I only recently seen your channel and am working my way through some videos. I sympathise wholly with what you are saying. I too have become a bit annoyed with many channels and videos that are intent on showing only bad things. Even Russians do it themselves because, as you say, they know they will get more views etc. But, personally, I much more appreciate what you are doing and I admire your honesty and integrity. Keep it going my friend. I have never been to Russia, but do want to go some time. I have though, been to Ukraine quite a few times.

Yes, there is entertainment, and money one imagines, to be found in the downtrodden, babushka laden soviet structure videos. But, genuine reality from far away can be quite appealing and weirdly therapeutic. I very much enjoy your work as is, with possible exception of increased regularity of posting videos. I do realize that time is money and money is money, but my optimistic, idealistic nature tells me you'll do very well if you continue to do what you enjoy the way you wish to do it.

What annoys me is when these people play it off as if they are trying to film the good stuff but that this is all Russia has to offer, instead of being honest and saying that they are deliberately seeking the worst and most shocking content. @@SamsRussianAdventures I am in North Carolina. Growing up in the American south makes the increased upheaval, unrest, complete lack of civility and respect abounding here so hard to take. We southerners, though much maligned and misrepresented, by and large grow up with moral fiber, generosity, and a healthy open the door for people, no ma'am and sir sensibility. The only hesitation I would have about a Russia relocation would be my inherent talkative, smile, eye contact nature. Russians are a bit reserved about said things, correct?

A very long time ago, I would dream of building a house and the cost would be no obstacle. I sketched floor plans and from my limited experience I realized that in reality I should make every room twice as large. Especially the toilet and bathroom to be large enough to hold a small party, the one place we’re always forced to bump our elbows on the walls. That’s just me. What you showed us of your house looks spacious and roomy with nice views. I hope you’ll have a lot of happiness there.
Thanks Douglas. For me location is so important. I searched for a couple of years. I found some nice plots but they were all a long way from the city. This one had great views and also only 5km from the city. It took a year of haggling with the owner but eventually she gave in. It will be great when it's all done.
I hate poverty porn. I'm sooo sick of seeing countries in the global south, countries like Russia, China, Vietnam, Iran etc, always portrayed as poor hellholes.. I'm tired of seeing the people being shown like zoo animals, or beggars trying to make a buck. I personally being Black find this offensive. From a political perspective these type of videos also promote imperialistic ideas. How Western countries should "lord over the eastern countries" etc..
Completely agree. As a males youtuber who blogs about Russia, it’s a very difficult choice to make. I can’t rely on my good looks to get me subscribers. The only way for my channel to grow is to show the worst and play it off as the norm.

I also want people to see the issues involving immigration, and how all of this with Donald Trump stoked racism.. Basically want to show theirs nothing to fear lool. A few years ago in 2016. I played this game where Trump said ISIS was at the border. I did live video feed in saying Lets find ISIS, Hmm no ISIS here. Even had a few Muslims, and jokingly said Holy fuck is this ISIS???!!! Не нарадуюсь переменам к лучшему, нацпроекты здорово шуруют-орудуют (я уж и сам стал забывать, как это было в 90-е -- 00-, помню что страшно, как страшный сон; с помощью канала "РБС" (Россия: Было -- Стало") иной раз возвращаюсь в те годы, и вижу разительные перемены. You can build whatever you can afford. I can assume there is no association that dictates the size of the buildings or what they look like. I live in a townhouse. I pay $151 a month just to pay for the privilege of living here. My association has rules on what areas can be seen.
Yes, it’s a cinder block type material called ytonga. In gated communities we have a charge, for the upkeep, security and use of amenities. But ours isn’t a gated community. Each road just decided to put its own barrier on it! It’s probably illegal as it’s a public road!!!!

Sam I know it is frustrating with all the hard work you have put into it and the results are not there. I know 200 videos look like a lot of videos but I watch some here in the US and they have maybe 1k videos. Have you thought about doing a joint adventure with another vlogger? Have you reached out to a vlogger who has maybe 20k or 30k subscribers? Have you tried reaching out to "Backyard Russia"? He is from Australia. He is married with two small children. He and his wife is Studying Russia. He lives in Siberia Russia. He has carpentry and mechanical skills. He has about 11.6 k subscribers.
I saw his channel and I really enjoy it. I love the romantic storyline of his family, moving to Russia to open a farm. It’s a possibility. They live a few thousand miles from me though. Thanks for your suggestion though. It’s something I’m looking into.

