This might help some people, from chat gpt. If you experienced difficulty in removing the key from the ignition of your 2011 Ford Mustang automatic, it is possible that there could be an issue with the shift interlock system. The shift interlock system is designed to prevent the key from being removed if the vehicle is not in the "Park" position, ensuring the safety of the driver and others around the vehicle. Here are a few potential reasons why the key might get stuck and how you can troubleshoot the issue: Misalignment of the Gear Shift: Sometimes, the gear shift lever might not fully engage in the "Park" position even though it appears to be in that position. This can prevent the key from being released. To resolve this, make sure to firmly shift the gear lever into the "Park" position and try removing the key again. Faulty Brake Switch: The shift interlock system is also connected to the brake pedal. If the brake switch is malfunctioning, it might not send the correct signal to the shift interlock system, causing the key to get stuck. Check if your brake lights are working when you press the brake pedal. If they are not working, there might be an issue with the brake switch, which should be replaced by a qualified mechanic. Shift Interlock Solenoid Issue: The shift interlock system uses a solenoid to lock and unlock the gear shifter. If the solenoid is faulty or not receiving power, it may not release the gear shifter, and thus, the key will remain stuck. A qualified mechanic can diagnose and repair any issues with the shift interlock solenoid. Dead Battery: In some cases, if the vehicle's battery is low or dead, it can cause issues with the shift interlock system. Ensure that your battery is charged and in good condition. If you encounter this problem again, it is advisable to have your vehicle inspected by a certified mechanic or take it to a Ford dealership for a proper diagnosis and repair. They will have the expertise and equipment to identify the exact issue and ensure your vehicle's safety and functionality.
I see that you said the shifter you picked up was a 2012 and your car is 2011. I have a 2011 having the same exact issue. Does the fact that the 2012 shifter has P,R,N,D,S instead of P,R,N,D,3,2,1 cause any issues? Does it connect right up to the 2011? If so, what happens when you put it into S
Just traded my 08 civic for 09 and the mustang is a lil rough… dude obviously had a little fender bender… rigged 2015 taillights, and spray painted the rear and front bumpers and used regular screws and tie down to hold the rear… knowing this I still traded cus I drove the car and it drove straight and shifted fine.. now 2 biggest issues are the key is stuck in the ignition anddd the extreme smell of gas… I’m going to try this key solution but if anyone can tell me wtf that gas issue is pleaseeee… it’s not leaking so idk …
ok so the ignition problem is the safety switch in the shifter..if the shifter can shift into gear without the key then you have a broken shifter and the key will stick in the ignition. check all your fuel lines. check your charcoal canister in the mustang its under the car near the gas tank. looks like a black box

Hello I have the same issue but I was wondering if you know which sensor is connected to the gear shifter button??
most of the time its a interlock switch, replace the shifter

Honestly I didn’t even recognize that. I have to rewatch this video but I think I actually got the same exact shifter
Hell Yeah works perfectly thank you !!
I’m glad this helped buddy
@@Kingcustomz Wassupp Mann I got the same problem with my 2012 gt and I did the battery trick and it works but gets stuck right after
You need to get a gear selector, I’m sure even with your car off you can switch from park to drive
The button is stuck in downward position or the action is broken that it moves...
Heck yeah brother but now I got it running great
We got a new problem no taillights when the head lights are on
@@Kingcustomz Do you have access to all data?
No brother I do not. Not yet at least 😳😳😳
Hell Yeah working great thank you
Mine does the same thing but still wondering why the need to replace the whole shifter? Be nice to know what is wrong with the shifter.
for mine, the shifter was broken. even when the vehicle was off, I was able to move my shifter indicator into different gears

My son has the very same problem but how can I fix it without replacing the entire shifter?
It’s the shifter switch that goes bad. But replacing the shifter is something you might have to do. I don’t think they sell
The switch separately
