  • Walking through how I set up my high pass filter to run in parallel with a mix. This way you can run any instruments through it and not just insert it on one channel.

Thanks for sharing, I have my HPF inserted on the spring verb channel, but i'm going to try this way so I have it across the board.

Thanks for sharing. So were you sending the signal of track 16 to springreverb/fx? If so was that the only channel? or also directly from the individual instruments.

All the instruments except for the bass and percussion were going to 16. The reverb was set up as a normal send for the instruments, but the return of the reverb was also being sent to 16. So I was filtering the instruments and reverb together, in parallel. So I used Aux 1 to send the instruments and reverb return to the filter. The reverb itself was on Aux 3 send. Hope that helps.

Nice demo. Thanks. So its essentially an additive hp eq as you are still hearing the original sound as well? Also in interested in why you inserted the eq in the parallel channel. Is there a difference than going from the send output to the eq then to a channel?

I’m using the eq from the mixer, it’s not an insert as such. I used it to counteract the effect of the filter at the highest position, 7.5 kHz. So that I could leave the filter on and parked in that position without it affecting the sound too much, to get rid of the resonance and some of the higher frequencies from the parallel path.

    Great great Great!
What do you use to record?
And what kind of filter? Is that a Westfinga one?
    Big thanks

Thanks. Yes, Westfinga filter. Not sure what you want to know about recording. I use Cubase for a DAW.

Good one. Do you know how tubbys etc had it setup to deal with resonance on all the classic dubplates?

No idea. Scientist is the man to ask. I haven’t talked to him since I gat this filter, but when he released his vst filter, he said to run it in as a send, so in parallel. We never got into how he gets the mix sounding good first.
