    But what is 'the torso method'..?

      Like a lot of the Taijiquan traditions, the same term may be used to mean somewhat different things, but in the tradition I'm referring to, there are two components to the engine, the Torso Method/Mechanism (responsible for the power classified as Ba Fa / Ba Men like Peng, Lu, Ji, An etc.) and the Limb Method/Mechanism responsible for the 5 Paths/Steps/Configurations. The training drill in this video is actively engaging the former mechanism (while the latter mechanism is passively used of course, after all, this is Taijiquan - many facets to the Yin/Yang separation and balance thereof).
