one of my favorite drum tracks...great to see the evolution from the demo to the past live set too! especially that ride work during the chorus and the outro. i'm a big fan of yours, happy to support whatever you wind up doing moving forward!
@CyborgDrummerOnBass It might have been a four mic setup - close mics on kick, snare, rack, and floor banking on enough cymbal bleed to get by without OHs. Whatever the case, we just went to Guitar Center and bought Shure's cheapest drum mic kit then ran everything through the crummy, underpowered board we used for a PA so we could submix out to two channels for Pro-Tools LE.
You're one of my top 3 favourite drummers of all time and i just love hearing these isolated drum tracks. It'd be even better to have a video to go with it i just love watching your style, its the best out of anyone!! Living in Western Australia I've only had the chance to see you a few times but they were awesome!! The best live version of this song i reckon is the Dave Letterman show one, and im stoked someone made it into HD coz i been watching for years in terrible video quality so when i saw it re-done i watched it heeeeaps haha. I'm supporting Municipal Waste this weekend so im amped up sorry haha just watching/hearing you play gets me cranked! Yeeeow!! 🤟
@@DerekGrantMusic There you go; ruclips.net/video/xdw_S_R9jag/видео.htmlsi=OZ-4wPqRhqKzkAuK Derek, consider making a video about the 2002 Halloween gig. It would be awesome to hear some stories from the Good Mourning 02-04 era. 🤘
@@DerekGrantMusic hi mate! Sorry don't get notifications off here so only saw this by accident haha. I don't know where it went I was looking for it to show someone and can't find it on here anymore. I posted it on farcebook earlier this year when I saw it so I'm going to try find it there then see if it's still on here somewhere. I hope it hasn't been removed coz its sooo rad!! Was always one of my favourite live footages of you drumming and only ever had that fuzzy old one then one day there was a HD one and I immediately posted it saying "Someone uploaded the awesome All On Black Letterman video on RUclips and it's like Xmas morning!!" Hahaha. I'll get back to ya 🤟
@@DerekGrantMusic sounds very similar to the queen of pain snare, which I love! All on black and queen of pain are my favourite songs by you. And thanks again for the reply, twice I've spoken to my idol!
@mot3824 That makes sense, the HWM split and the demos were recorded within 10 months of each other so it was probably the same kit for both. Here's a one-shot of the snare from the HWM session if you're interested: bit.ly/QOPsnare
@@DerekGrantMusic that snare sounds crisp! But I remembered our last conversation about the HWM split, and these demos so I just assumed it could be Matt's snare still. Weren't they recorded in Chicago?
@mot3824 You'll have to remind me of our conversation, I don't think I ever used Matt's snare, in fact, I don't even recall him having one! I was still living in Detroit for the first six months or so that I was in the band, taking the train to Chicago a few times a month to rehearse or record - Matt's kit was already stacked up in the corner of the practice space, so that's what I used until I moved to the city, I was able to bring my snare and cymbals on the train.

Absolutely brilliant! So nuanced and clever and tasty 10/10 Derek Grant forever
Thanks for doing this.
You have been my favorite drummer for the past 20+ years. Hope to see you live again soon.
That's a really full drum sound for a three mic setup - Love it!
Where do you put the mics? That’s wild
Cuz Derek's the 🐐

These are so awesome. Thank you 🤘🏻

Is this on matts DW snare?
@mot3824 It was most likely a DW Edge snare that I bought to record Destruction By Definition back in 1995
