Hey Danny. It's so nice to be able to be in the situation you're in... owning a nearly stock M3 and having a friend with one done up similar to your tastes. Sort of a try it before you buy it scenario. Patrick's M3 is pretty sweet, no doubt. The rear boot on his car is just my style.👌 I know you will make this car your own and you should!👍 When I was younger, I immediately went for the intake, header, and exhaust. But being older and wiser, my first mods (you've already got the seat) would be brakes, wheels/tires, suspension mods, and more aggressive final drive instead. Good to see you still enjoying the M3 and starting to make it even more to your liking. Have a great weekend, mate!✌

Before I'd have been in a rush to make it louder, now I know that stuff can wait. I'd rather spend my money on making it drive better. 👌

Non-standard E46 M3 exhausts always sound like they have a loose heat shield.

Good video. My old car, glad to be seeing it used properly! It started out stock like yours, and was slowly built into a useable daily track car, I hate fully stripped cars on the road so always try and build clubsport cars. Luckily out in german the roads are a lot smoother, but the coilovers and arbs are adjustable so can be wound right off for those roads pretty easy as I had them most of the time when I lived in scotland with it.
+alister robertson It drove lovely! Just horrible roads to be testing a car like that. Hopefully I can get a go in it at the track next month 😊 As you built this, do you have any regrets or things you wish you'd done differently?
regrets...selling it haha. I would have gone for öhlins over bilstein eventually. They are able to cope much better both road and ring and having driven them can cope with high speed bump better to so curb hoping becomes much more comfortable. I would also have tried some trofeos or and seen how they ran, but I had the 888's left over from the race car so I was just running them out. Other than that no, it was spot on for autobahn and daily use but would be great fun on the ring too, it wasnt about building the ultimate track tool, just something more useable than my old csl.
+alister robertson sounds like you took the route that I'm aiming for dude! Will be slow progress for me though. CSL, must be nice 😅 apart from the gearbox I guess..
DannyDC2 SMG box is nowhere near as bad as the internet would have you believe. Yes, it's a bit clunky and dim witted when doing manoeuvres like 3 point turn but when you're really on it, it's fine. CSL software sorts the bugs out anyway.
alister robertson how much did the wrap cost? It looks really nice on the video 👍🏽I’m in 2 minds because there’s a few bits I want touching in from inconsiderate supermarket car park markers who jump out from behind bushes as soon as you’re bored in the store😝 but I’m considering a wrap because I haven’t had one done and I’ve read it can be peeled off in 4-5 years time and your paints in tact is that true? 🤷🏽♂️😁

James Bagguley they don't replace the ITBs, it's just how the air is routed to them. All M3s have ITBs from the factory 😉
Oh cool, like a sort of plenum/cai scoop thingy? Factory ITB' s = win! :D
Shift manager at previous job had an E46 M3, black/deep purplish, with the red interior, always coveted it but couldn't stump up 6K when he came to sell...

Hey Danny, just found your channel and I have really been enjoying your content. I appreciate how modest and real you are when it comes to your car mods, when a lot of youtubers these days just get and exhaust and wrap their car to show off. One suggestion for you, when you're driving, I think it would be a great idea to set a GoPro looking forwards so we can see the beautiful roads you're driving on, as well as your skill in traversing them. Anyways, keep the great content coming man! Cheers.

KW club sport, AP brakes, Geoff Steel air box & CSL reflash are all you need to go with the square set-up. As you say, no rush though, as you've got the TEG. Some people said I ruined my M3 with mods but a) it's my car and b) I drive it most days and absolutely love the thing, so it's all the better for my making it more special and suited to my needs it's not a car I plan selling anyway.
Both sweet M3s, massive fan of Patrick's old techno sport with red leather too.

Two fine examples of bmws done 2 different ways. Not everyone likes bmw but if you're a car person you have to admit there pure pedigree. They've used itbs on dam near every m car since old days. They used race engines in several road going cars. Hands down one of the best exhaust notes ever, love me a straight six done right. But maybe I'm just a sucker for bmws with bbs's. Another great video. Dam walls and tunnels are so tempting hunh.

