    Airwindows is really a game changer to me. The plugins REALLY make heavy work with little resources. Chris is a magician, it's crazy how he just releases his stuff for free, being high quality as those plugins are. Channel strips, filters, distortion, verbs, delays, tape stuff, his consoles, dynamic controllers(compressors and stuff), it's all top notch, I'm having the time of my life making music with them, it's been pretty much Airwindows and MeldaProduction for me (altho AO is nice as well)

    Airwindows plugins are superb, as some who grew up in the 70s and 80s and has used tape and analogue outboard consistently, I really don't feel anyone need look much further than Airwindows, especially if tone and saturation are important to the user.
    To Tape - Tape emulation.
    BussColors - Neve, SSL, API saturation.
    CStrip - Channel strip, with ultra-musical filters.
    Mackity - Mackie gain drive.
    Iron oxide classic - Tape emulation.
    MatrixVerb - Alesis style reverb.
    PyeWacket - Pye compressor approximation.
    ClipOnly - no more clipping.
    Capacitor - High pass/Low pass.
    Don't be put of by the lack of a fancy, realistic GUI,
    - instead just focus on the sound these plugins produce...
    love to ALL, feel no hate

    • @treyhudson73

      As someone who also grew up in the 80s, a plain stock DAW is enough to blow my mind!
      The results of most plugins are relatively easy to replicate with stock tools. The value I find in plugins is complexity reduction (should be difficult to replicate) and PRESETS. I feel like the last one gets skipped over too often. Perhaps people feel it's "cheating more" to use them?
      Edit: Of course, as for free plugins...why the hell not!?

    • @DavidGonzalez-su6zg
      @DavidGonzalez-su6zg 3 года назад +1

      @@lawinter1949 no. But you can't say "way better" since every plug-in comes from a different piece of analog gear. Some plug-ins are just knockoffs of OTHER plug-ins that haven't even been emulated from the REAL THING. UAD and waves come from ACTUAL gear.
      Put it this way... UAD and WAVES emulate the 1176 but emulate 2 DIFFERENT pieces of gear of the same 1176. Waves got A. UAD got b.
      You can't say one is better than the other amd that they don't sound the same because THEY WEREN'T emulated from the same piece of gear. BUT...! Since each has its in own style, character and sound they BOTH are fuxkin awesome when used correctly and in context of the mix.

    • @lawinter1949
      @lawinter1949 3 года назад +6

      @@DavidGonzalez-su6zg Dude, I'm not claiming that AO is objectively better than the expense emulations nor am I claiming that Waves and UAD don't make awesome plugins, because there have been hundreds of hits made with the plugins from both. I'm saying that I, after using and comparing all these emulations we are taking about, prefer the sound and user experience of the Analog Obsession plugins way more.
      They are made by one guy in Finland and he makes his whole living off of emulating analog gear and posting his work on patreon for people to download for free if they want with an option to subscribe to him and help fund his obsession. The UI is far more intuitive and user friendly than the expensive plugins that model similar gear (in my opinion), the sound is on par or better (in my opinion) and the CPU load is a lot less.

    I downloaded a few of those. Let's see if I can get some of the Windows one's to work on Linux. And I didn't have the full set of AirWindows, so I grabbed those too. Thanks for the listing of free stuff.

    In iOS you can save magic dice settings as a preset in the daw… not the plug-in . Hope that helps

    As you mention in this video, oversampling is a big thing for distortion and saturation plugins. I see no mention of this for the otherwise attractive Burier. Any info on this?

    Thanks for this! I was surprised to see several attractive freebies that I'd never heard about before. (I approached the video thinking "here we go again with the usual, excellent, freebies out there"...) Of course, this does not help at all with my constant struggle to "make music" instead of collecting plugins!!

    Thanks for the great videos. How did you get those buttons at the top of the Surge FX bank? Or have they scrapped that feature in the 2023 version?

      Haha thanks. I do voiceover work but very rarely, not a super big passion of mine. Can be fun from time to time though!

    can the curves in Freeform Phase be automated at all? The interface works different than dragging nodes around so i doubt my DAW could automate the curves like an EQ

    Hi, came across this vid by accident and it has me thinking. Could I ask a question please? Is there such a thing as a vocal plugin that will pitch change in real-time or am I dreaming? Also have you come across/reviewed ANY vocal plugins at all ie those worth trying out? Thanks..apologies if these questions are too simplistic (I'm new to recording) 👍

    How are you getting that vocal tone without talking directly into a mic and no room noise? Voiceover? Amazing. Also great speaking voice.
