For me this is always happening at the ball ends of the strings. I recently solved this by moving from Ernie Ball Slinky's to Ernie Ball Paradigms. The paradigms are overwhelmed at the ball end of every string to prevent this issue. I made the switch about a month ago and so far so good.

  • @Wolf_K

On the second source of breaking…another “one weird trick”, for those with strings which don’t touch the screws like mine don’t, is to turn the ball ends sideways like - rather than 0 in the plate. I used to break the high e all the time and that’s after Mitchell’s, turned it sideways and I haven’t broke one since.

  • @hiroprotagonitis

For me, its definitely the gradual unwinding - turned the screws upside down and no burrs at the tailpiece eating through either!!

Best channel for offsets by far.
I took my vibrato apart and flipped the screws. As I did, I noticed another M7 screw underneath that was a countersunk flathead and had an idea. I took my vibrato to the drill press and countersunk the three holes from the front. The I purchased some stainless M7 flathead machine screws and put my vibrato back together. Screw interference eliminated.

I've always used D'Addario strings, but the XT's are extra great. I use them for all my guitars now. And they really do last longer. Worth the money imo. I didn't even realized the ends were tinned! I just tried them for the extra life. I figured as long as they felt good and sounded right, I'd give them a real shot. I'm really glad I did.

thats me right now with my JMJM. it just started. high e keeps unwinding and slipping, dropping the tuning . . so i keep tuning it up and the string gets tighter and tighter from slipping at the ball end, then BAM one good bend and it's over. It only JUST started to do this so i'm baffled as to why as i'm not doing anything differently. i use stringjoys and they are fantastic, but i will be getting some soldering supplies now lol and also gonna reverse that screw on the next string change.

Hiya Puisheen. I been watching your channel for a long time now. I trust your judgement and your videos on how to set up Jazzmasters are awesome.
I wish I knew a Luthier bear ne who fully understood the Jazzmaster vibrato systems. Bridges. String Gauges etc.
I been playing 3 years now and I always been drawn to Fende offsets.
I have a nice little collection now.
    J.mascis sig JM
Fender Am pro11 Dk knight JM
    Squire 70's vibe Jaguars.
    Fender Jagstang
    Kurt Cobain sig Jaguar.
    I'm left frustrated sometimes..
Like the Di knight panoramic tremelo... I thought this time round Fender would nail the vibrato after 70 years of trying!😁 but nope still not right.
The push pull dibt sound right.
    Yup it thickens your tone.
    They wasn't lieing..🤔
But not in a particularly nice way. The pickups in series indo love but push pull no.
I recently brought my 1st stratocaster. Anerican pro 11
HSS. that guitar I love to play.
It seems like fender get lazy.
All this years of experience a d knowledge but they still cut corners and we pay good ££ a d still have to troubleshoot.
    Sorry for the rant lol!😂
Yuo! Wisgmh you we're local for sure.⭐
Love the mods on Dk knight! The scratchplate space theme with the rocket ship switch is so cool.
    Love it.❤💙💜💚

Ever since I read about tinning strings in 2009 or so from the StewMac "Trade Secrets" book, most of the time, I've tinned (soldered) my string wraps by the ball end; I regretted when I did not. It just makes too much sense to avoid it; tuning stability is increased, and string life is increased. Wouldn't it help with a 12 string's tuning stability, too? I don't own one, so I don't know their often-touted tuning woes.

Heya Mike, super useful video, as always. I'm just wondering if you, or anyone else watching for that matter would see this as a viable option for Floyd Rose bridges also? It hasn't happened to me a lot, but on a few occasions I've found the plain strings have slipped out from the block as they have given away from the winding. Just to note too, I was told to leave a bit of the winding on my plain strings in order to increase grip, especially on the cheaper versions of the Floyd bridge

    • @Puisheen
      @Puisheen  2 года назад

I don't really have too much of a firm opinion on this, just so long as the winding doesn't interfere with the point of contact between the string and saddle.

    • @schmoofadoop
      @schmoofadoop 10 месяцев назад

Interesting, I would think that tip (leave some winding) would actually make things worse! Once you don't have the ball end on, the winding is just loose wrapped wire around the string itself, which would slip out now that you've clipped the ball end off... that doesn't make any sense to me at least.
I would stop doing that (if you haven't already, I realize I"m a year later on this reply) and instead just clean snip the string just past the winding all together. You should also remove and inspect the string blocks themselves... and ensure they are inserted properly. If they show any wear... replace them, they are cheap.
