II was 21 years old visiting NYC for the first time and saw my one and only Broadway Show called I Can Get It For You Wholesale. I still have the Playbill 60 years later.
You were SO lucky to see this show and Barbra as Miss Marmelstein. Was her performance as brilliant as reported?
@@edward311😊😊
What a soothing voice he has.
I love that he called her to tell her how wonderful she was!
I met him back in 1997 when I was working as a restaurant supervisor at the hotel he was staying at while doing a Broadway play in Indianapolis. Very nice and friendly.
He was in Mash in 1970 so 27 years later he was still a big star, not working in a restaurant
Elliot Gould is perfect for every role he plays. His Jack Gellar character is hysterical!!
A very touching memory of his first meeting his future wife, Barbra Streisand. Two wonderful talents who also produced a very talented son, Jason, who they did a very fine job raising.
They really did. He seems to be free of all the problems so many children of celebrities have.
Jason has a beautiful voice.
@@LeCrenn it's all about the upbringing!
They seem to have had a civilized divorce, and I understand she's invited him to some of her concerts in the last 20 or so years. It's too bad they can't come up with a script and do a movie together.
Life is not so easy for him.
Their son Jason looks like both of them. And sings great. Bless that young man
They seem so respectful towards one another, it's very touching to see
Wow ! A treat to hear Mr Gould tell the story.. so humble and honest and unaffected.
It would be nice to see them together on screen just for sentimental value...not as a couple, but just in something. They were a wonderful dynamic duo in the beginning of their careers.
I remember seeing photos of Barbara Streisand and Elliot Gould in the movie magazine Rona Barrett's Hollywood. Then photos of her carrying their son Jason. We are all soooo old.
I saw the play. He was good and she was great both in her singing and comic acting--a definite presence on stage.
I wish they had been on screen together.
Thankyou,my dad's mom was Yiddish, her maiden last name was Kleeman mean 'Clover man'.She passed when I was two.Nothing was ever said of her background. Three of my kin died in Daucha. From the bottom of an empaths poets heart I thank you.
I see so much of Both Barbra and Elliott in their Son , Jason !! He has become His own Star, and is so very talented !! With His parentage , How could He not be ??
He really comes across as a very sweet and genuine man. How nice!
Wonderful. I could listen to him all day.
Imagine meeting her. It would be such an honor. She is anazing
Awwwww......he seems a very very BEAUTIFUL person......so HUMBLE....
Always liked Gould, really a fine actor.
My dad, Albert Harary, and Elliot were good friends in Brooklyn through around 8th grade until Elliot went to a performing arts school to pursue an acting career.
It was meant to be! And you got the great Jason from it!
What a beautiful story!! I love hearing how couples met. It's magical💞
I love Elliott! He is a good guy!
What a lovely story! Thank you Mr. Gould!
Well, thank goodness, for excellent taste, an excellent ear, and the right timing. His power elevated one of the finest American artists we will ever know.
He’s a mench to the nth degree. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
And bully, for that memory! He must tell us what he eats and drinks, in addition to the circle of support and love from his family.
Elliott Gould's story about meeting Barbra Streisand is fascinating!
"I'll Tell the Man in the Street": my favorite Streisand song. Gould was doing leads on Broadway before Barbara.
My favorite as well before she got too staged. As for Gould, he said in the video he was in the chorus of Irma la Douce and was surprised to get the lead in Wholesale.
I love him in Ray Donovan
WOW now I know... and as they say and the rest is history! ♥️ 👍🏼👍🏼
He seems such a nice kind and understanding man!!
Barbra's such a stunning performer and so complementarily beautiful with it that sometimes you wonder how can she possibly be real ❤
This is so beautiful, so tender.
I hadn’t heard that story fro. His POV before. Thank you!
I would think Elliot and Barbra have an understanding of each other that few people share with either one of them. It is a pity that they couldn't see past their marital problems to make a movie or television special together. If she ever were to do "Gypsy", I think Elliot would be a great Herbie to Barbra's Rose.
according to barbara, her epitome of manliness, was her first husband, elliott gould.
The reason they have never made a movie together has nothing to do with any personal problems. They‘ve just never found a script that both of them liked (they both said so)
@@mariaalano3077 when did she say this? 🤔
He would be a great Herbie
…and Larry Storch (age 99) as Poppa!