Great video, interesting you said about head gasket problems, my mates E46 M3 head gasket went recently - just after he bought the car. The block (cast iron) cracked due to the hot gasses passing through the bit where the gasket failed. It happened to me before with a a classic mini too. I think you'd be wise to do it as preventative maintenance, it's much cheaper than having to source a new block and do a full rebuild!
+Daniel Griffiths yeah there's an upgraded gasket you can get so once it's done it's done!
You pay the money, you do what you want. That's my opinion. If it were me I would have it slightly more track focused but without losing too many comforts. Then again a full race M3 would be mental
I'm running KW Clubsports and Eibach arb's and rear adjustable arms- new everything and running basically full CSL spec in looks/airbox/wheels/roof/interior aswell- it's a very fast road spec car - so much different to stock

Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales is classed as the best road in the country its only 5.5 miles long. You should check it out.

I know you wanted a Laguna seca blue one, but if you're going to modify it as kind of a street/track car you should consider doing some sort of wrap on it to protect the original paint if you ever want to put it back to original spec
headers, exhaust, intake, coilovers, big brakes with vented and drilled disks and 6 pot callipers, strut braces front and rear, chassis braces under the car, stiffer control arms and anti roll bars, LSD, lightened flywheel, billet driveshaft, carbon fibre propshaft, CSL wheels, r888r tyres

That car has track mode enabled. It comes from the csl and It basically allowed a little about of slip before it saves you. I think you can get it on your car dan but check to see what abs module you have as if it's the older one then you can't have it. Also u need the 3.91 ratio diff. Makes a massive difference and you will love it.
I wouldn't want it mate, the track mode. Rather have it on or off! Also I'm looking at the 4.1 ;)
Can you please do a vid or explanation of how that gear shifter was installed - I wish go install a shifter from the m140i in to my manual e46 m3 but I don't if it is possible. Thanns
Nothing wrong with modding it....just keep the standard parts! That's what I've always done. I always work off the theory that if they come off so should generally go back on 😂
I think they will be 15-20k one day even with mods. Its an iconic car. If the mods are quality and improving then I can't see a problem. Better brakes, suspension, exhaust and seats aint all bad.
They already are that price and above for some properly sorted ones.

If this was my car I probably would modify it sooner rather than later. However I wouldn't go that far just yet. Just some really high quality coilovers, set fairly soft, some nice wheels and tyres (square) and some ambers like every E46 should have. As well as the purple tag like you mentioned. I wouldn't go as far as to strip interior or anything or do a major amount to the S54
+Dan H the OEM suspension isn't so bad! I feel the need to lap it around the ring on the factory shocks. I bet it would ride the curbs lovely.

I seen many of youre videos now. And how would you eksplain using the 996 calipter in front and std rear. I thinking about balanse in the car and brake capasiti. Did they ever go warm? Hope you remember or have a link to a video that i have missed.
Stock rear brakes are fine. I have with AP front stock rear now

I think I'm going off the sound of these M3's which is sad because used to love it, might just be this exhaust though

A lot of BMW's have seats that offset a little to the right. I think the aftermarket seat just exaggerates the offset a bit more than usual. My E46 318ci offsets a little to the right as well as my friends E90 320d
+saenskk3 the seat rails in my E36 fix this issue, hopefully the new ones for the M3 do the same!
That color combo is too rare to modify if keep stock as possible one day that color will be one of the more desirable ones

I think it's fine to mod, I would upgrade sway bars, coil overs, bushings if it needs, CSL intake, exhaust wheel and tires. Keep it simple
+Michael Broski I will prefer to just modify things that annoy me and build a good road car. See where that goes. No rush to buy coilovers if I don't need them for example. Would rather spend money on preventive maintenance

I don't normally either tbh. There was a SICK EK9 in there on ITBs with Hybrid Racing stuff all over it though which was a bonus.

