solid now, the ball is going right towards the target. I practice in an open field sometimes and since watching this video, I've hit my target [a 10 foot tree] several times, I need to change my target so I don't kill that tree. Saguto, you have the best golf instruction videos --- there's no one that can explain the golf swing like you. I tell everyone to watch your channel because why ??? because your tips work - they REALLY work. Thanks again, Saguto !!!

Tom, your training has changed my game totally and all for the much better. I'm enjoying golf the most I have since I started back a few years ago. Shortly after I started your course I saw things in the golf swing that I knew were there, but couldn't get there. I'm there now. I just have to practice the training you provided. I have a relationship with the ball in my swing that I was missing. I now feel totally involved with it in my swing now. I have been taking my time with your lessons, not going forward until I was comfortable where I was and it's worked wonderfully. Thank you Tom. Awesome training in more detail than any books or videos I've ever watched.

Tom, thanks for your simple, smooth training tips, and especially for using the term lead and trail, and front and rear, for describing arms and leg actions, instead of using left and right, like other instructors do. Makes it much easier for us oddball lefty golfers to understand instead of transposing everything, as left is right and right is left, when watching most training videos, for us southpaws, and that’s really annoying and distracting.
    Great Videos !

Good Job Tom! You gave me a "reminder" to keep the chest pointed in a downward fashion for as long as possible on the backswing. Same thing on the downswing, "get the chest involved." This also keeps the body in a "proper tilt." I always strive for a straight left arm and try not to "overswing." Keep up the good work!!! Always enjoy your lessons!!!

Awesome! I'm glad this lesson resonated with you, and I'm very glad to learn of your resulting dramatic ball striking improvement. Nice job incorporating it into your swing!!
Now, I wouldn't necessarily call this a "wooden" swing as there is no stiffness or tension involved. Instead, we are just getting to our body's natural stopping point where the hips and shoulders have completed their tilted rotation, , the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists have properly set without any contrived or forced action. This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".
Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work!

I learned this finally this year. My mistake at first was shorter backswing but I thought that meant swing “easy”. So the ball went nowhere. Now, shorter backswing does not mean weak swing. Your video is such good advice.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 года назад +4

I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Ron. And yes - I purposely did not say "swing easy to hit it farther". I don't subscribe to that notion. It is true that the distance will feel effortless when the swing is properly executed, but that is happening through the efficient combining of physics and geometry to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". The key here is to avoid going beyond your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete and the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees.
Keep up the great work and have fun out there!

The half-swing has helped me more than anything I've ever implemented. Interestingly, on video the 'half-swing' is really more of a 3/4 swing... Moving to the half-swing feel allowed me to have better weight management, better shift/rotation and significantly more lag. You're 100% correct when opining the swing feels effortless and the ball explodes off the clubface - also much easier to work draws/fades. The 1/2 swing is harder for me to use with hybrids/driver as it tends to steepen my angle of attack. I have to slightly modify a shallower swing to avoid bottoming out the hybrids/woods. Thanks for putting the content out there- Happy New Year!!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

And what appears to be a 3/4 swing, Brent, is actually much closer to a full swing than we might think. Ultimately, the key is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist).
As for those hybrids and woods, remember that the shaft length defines the shaft plane, and the longer the shaft the more around the body the club will travel. Otherwise, aside from minor ball position differences it's really the same swing with all clubs. For example, have a look at my range session demonstration using a 7 iron, 3W, and driver towards the latter part of this lesson video: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html
Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!!

Being tall, I naturally went to this swing by default and was hitting my irons pretty well. For whatever reason I figured I had to change it to be more "conventional". I recently went back to this more simplistic view on swinging and started to pure my shots way more than before.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 года назад +1

Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness!

