      Listen DUNDERHEAD!
if an actor says Tom Cruise's name for promoting his movie,it's a good PR boost for his film and if it's the other way around ,Tom starring in a psycho killer movie and saying Christian Bale or Jack Nicholson in the Shining or anyone else was his inspiration then y'all geekos would of been like Tom Cruise is absolutely nuts, who cares,He's a fuckin Scientologist.

@@AndrewKay OMG! This quote describes Cruise in a nutshell. Even in earlier movies of his, like the first Top Gun, the way he moves (e.g. he doesn't turn just his eyes or head to look, he stiffly rotates his torso) has always struck me as android/alien like. And the nothing behind the eyes thing. Very intense with completely empty eyes. Chilling

I think it is also telling, that for me, one of his best performances is as a cold blooded assassin in Collateral. His sheer lack of humanity that is portrayed in this character is quite chilling. An excellent film, and Michael Mann, I'm sure picked Cruise very carefully for this role. None of the excesses of say Don from Sexy Beast, just an ice cold killer.

*As a survivor of child trafficking from the same cult that absolutely worships Tom Cruise... this theory is hilarious. And I find it very sweet and delightful as a fan of yours.*
*The truth is far less adorable. I will tell you a true story. Whilst being trafficked as a young person by the "Sea Organization" in the late 90's... all of us were forced to attend opening day of the brand new film Battlefield Earth. Also known as the worst bad movie of all time. It was the first showtime for the LA theatre that early Friday. And my group was shuffled in with a large group from the Cult's international management office. And something interesting happened during the trailers. The preview for Eyes Wide Shut came on. And the management staff had some very stange reactions to this trailer. When the first shot of Tom came on screen, they all started to cheer in unison. Fair enough. He is a very popular member.*
*But then the first shot of Nicole Kidman came on. And that whole group boo'd even louder than they just cheered for Tom! And they were still married at this point!*
*A few of us in our group looked at one another... VERY confused. They knew something we didn't. That the big boss man, David Miscavige, was actively working to split them up.*
*Miscavige had, for some time, made it his mission in life to make Tom Cruise his best friend. Apparently Nicole was NOT into it.*
*It has since been confirmed by several people who worked directly for Miscavige and became whistleblowers about his insane behavior... that he personally convinced Tom to allow him to have her followed, and wire-tapped, and bugged. So that dirt could be found about her, and revealed to Mr. Cruise. So that he would divorce her. You can look all this up. It's incredibly well documented. I assure you.*
*But a LOT of things changed about Tom after that. As you have perfectly pointed out here. But behind the scenes, he absolutely SURROUNDED himself with Miscavige approved people. Exclusively. And famously had them pre-screen potential dating candidates. All through them.*
*Those stories are also fully documented. And heartbreaking. But his professional career changes became very streamlined as well. And you also have to understand that he's mostly thinking about work as a producer. You know... he MAKES the films that he stars in.*
*He'll bring on directors to shoot the movie. But he RUNS the films (see infamous covid mask rant as exhibit-a). So his money is made on the back end. Far more than if he just took the biggest paydays he could find for acting rolls.*
*And what movies does he know how to make? Action. Action movies starring Tom Cruise. Big stunts. Big box office numbers. Big money. He did NOT participate in the actors strike. He's on the OTHER side of that team.*
*But yeah... those were the big changes from 1999. Good times!*
    And I didn't say the "S-word"! Because I love you, bruh! ❤😂

A film series about a highly secretive organisation, of which Cruise is a central poster boy, that frequently comes between him and his love life (I mean come one, Michelle Monaghan is basically a stand-in for Katie Holmes), but is ultimately essential to SAVING THE WORLD! Agree 100%. When people laugh and joke, it's supposed to be relaxing...bonding even. When Tom does it, it's sinister, and has a menacing, untrustworthy vibe. I think it's because Tom has spent his entire life keeping down his true feelings, defended from his true self and insecurities, and 'rebuilding' a version of himself, acceptable to his audience, to him, to The Church, and generally playing whack-a-mole with problematic emotions, people and situations. Ostensibly living in his own Machiavellian controlling dystopia, where he almost fully believes the reflection he sees in the mirror. But just a flicker of unhappy child Tom comes through, when his buttons get pushed by the 'wrong' interviewer, or where PR goes off message. Happy days.

The problem with him is that he is happy to destroy a film if he feels it is not about him and his character. The travesty that was the 'Mummy' is well known for that problem. He had large sections of the film rewritten to make his character more important with more screen time.

Do you know that scene near the end of The Matrix? Where Neo runs into Smith. Literally runs into him. Then bursts out. That's what I think Tom Cruise will do at some point.
He's going to be so one with himself that someone is going to get exploded from the inside by him flexing. He's a very powerful man.

Yeah, but they're waaay softer now than they were years ago. They're shrinking, they have no staff (struggling to have enough staff to open the new orgs), Miscavige is involved in several lawsuits right now in which the judges will NOT give him some slack, one of their famous poster boys went to prison for multiple r4pes (Danny Masterson) and there's a small but very loud crowd giving them a hard time protesting for MONTHS and raising awareness on RUclips. CoS is on their way down. Just waiting for them to have their tax exempt status removed, and goodbye.

Non representational anecdote - but after filming himself hanging out of a Airbus A400M at nearby RAF Wittering one day he apparently went into a pub in our town and "was very nice" and let people take selfies and bought a round of drinks or something. Still terrifying though yeah.