That’s weird, I have pss9’ coilovers too but they’re more comfortable then stock. Maybe your friend changed out to stiffer springs.

That thing is cool but you you have your ITR to play with. Also you should be more worried about vanos bolts shearing and solenoid pack failure or rod bearing wear in your S54.
+presteronetj yup, rod bearings would definitely get done before it saw track. I said at the end of the video it isn't happening anytime soon anyway.

Regarding suspension I have KW V2 coilovers on my 2005 M3 and I'd say in a soft-ish setting they are similar to stock suspension, which I always thought was pretty stiff compared to say an E92 M3. Can't fault them though.
Nice coilovers + Pole Positions + Purple Tag rack + polybushed all around + carbon airbox and you got yourself a perfect blend of road usability and track performance IMO. Not convinced a square set up for UK roads is the way forward though.
Also this dude's car sounds a bit too raspy I think. Stock exhaust plus carbon airbox should be awesome though.
+sukhoi350 I certainly won't be polybushing everything, the little bit of give rubber has on the road makes a massive difference. I've been looking at KW coilovers but think I will stick it out with the factory stuff for now. Reducing ride height is not important at the moment either.
I quite like the sound of the OEM setup, carbon airbox will be lovely one day but it's not high on my list
Fair enough but I can't begin to describe how much more rigid and sharper the car feels polybushed. Personally I've noticed no difference in comfort although I too was pretty worried at the time when I decided to do it. No regrets though and I use my car daily all the time. Some people might say it makes more road noise but I haven't noticed anything using Powerflex black series bushes. Especially when you hit a bump mid-corner. It stays planted.

Hold your traction button down for at least 3 seconds that should "FULLY" disable it. The handbrake light turns orange to confirm. Doesn't matter that its pre face mate

Isn't your M3 worth 15k now Dan? I thought that's what the market was at when I looked a few months ago. Also what do you prefer on UK B roads, FWD or RWD? I'm trying to decide between an RS Clio, CTR, E36 328i or a 130i.
Nah not quite, over 100k on the clocks so more like 10-12 tops. Or maybe if it was original and there weren't videos of it being driven properly on the internet. 😅
I don't rate the earlier 1 series. They feel very understeery for some reason. Maybe I need to drive a better one. Small and nimble is what you want for a ultimate B road car. The EG was awesome. The E36 is great but a hot hatch is slightly better IMO. I'd like to have a go in a GT86 down a B road.
DannyDC2 Haha as long as you keep all the standard bits and maintain it well I don't think it's much of a problem tbh.
Thanks, yeah small and nimble cars are perfect for B roads. I haven't driven RWD yet so that might make my decision, lose some of that nimbleness for some skidding fun! Maybe one of your viewers has a GT86. 😅

hi quick tip, buy a variable ND Filter cost like 15-20 bucks. Your picture/video will look much better because the sky isn't totally overexposed. You can also use it with a smartphone^^.
I'll take a look, all my videos are filmed with polarising filter on.
Danny, Aliexpress sell cupholders for the m3 for around £15 or so. They're just the same as oem ones but cheaper.
Are they decent quality? May have to take a gamble on those. Love a bargain!
I've been told they're decent, money wise. Ive got a different one for my e36 and it's fine. Considering it was under 10 pounds

Don't go to the extreme of the white car as it needs a new identity from its life next to the ring imo. Some good ideas for you in some areas though. It's currently to bumpy for U.K roads (even the good roads are crap) and you thought it was to loud for track days. So where do you use it!
+PT82 it pretty much is just a Nurburgring car at the moment but Patrick did say he was going to change that so it's usable on UK tracks.
Sunroofs are okay on shopping cars, track/race cars NO :)

E46 M3 has always been a halo car for me but I could never afford a toy like that. Unless I was going to track it I would leave it stock straight out of the box there's enough car there for the road I know everyone says stuff the resale value but a stock well maintained car is always going to command more £££ if you ever want to trade up in the future.

Sounds too raspy from behind induction noise is intoxicating tho surprised for ring tool he didnt do catless headers...
