    There's only one thing better than seeing these diesels at speed...and that's driving them! I had the huge good fortune to drive HST's prior to my retirement and I never tired of the sound of a whistling Valenta engine under hard acceleration through the cutting north of St. Pancras and into Belsize tunnel.....

    • @andrewduffin9216
      @andrewduffin9216 7 месяцев назад +6

      Very few things are better than seeing a HST with Valentas at full flight. The scream as they fly by is amazing! I only wish I could have seen it in person (I'm in Australia). Gives me tingles watching the videos though.

    • @StarlifeStudios
      @StarlifeStudios  7 месяцев назад +2

      I agree! I wish I could record 4K60 and I am looking into this long term especially since the standard on RUclips is changing. 4K became the standard about 2 years ago and I believe a similar thing will happen soon for 60fps. Thank you for your criticism, I am always happy to hear it. 😃

      @@ie6338 I agree! The problem is most videos now use mobile phones or gimble devices both of which have bad zoom capabilities (4x if your lucky, I use 32x!) . I will likely have to get a DSLR or a Mirrorless Camera to overcome this but I may loose out on other features such as the sensor size. Basically, I am really keen to improve on everything but I wont upgrade to 4K 60fps if I'm not able to film in low light (as an example). Thank you.

      @@StarlifeStudios Your device camera settings may allow you to up the fps to 60, however this may affect some features, for example on my phone it disables the autofocus feature (a pretty dumb limitation imo, given that I cannot hazard any technical reason as to why this is done)

    There are quite a few instances of 80xs running through electrified lines on diesel mode. What's up with that?

    • @StarlifeStudios
      @StarlifeStudios  7 месяцев назад +2

      For Great Western and East Coast 800s, drivers have the ability to switch should there be an issue with the wires or train pantograph. In most of the cases, this is an issue with the train rather than the wires but the option is there to use either. For Prestonpans, all TPE 802 drivers are instructed to run using diesel due to the Power Supplies in this area not being stable enough to support any more electric trains.

    • @AnubhabKundu
      @AnubhabKundu 6 месяцев назад +2

      They should be brave enough to pay for their electricity bills man. If they cant replace the transformer with one having higher Mega Volt Ampere figures and also not invest in proper traction substations then the overhead equipment alone cannot help trains ditch the oily habit.

    KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu) Malaysia, since 2021 has been using 12 units DMU (Diesel Multi Unit) Class 61@ 4 Coaches made by CRRC Zhuzhou-China for its East Coast Rail Route (Jungle Line) from Gemas, Negeri Sembilan to Tumpat, Negeri Kelantan.
    The DMU61 Trainset has Top Speed of 140kph on single metre gauge track as long as 539km.

      @willydarmawan1978 Месяц назад

      Yeah that broader gauge rail really enabled higher speed rail. Even lao nih running regular service at 160 kmh in their newest route.
      It's too bad that in Indonesia (Java and sumatera) we are already heavily invested in narrow gauge configuration with operational limit at 120kmh. There's a hope with our newest non HSR line in Celebes using normal gauge configuration, but no service running at those speed atm.

    British diesel high-speed trains are generally fast. I think they are among the best in the world.
    Japanese diesel express trains have two 444HP (=331kw =450PS) engines per car. However, since Japan has many mountains and many gradients and curves, the maximum speed is 80mph (=130km/h).

      Do HSTs ever have a reason to go through Hampshire? I think the only unnelectrified lines in the county are the Heart of Wessex, Reading-Basingstoke, and North Downs, so your options would be... something like freight work or running as a replacement for a Voyager on a Cross-country service through Basingstoke, right?

    • @StarlifeStudios
      @StarlifeStudios  7 месяцев назад +2

      Good question! Let me explain that: So because speed is a formula of distance divided by time - you can use the length of the train which is available online and the time in seconds which it took to pass to estimate the speed, the rest is just visuals. Thanks for asking and I’m glad you took interest in this 😃👍🏻

    England has such a great, well-running railway network, so we can just shoot ourselves in Germany with our German railway. This is just plain disgusting. Replacement rail services everywhere, trains are constantly unpunctual, then there are not such beautiful trains as in England, such a great variety... everything used to be different here, similar to England, but everything is dilapidated.😢😂

    • @paulefc1971

      Surprisingly, a lot of British still see the German railways as the standard we should be achieving (Rail fares and train performance)

    Good video, in my country, most passenger trains travel slower, as the quality of the rails and infrastructure does not allow trains to go faster.