Like millions ( at this point ) I discovered your videos during the Pandemic. I've made a point to watch them all during this time and have learned so much about the golf swing. In my opinion this one, as 'simple' as it is, is your best!! Shoulders, shoulders, shoulders, 'bring the body with it' and that's the complete swing!! Lead arm straight shoulders turn and your golf swing is complete!! You can't go wrong. I actually did this, this golf season ( lessons from a Pro ) and the results were immediate for all clubs!! Also, watch Sandy Lyle swing videos for reinforcement!! Once again Tom, great video and you were crushing the ball!! Thanks!!

    • @SagutoGolf

I'm glad to know that you already do this and have an understanding of the consequences of going too far. The key here is to avoid exceeding your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete and the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees.
Now, get out there and figure out that 3 iron!!
      Cheers!

one way of finding your range of movement with your left arm- whilst keeping your arm straight- is to swing the club to the parallel to the target line position- with just your left hand on the club- and, wait a while. the pressure that the heel pad applies should build up and this then sets the club back into motion, continuing the club on its arc. pressure with the heel pad stretches the arm out.

Tom, I would like to apologise to you for overlooking your You Tube Channel as being 80 years old I felt your S&T swing would not be the thing for me to try..To me it seemed like the type of swing for a much younger golfer, as you are. Recently I saw a video by Rob Cheney where he convinced me that this swing would not harm my body anymore than any other. Today I tried the S&T swing at my golf range after watching a couple of your videos and I am now "Hooked".I could not believe how quickly I got into the swing and hit the ball consistently pure and without much effort I was increasing my normal distances for each club. I did not try the driver but will do so next time.Again I,m sorry that I overlooked your videos but now know this swing has no age barriers and is kind to the body.Best regards from a satisfied old man.

No apology necessary, Bob!! The Stack & Tilt swing is a very body-friendly method. For me this is supported by my personal experience as a player and furthered by the fact that the majority of my students are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.

Keeping lead arm straight has been game changer over last couple weeks. I’m a returning golfer and picked up goodwill irons to get started again. Told my self if I could hit roughly 75% consistent shots with the irons I would order some new ones. Well new clubs showing up in 2 days. Would love to see how much better my rounds get.
    Thanks.

I want to echo GS Delve but add something else that has helped. I was a 12-13 handicap and not improving. In 2-years I am a solid 7 handicap all season and as low as a 5. However, I still have lapses where I start to struggle. So, I watch the video's again to re-set. Tom really has changed my game. I am now paired with the best players in my summer and winter leagues. I was intimidated at first but now I feel I can compete with the best players, and have fun, and win a few bucks.

      Hi Thomas,
A significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf - and here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” if you’re interested in checking it out: go.saguto.golf/
You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. Yes - the swing transition process can be a difficult one as we try to rid ourselves of those stubborn "ghosts of swings past", but I absolutely encourage you to stick with it, because if you go about this properly your game and your enjoyment of it will benefit dramatically. To this end I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Tom

I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my channel's content! The shoes are from a company called Athalonz - www.athalonz.com/pages/golf-shoes. Remember to use code SAGUTO20 if purchasing a pair to receive a $20 (US) discount off your order!! I like the video. It has a lot of good information. I would say that i disagree with the idea of the swing being an A to B with the destination B being impact. This is what causes so many issues with golfers. If anything its A to B to C or A to B with B or destination being the face being closed. What happens is if your swing thought is solely impact most people never get the face closing because the want a square face at impact so they just hold it off. Any good golfer knows that is the swing thought to hitting a fade/high/spinning shot. So for the folks that are trying to get rid of that constant open face/across the ball impact position they must learn to get the face closing through impact and the best swing thought for that is having the end of swing to be 90 degrees point in follow through with right hand going over left.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 года назад +1

I do not advocate "hitting at" the ball, Kyle, as that is a recipe for an over-the-top chop. Here's a lesson that speaks to this: ruclips.net/video/8zeERedVOiY/видео.html
Beyond this, the shot shaping grid tells us that as long as the club is approaching the ball properly from the inside in the downswing, then a clubface that is open to the target line and closed to the path will produce a desirable push-draw ball flight. Physics and geometry dictate that this will happen without the need to actively manipulate the club by timing the rolling of the hands through impact.