Там и теперь так же. Ну и совсем новые строения (правда, обычно если это целостный проект, типа коттеджного поселка) тоже нередко обходятся без высокозабористости. Но мне, кстати, так неуютно (мой двор - мой взор)) * А, видел и в Англии (и в Канаде) много высоких заборов, даже удивился (видел на гугл-мапах и видосах, сам дотуда не доехал))
Про эмоции: возьмем в пример Сабрину. Она так мило сердится, когда не может сформулировать мысль 😀 Как ребенок даже ножкой топает. Конечно, Вы - взрослый мужчина, а не молоденькая девушка. Ищите "своё". Самое главное - будьте искренни!!!
@@SamsRussianAdventures , да , газ удобней всего . я не знаю как у вас , у меня под Вышним Волочком в поселке напряжение скачет , из-за этого газовый котел может выйти из строя. Обязательно купи стабилизатор напряжения на 220 В. У меня итальянский котел Бакси , пока не поставил стабилизатор сгорела плата с мозгами. Кроме того могут вырубить свет из-за обрыва проводов зимой или в ураган. Неплохо иметь еще какой либо подогрев. Печку например. Почаще приезжай на стройку , лучше все контролировать самому. Держи в курсе по стройке , чаще выкладывай видео!
Я могу предположить, что вашей аудитории интересно сравнение. Не обязательно даже с тем местом где вы жили. Не обязательно сравнивать в стиле Плохое или Хорошее. Сравнивать можно всё. Я вот слышал, что американцы(хоть вы и не оттуда). Руки моют перед едой, но не моют приходя с улицы, ходят дома не босиком и не в тапочках, а в уличной обуви. Об этом можно рассказать, может истории из жизни, как вы к этому относитесь. И раскрыть миф ли это или нет. Это просто пример темы. Таких тем может быть очень много: от фильмов и языка, до общения с продовцами, качество и виды продуктов, досуг детям, музыка, свобода слова, больница, интервью или разговор про сложности на стройке или со строителями и т.д. И всё это в объективной сравнительной форме. И даже если у вас не полный опыт или правильное представление о теме, то обратгая связь с зрителями обеспечена. Плюс, я вижу, что у других подобных видео есть в ролике тема конкретного видео. Или есть ролики на определенные темы и параллельно есть влоги, но нужно разграничивать, чтоб было понятно, где тема, а где влог(например присваевать номер влога и краткое описание).. п.с. Я не учу, а просто пытаюсь вам предложить вариант, анализируя других блогеров. Потому что у вас качественный контент. Тот же канал Нурии есть, у неё нет Плохо или Хорошо, а есть опыт, как это её меняет и т.д.
If you're making content because you want to show Russia, keep doing what you're doing. If you want to make money, sell out. I don't think there's anything wrong with people showing to gritty stuff to get more views, but it's more like TV entertainment than actual life.

Sam, I stumbled across your channel last night. You have some great content and I would say as a brit living in Ukraine, show the audience what you'd like to show them about Russia. The honest thing about every country is, it has a good and a bad side. If there's some "interesting" locals doing something peculiar then why not film it? I can understand your local friends don't think this is a good representation of Russia but what are you trying to represent? Not all Russians can afford to build a big house, some people live poor, some are homeless, some are mega rich. It's a mixture of both, even in the UK there are many people with problems, homelessness is real all around the world. So, what I'm trying to say is don't feel your content should be controlled by anyone but yourself. You have lived in Russia for a long time and love the country, maybe that doesn't fit well with other peoples views but who are they to try control or stop you? This channel is your understanding of mother Russia and let it stay that way. удачи!!
Thanks Joshua, what I’m saying is that most foreigners expect Russia to be run down so if I show the opposite I don’t meet their expectations. I film a bit of everything because everywhere here is full of contrasts. Those who film the run down areas and pretend that they are basically the norm are the ones who get the views.

