The main downside I would see in the new controller attachments is the fact the controllers won't fit inside the Oculus Quest Carrying Case anymore because they're too long. I love the fact with the old Kiwi ones that I can still fit them nicely inside one another and in the case.
I can’t believe I forgot to try this. I just tried it, and it takes some work. You can kinda fit them in together but you have to depress one of the knuckle strap tightening buttons to get it through the other controller sensor ring. But once together the grips new length limit how packed you can make them. So together they are as tall as the grips are if a little more as you can’t quite them them all the way through the rings. I’ll put a pic of them together on my Instagram instagram.com/oqplayvr tomorrow.
"The main downside", the real main downside is that the grips block sensors on the front of the controllers. Right where those two nubs are, terrible design!
@@cannonball8885 the tracking works perfectly fine and is not affected at all maybe u need to clean your camera lenses and turn off your guardian I used to have a lot of tracking issues when I had the guardian on
Bought this. It's AMAZING! So much better than my old Kiwi Grips, which dug into my hand because of the velcro, and the velcro was worn out. And the halo protector doesn't interfere at all and keep my controllers from breaking. Highly recommend!
It kinda does, just as long as you can adapt to the thicker grips. The weight is ever so slightly heavier, but for that handle feel, it does feel better than the smaller grips for that purpose, but for other games, less as much, apart from shooters where the longer grip can feel nicer to grip with the other hand.
I've been using these for a few weeks now, I only started playing Beat Saber about a month ago, too. I will say that these grips felt fine when playing Normal and Hard but as soon as I got good enough for Expert and Expert + on some tracks, I've found that the controllers are a bit bulky and awkward. I think other people have hit on this point but I think these grips put your hand lower on the controller and thus away from the center of gravity. This doesn't affect most gameplay but when you're doing Expert or Expert + on Beat Saber you definitely do feel it. I am hoping to just get my arm strength up enough to compensate but I might buy a set of cheaper lighter grips to test my theory.
I see what you mean. I have the first gen one and no problems there. I bought the larger one because I liked the new wrist wrap solution. And its much better, but for expert+ maybe u can hold like you would hold on the smaller once and use the extra length as counterweight?
@@quazimoto5241 I can pretty much second on this. I've been rocking the AMVR grips, which is fantastic, where it holds on to my hands really snuggly and only added unnoticeable weight to the controller. Since I didn't want to be holding onto the buttons and saw Jay's video about these Kiwi grip, I decided to get them. They definitely felt better to grip as I can lower my grip on the longer part of the handle and is a bit more comfortable than the AMVR grip however, like you have said, the grip made the controller substantially heavier and man do my arms get tired faster. I've noticed that I'm much slower with these and suppose snappy with the AMVR grip. I do use my wrist a lot and it felt clunky on these Kiwi grips. Maybe it'll feel better once my arm gets used to it.
Had the smaller kiwi one,, hard to wear because the small straps were hurting my hands, with those big one I have almost the same comfort as my valve index's controller, great product for me ^^
The Amazon reviews say that the buckles are blocking 2 sensors on the controllers. Did you run into that? That's what's making me hesitant to buy these. Would you use these or did you prefer the AMVR battery cover leather strap with the hair bungee grip?
This is a bit of a false understanding. There’s many sensors on the controller. Hiding two that face away from you most of the time isn’t going to harm tracking that much other than if playing competitively. I don’t use these. I found them too bulky. I continue to use my AMVR battery door grips with ProTubeVR pro straps attached to them.
As a man who finds it hard letting go of the trigger without it falling from my hands, this may be great as I'm very interested in valve index like products. The only question I have is I have no idea if my hands will fit in the controller strap. Other people say you need big hands to use the product, but I have no idea if my hands fit the bill. Is there any way of telling if this will work on my hands? Cheers.
Not really. They will certainly fit the grips. They are adjustable. It’s just for very small yards the grip might appear a little chunky. If the whole thing worries you too much. Maybe go for the smaller battery straps they do. They are still great and feel better to me.
I have bought these and found I definitely miss a lot more blocks on beat saber vs the controller in completely standard form! I am getting more and more used them and think potentially it's just an adjustment to a new way of holding them but currently don't feel I can play at the level I was before! Great for fitness based apps though like FitXR, nice reassurance that you're not going to throw it across the room!
@@jstarproductions7335 the sensors they cover are just for like hand movements in games because they’re touch sensitive, they’ll still work the same for games like beatsaber
I’d say no major advantage other than longer grips might help with best saber but they might make it harder in export and harder modes. Sword games and pistol shooters might increase immersion with the longer handle. Otherwise I would stick with the shorter grips.
My biggest question : My hands are actually small, but I want to buy this just cause its hand straps are like "valve's knuckles". Previous version's straps are bad compared to this :( Can't I still use it with ease?
If you have small hands, you might find these grips to feel a little chunky overall. The extra silicon adds bulk to the existing grip, plus the longer handle can make the lower end of the handle feel bigger and less grippy overall. Good thing there is the straps to help 'lock' you in, but it is worth pointing out. If you can get them off Amazon you can easily return them if they don't work out well for you.
I think another reviewer said it would be great except the strap & button on the top gets in the way of your thumb, similar to what you said. It’s a bummer cuz I bet these would be good for Beat Saber, since you can grip them at the bottom. But games where you use the joystick - probably not
Can you unbutton the side strap? If so I think you can use a small rubber band (preferably black) at the bottom, to keep the pull loops snug & out of the way
So not everyone likes the rubber feel on the back of their hands, this cover goes over the rubber strap to give it a smoother less grippy feel of the strap
Thanks for this review. I have the version before these ones and prefer them over these new ones. I don’t like the adjustment string that dangles on the side and the battery cover being part of the silicone cover. Also, as other people have already mentioned, they might not fit inside their quest case. Although, these definitely are a good option for people with shovel size hands though lol 👍🏼
Yes these aren’t for smaller, even medium sized hands. Not a fan of the lower thicker portion of the grip. I’m sure you could get used to it but it wasn’t for me either.
I'm confused about the battery compartment. My controller is built so that the whole side of the unit has to come off (a real pain in the a@@) each time to change the battery. Have they changed the controller so that only the battery area comes off (they way it should have been from the beginning)? Therefore, the Kiwi wouldn't work for me?
No, they have not changed the battery cover. It is still the same cover, you just take it off and replace the one that comes with this controller that gives you access to the battery inside.
Got mine today. But my controller settings in Beat Saber are now garbage. Anyone figure out any good settings? Love the grips otherwise. The weight is both a pro and a con, most likely something to just get used to.
These grips block two sensors at the front, right were those two nubs are. Also the AMVR grips block sensors with the attachment/strap to the halo.... anyone know of any better grips that dont block sensors?!
Both AMVR battery cover grips and ProTube Pro Straps have a way of attaching and not blocking any sensor ring emitters. But with that said, even if it does block two sensors that are likely the least used for tracking as they fire away from you, there’s plenty to fall back on for tracking and you’ll only be affected if you’re playing at an expert+ or professional level.
I disagree. I don't have particularly big hands but I have long fingers and find the regular controllers make my hands cramp up. These Kiwi ones are so much better! I can play for hours without getting hand cramps.
This bothers me and probably would have effected my decision when purchasing but I didn’t notice! every photo and video correctly illustrates this though. IME red is typically right and left is blue
