I have a very similar problem with my 7.5hp. The contact points were pitted something terrible so I ordered new ones. They're on the way ($44.00/piece! Ugh!) So my question is you set that gap when the points are open correct? So rotate the prop until they open & then set the gap right? I just wondered so I know what to do when i receive my new points, thanks!
Is the point setting with throttle full open or closed?… Because I am trying to set them and it makes a big difference! Never done this before… new points are in already…
@@htssoutboardsboatstrains9784 OK? When the crank is at the high spot the points won't open far enough to fit a .02" gap with throttle closed/idle. But with the throttle open there is space enough for adjusting.
@@greghudson1489 ..Did you ever figure it out? I'm contemplating on doing mine. I always assumed if you turned the crank you could put your timing out.
@@locknload9143 I'm not sure. I installed/set the points, and put it all together but no start still. Lost my spark tester so had to order a new one. I'll get back to trouble-shooting sometime this week I hope.

Points setting isn't related to throttle setting, just crank rotation :)

That is 10g, but I have used 12 as well. Match up with your ignition system.
