Speechless : this game had the highest level of play.. To recover from such a huge deficit in the third set to win, Lin Dan you are the GOAT indeed of Badminton. Take a Bow 😇😊
Lin Dan's game is such a treat to watch. Every little movement is so smooth, so calculated, so deceptive. There is such little arm movement on the shots.
Well played,Axelesn... He often counteract The Great Lin dan shots.. especially that front moves.. But the victory waves always along the legend side only... Keep trying Victor 🥇
@easin haque Your 'Age Theory' has substance if we talk of Lin Dan of 2019-20. In 2015, Lin was still young and dominant while Axelsen was an upstart, a rookie. Still he had Lin in all sorts of trouble. Nobody is questioning the fact that Lin Dan is the greatest player of all time. However, even the greatest of players struggle against a few. Axelsen always posed problems for Lin and leads the head to head 6-3. If you bring in age again, for the sake of argument, suffice to say nobody pleaded Lin to continue playing. He has nothing left to win. If he felt old he could have quit. When he hasn't then age becomes redundant. His losses are as much his as are his many wins.
This is Axelsen close to his best, he won the 2016 bronze a year later and the world title the following year. Lin Dan meanwhile was already on his slide down. Far from his 2008-2012 demigod form. And yet...
Many years later, I still think this is one of Lin Dan's greatest matches in the later part of his career. Yes there is the 2019 Malaysian Open win against Chen Long, but that wasn't a three setter, and I always felt that China vs. China games are of a different nature since they know each others' game way too well.
With all due to respect to Axelsen being a good player...Looking at the modern shuttlers momota,axelsen,Ginting..Being an ardent follower of Lin Dan and LCW for years these new ones wouldn't even stand a chance against the two in their younger ages prime game. With age starting to show up u could clearly see LD moving to strategic game with lesser smashes which was his main Strength. But the guy still is brilliant..#GOAT
@@ind-ram I really think Axelsen during his best year (when he became world champion and world n°1) would have been an amazing challenger. During that time he was incredible and unplayable, better than Momota nowadays.
@@tichaboyfr Nah Axelsen couldn't beat momota even before momota got banned. Momota was destroying axelsen BEFORE he got banned, AND after he restarted playing. Yeah sure, Axelsen was at his peak when Momota wasn't around, but his playstyle is too prone to errors. Also, Momota is an EXPERT when it comes to playing against tall players. He NEVER gives too many opportunities to smash (Axelsen's playstyle). Momota's gameplay is very very strategic. While LCW relies more on powerful defense, raw physical powerful footwork, opportunist smasher; and LD more in powerful smasher with ideal height angles, flawless effortless footwork, amazing mental strength and anticipation. Momota is extremely strong on defense, extremely strong mentally, amazing tactics/safe/consistent base game BUT he does lack a bit when it comes to finishing points. Axelsen is a great player, but against Momota he always falls short because he gets frustrated against him and his mental strength isn't as good as Momota's calm gameplay. To this day, Momota is 14-2 against Axelsen.
@@YouKnowYongHwa You're right when it comes to the part of the mental strenght. But I keep thinking that Axelsen loses to Momota because of mental, not skills.
@@tichaboyfr Mental yes, but if you really take a look at the strategic side, Momota is by far superior. Momota likes to outrun his opponent and his physical/endurance side is stronger there. Have you seen how Momota plays? He always plays fast drop shots. Why? Because it's the safest base game. He rarely lifts, and because he doesn't lift often, even if Axelsen's offense is destructive, he doesn't get as many opportunities. Also, Badminton is ALL about the mental game. Mentality is part of one's game. So EVEN if you think that Axelsen's skills are ''better'', that will never enough to win the game. There's also physical fitness/endurance, tactics, footwork efficiency, deception, anticipation/reading your opponent, etc etc..
Lin dan is 31, axelson is 21 at the time of the match. Lin dan and Lee Chong would have this kid alive if he played against them in their intense competition period.
The affairs! What affairs? This match at the Japanese open? If so: 2017 silver medal at the World Championship, 2016 4th at the Olympics, 2018 silver medal and 2016 gold medal at the All England. So maybe I got your response wrong and I do not understand what you mean by affairs in this case.
Just thought about the affair regarding cheating his wife. That did hardly effct his play in my opinion, other younger players got better, LD a bit less due to partly age and maybe the lesser need to win, less eager.
Partially this is Lin Dan's tactic to wear out its opponent -- to give himself better chance in the third game. Otherwise, if Lin wears himself out and lose the second game, he would be double disadvantaged (age + stamina) in the third one. In many matches, Lin went easy on the second game when he has already won the first and the opponent is on similar footing. The fact that Axelsen won more points shows that Axelsen had to put more effort into the three games total.
Too much height is a disadvantage lol but apparently you dont know a lot about badminton In all seriousness though, being over 1,90m is more of a challenge in singles than it is an advantage. The longer reach is not as important as it is in doubles, and you've got to change direction quite often, which is harder for a taller, heavier athlete.
Err... and being left handed also provides Lin Dan with an advantage! Remember Axelsen will have been only 21 when this was played. You can respect both players for their skills and the way they played.
Lin Dan's stamina is just unbelievable..🔥🔥
damn this man, from 11-3 he won the game, true legend

Best rallies
Lin Dan controled most rallies, making Victor consuming energy around the court
