E46 M3 thoughts after 3 years.

- It's closer to 4 years I've owned the E46 now so an update video was required! The road noise inside isn't picked up that well by the microphone (but you can hear it struggling when I talk!)
Overall a much more capable car since we last spoke about it in 2018.

Glad you thought that. No way would you have been able to hear me with the old setup! Just need to tweak the camera settings now

Enjoy the m3 man, and you also have previous experience with the e36 chassis so you know how to improve it and the common faults.

Same mate, dream car. I have mine '06 Silver Grey MT Comp pack. And like you I'm on my journey to build it to my spec. Enjoy it man, they dont make them like this anymore. Keep the content coming, love the work and the videos. Estoril is also mega rare here in Canada/US.

2 years ago I brought a Porsche 987 cayman s the one in my profile pic!!! I absolutely love it, I recommend you drive one!!! I’m hooked on Porsche now..

Hey Danny.🖐 Sorry I'm late. Yesterday was my last day at work for this year and it was a busy'n, so I saved this video for the mornin'. Gotta kick off the Christmas break proper, ya know.👍😉 Yeah man, that M3 is a great car, the best colour going, and I'm glad you decided to modify it to suit your driving style. I'm sure the 4.1 made all the difference. I remember many moons ago, I asked you about your attainable dream car and this one was on that list, Estoril Blue and all. It ain't the latest and greatest (by the numbers), but I respect a man who knows what he likes and stays the course until he gets it. Your E46 M3 in its current form, appears to have all it needs to plant a smile on your face when driven hard and as you've proven, a very capable machine in the right hands. The newer cars in general may be quicker, but with a bunch of bright screens and nannies intervening at all the wrong times.😝 As for the mystery twang up front, good luck on the fix. I know you'll get it sorted... you always do. Like you said, every day is a school day.😁 Thanks for the update (that mic is nice, btw). Just a thought, but if you do some reviews, maybe you could arrange a visit with the good lads at HCR. Car looks rad now, didn't really care much for the E46 3 series before but after seeing this and how it's progressed i'm completely on board. Also looking forward to any potential reviews you do on other cars 👍

Great video dan, I also live in yorkshire and used to love driving my silver grey E46 M3 up on the country roads. I never modded mine to the level you are at though. (just brakes, suspension and a map). I do miss the E46 is was quite special but not sure I could live with that level of noise. lol

A video I’ve been waiting for. The E46 M3 has to be one of my favourite BMWs. Would love to get my hands on a manual Dakar Yellow or Imola Red one at some point in my life which looks less and less like it’s gonna happen. Cheers for the video too, getting me nicely through covid.

Great update on this car man. Been following your build for a while just always forget to sub. (done) regarding your "Twang" noise I had something similar happening with my e46M. it was driving me nuts since I daily drive it. Everything in the rear of mine is New like you as well. It ended up being the rear sway bar end links! Its hard to tell visually but I have Eibach Sways front and rear but it uses the oem rear sway link. I ended up needing to tighten the bolts on the endlink's on both sides and the sound went away. Hope this helps you out!

My E46 parking sensors work fine by the way.

i responded to that email back in the day. i had a sketchy cheap GT86 at the time. they've held their price well. shocking engine but great dynamics. sold it now. it had been in multiple smashes lol

My dream is an M2CS which I hope to own one day. I never thought I would own an M140i, but hard work has paid off :-)
I’ve covered the area under the rear bench with lightweight sound deadening and fitted an MDF rear seat delete kit. Much better regarding the cabin noise, I have got the rear “door” card panels fitted in mine though. I reckon 20-25kg extra weight maximum. Worth it for the difference it makes
I have a real urge to do the same to my E36 328,recaros/cage an strip it out abit. Your m3 is wicked 👍🏼

Quality review of a quality car. I have one also and your opinion of the gearbox was spot on. Its not a pleasure to use and you have to learn to use it but only the way it wants you to. Also I noticed your door trim needs glueing back. That or new they're over 100quid each.

Yeah just glue it leave it clamped up over night worked for me. I think BMW want 120 a side for them new

I had the same Twang sounds on my Tein Monoflex on my Impreza Spec C. A little more preload on the coilovers and I also added these silicone sleeves that go around the top few coils of the springs. It did the trick but I dont know which one it was that fixed it as I did the two things together. Ultimately there was unnecesary movement in the springs.

I've wanted one of these E46's for ages now, should have done it when the prices were sensible but they're going silly now. My sensible head over ruled my heart (first time in my 32 years of car driving) and i've kept my E92 330d which i've refreshed everything underneath. One day i'll just say fuck it and get another M3 probably. Yours is perfect on the outside but I'm getting too old for stripped out noisy interiors these days so i wouldn't be stripping one out.

You change up a bit early when you start to chase the 235i, he/she obviously hears the threat from your high revving motorsport engine & uses the extra low down torque the twin turbos provides to pull away from you.
I don’t obviously endorse racing on the public highway.

You're right about the modern cars and their power. It's too much. I had an BMW F80 M3, don't get me wrong. It was amazing, but really murdery :D. I'm thinking to go M2 or E46 M3 like you.

Not sure if it's beeb mentioned but a rear bulkhead/seat delete made a big difference making mine abit quieter and its loud with a full supersprint lightweight race system.
I've 330 shifter with F10 M5 knob too and I don't like it at all to be honest as really easy to miss 3rd. Tried a friend's rtd shifter and found it nice.
Lovely M3 and I'm exactly the same, I think the only cars that I'd swap for mine without missing it would be an a modded or at least improved a little E30 M3 or 911 GT3rs

Just put poly bushings in my diff cover (Revshift) seems good / tight and cheaper than buying the whole plate. Also took rear seat out temporarily for a weekend - the noise is crazy. Couldn't live like that

My mates got an e46 325i with the smg trans ive driven it a few times the e46 chassis is phenomenal such a easy car to send he gives my trouble in my first gen legacy turbo on the backroads ands it only 190hp haha.

Check your anti-roll bar bushes dude. Had exactly the same issue on my Accord, turned out the roll bars had gone slightly crusty inside the bushes, so when they loaded up they sorta binded up in the bush then suddenly "jumped" round. Sanded and painted the roll bar, greased the bushes and all is well.

Awesome car dan. What’s your opinion on the e92 v8 m3? Got the itch for something rear wheel drive track focused... it’s a toss up between the 46 and the 92.
I had a similar clunk - turned out to be the drop links. Had to tighten them when both wheels were on the ground.. when one was lifted up it was ‘tight’ only because of the sway bar.... just a thought
E92 M3 is a beast on the track. If you do the same modifications you done on the E46 M3 it will be unbeatable.

Dunno if I should go for something like the bilstein b12 kit or some coilovers be a bit more spendy bcs or kw v2s.

M8 thick steering wheels are the best! I had an E46 330i Touring M-Sport which has the same steering wheel as the M3 and i fuckin loved it!
Mic sounds good, just turn the gain down a little to stop it clipping 👍🏼

Hey Danny, great vid. Very youtube at the end there saying we should ask questions. ;-) I know you've posted it before, but I can't find which parts you replaced in the shifter asembly to tighten it up. can you tell me what you changed? The mic is great, but I think the camera is best on manual focus, on auto its constantly putting you in and out of focus and is a little distracting. Thanks for the content, wish I had the confidence to skid mine about like you do.