He is so kind and lovely.... he was one of my first crushes... ;-)
One of mine as well
I love his hairy chest and vulnerability. I wish he would come back to broadway. Tevya maybe?
Oh no 🤦🏻♂️
Me, too. :)
Yes, he is a kind soul.
Elliot is such a cool guy.
My favorite actor
One of the best in Hollywood
Such a shame they were never on screen together!! Xxo
A wonderful insight.
Any visiting NY should stand in line for off Broadway tickets. My first show was Once Upon A Mattress. The experience is unforgettable.
Thanks for sharing. Sweet.
I had read that Barbra got a phone for her new apt and gave her number to Elliot and asked him to call her.
My favourite in friends
He was a very cute guy! No wonder Barbra fell for him! :D
Sweet story.
Elliot was great in Capricorn One. A must see movie!!!
I love that Fulper lamp in the background
It's too bad he and Barbra didn't make their marriage work. They're both brilliant and have had long careers.
Stuff happens along the way when you have two very talented people who are also trying to establish their careers. That her career really took off ahead of his in a really spectacular way, I suspect made for tension (as well as separation as she started making movies in addition to her recording career and TV appearances). They seem to have a respect for each other and have remained friendly (He's been seen attending her public performances with Jason...how many ex husbands would do that!)
@@balesjo Stuff happens? No stuff doesn't happen. It's very clear and been well-publicized exactly why they divorced. She cheated on him with Warren Beatty. Warren then cheated on her with Julie Christie (Shampoo). Her addiction to marijuana didn't help matters either. Julia Phillips 1991 "You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town" called her a pothead. So, this has all been confirmed.
@@OriginalTweetMaxine The cheating. And the pot -- I mean, God bless her, but THAT stuff? So common.
@@OriginalTweetMaxine i thought it was because of the affair with Omar Sharif
@@bonniesteel1269 Me, too. I didn’t know about Warren Beatty, but I think everyone knew about Omar Sharif. They were both so young, with such big lives, sudden fame and success, and then a baby. Most young marriages couldn’t survive all that.
It's odd that the description leaves out the minor detail that Gould and Streisand later married and had a child together.
Both from Brooklyn but went to different high schools. Barbie went to school with Neil Diamond
A good guy.
Oh gosh. I would have called her too.
Let’s get them on screen together! Would that be impossible?
The song " el perdón " by diana Navarro
Mr. Ghould or anyone else who might know the answer...
The character that you played in I Can Get It For You Wholesale, was Harry Bogen.
In 1979 you were in The Muppet Movie as the announcer in Miss Piggy's beauty contest scene.
(I'm getting there)
I'm sure by it's by no coincidence that the name of the town is Bogenville.
How did this come to be for the movie?
Gould
Come on, you know it is Barbra.
He was good as Harold Sheinfield on E/R 1984
Lovely guy
And together they created a HOT son.
Are you kidding?
I must say I've never noticed him, but then, I try to avoid all the blather about Hollywood.
@Jarred Knox - That's your subjective opinion. My opinion of Jason is that he is very handsome and HOT. 🔥 🔥 🔥. He's also very talented and just an all around mensch of a human being.
Hot son ?????? Sweet and talented .... I saw him coming out of a movie theater in 2001 in nyc all by himself. Trust me not hot 🥵. Abut I wish the weather was hot 🥵 right now. Be well.
@@srobindittrich6599 : "subjective opinion" is redundant; all opinions are subjective by definition
ENJOY! . I always loved Elliott Gould ... y favorite role was a 977 A Bridge Too Far Col. Bobby Stout ... Original Broadway Cast - I Can Get It for You Wholesale (Full Album) ~ ruclips.net/video/z_DU6tJBWoc/видео.html
Wow. That's beautiful ❤️🤟🐬
Isn't there more?
This would've been, what, 1961 or so? By 1963, the year I was born, she was already a big breakout star.
He looks just like my uncle
I thought or read that they were graduates from the same high school in New York.
❤️❤️
I wonder if they ever talk to eachother 🤔
He seems a very quiet ordinary man!!
i thought we'd get to hear elliot's yiddish.
He Jay walked in front of me 50 yrs ago
Sound Sound Sound CHECK 1 2 3???

Oceans 11
The "other" Jewish musical.
I like it much better than Fiddler on the Roof
Streisand is my hero
She threw away a good man!
Good Lord. Imagine every what every waiter had to go through serving those two.
Did she ruin him?