Проблем, безусловно, много (и некоторые на них зацикливаются, кто за гранты, кто из узости мышления, кто веря в силу обличений, -- первых ненавижу, вторых жалею, третьих уважаю, но всё равно с ними не согласен, ибо лучше всего -- объективность). В порядке объективности: хоть и бездомные у нас тоже есть, но весьма немного (например, волонтерская группа "Рассвет" в Воронеже при раздаче подарков или бесплатной еды даже зимой набирает максимум человек 30 "заглянувших", причем некоторые не бездомные, а мимоходом берут чаёк погреться, и "поговорить с интересными людьми"; плюс приют где-то человек 100 принимает. Для города с населением больше миллиона это, по-моему, капля в море. Я помню, когда бездомных было действительно немало (в 90-е и начале 00-х) (у нас бездомных часто называют "бомжами", от "БОМЖ" аббревиатура, которая означает "Без Определенного Места Жительства", так в протоколах писали). Теперь крайне редко можно встретить (теперь в подвалах живут коты))
Пример "хорошего" канала о взгляде иностранца - "Когда ты Нурия". Название канала само по себе глубокое, заставляющее задуматься. И Нурия - думающая, глубокая девушка. Она много анализирует, и заставляет задуматься над привычными "незаметными" вещами. Импонирует её любовь к России. Это не значит, что нужно делать льстивые приторно-елейные ролики. Говорите о недостатках! Говорите о том, что кажется странным, глупым, неудобным. НО говорите с уважением к стране и людям. Чтобы у зрителя не было ощущения, что его тыкают носом в недостатки, как тыкают носом в лужу мочи нассавшего кота.

Лось тоже зверь серьезный (хотя видел фотки из нескольких городов, где лоси просто "заходят в гости", лежат в песочницах, а люди ходят себе мимо, -- хоть, конечно, лосей надо бы из города выдворять, кто знает, о чем сохатый думает, под рогами не видно)). У нас в Воронеже прямо в город порой кони заходят, коровы. один заяц до центральной площади доскакал, прыгал вокруг Ленина)). Косули бывают, лисы (вот это небезопасно: могут быть бешеными, как раз, увы, самые ласковые( Есть и неприятные создания: волко-псы (под Рамонью на работе такие встречались, подрали домашнюю птицу и покусали пони и лошадей, -- а волки заходят из Воронежского заповедника, и играют собачьи свадьбы (ибо много бездомных псин, в т.ч. нестерилизованных); а волко-псы хуже и волка, и пса: не боятся человека, как собаки (и отлично понимают "наши повадки"), а не любят людей как волки. Sam, do things your way. Trust the Lord to order your steps. What you're going through is part of your walk with Him. It's fucking rough at times. I'm going through some awful shit myself just now, and He's giving me the strength and guidance moment by moment as I'm going along. He's the only reason that I live. If I look down the only foot prints I see are His. He's taking me through. I'm expecting a knock on my door any moment now. A whole new chapter will open in my life and in a matter of days I will be in Moscow walking the streets. As it is now, it's all I can do to walk a few yards. Soon I'll be a new man, still me but new. Being is my calling and job, a no-brainer, which living 24/7 with Him is. You and I and all who believe living by faith in Him are constantly filled with His Holy Spirit. We're in the best hands in all of reality and I'm constantly thanking Him for everything. I'm glad the bad heat stopped over there. I'm sure I was not the only one praying for that. I'll stop for now.

Радость, изумление, досада и прочие эмоции, которые Вы испытываете, сталкиваясь с российской действительностью должны быть видны на экране. Безэмоциональное повествование скучно слушать. (Можете погуглить "список базовых эмоций" 😀) 2. Рассказывайте на русском. С ошибками, пусть!! Мы радуемся, когда иностранцы проявляют интерес к нашему языку, культуре, истории. Радуемся, что человек старается вникнуть, понять. (А не смотрит на нас: "забавные эти туземцы, но у меня с ними ничего общего". Вдобавок, с субтитрами ролики, я лично, не люблю. Пока я читаю субтитры, я не успеваю уловить выражение лица рассказчика (считать с лица эмоции), не успеваю рассмотреть виды природы, поселка и прочего, о чем рассказывается. Пересматривать ролик дважды, чтобы уловить все детали - времени нет.
Хорошо бы в начале каждого ролика давать коротенькую экспозицию - кто Вы, почему Вы здесь, какие мотивы. Чтобы быть понятным зрителю и "вызвать сопереживание". Следить за жизнью "чужого" тебе человека - не интересно.

I only recently seen your channel and am working my way through some videos. I sympathise wholly with what you are saying. I too have become a bit annoyed with many channels and videos that are intent on showing only bad things. Even Russians do it themselves because, as you say, they know they will get more views etc. But, personally, I much more appreciate what you are doing and I admire your honesty and integrity. Keep it going my friend. I have never been to Russia, but do want to go some time. I have though, been to Ukraine quite a few times.

Yes, there is entertainment, and money one imagines, to be found in the downtrodden, babushka laden soviet structure videos. But, genuine reality from far away can be quite appealing and weirdly therapeutic. I very much enjoy your work as is, with possible exception of increased regularity of posting videos. I do realize that time is money and money is money, but my optimistic, idealistic nature tells me you'll do very well if you continue to do what you enjoy the way you wish to do it.

@@SamsRussianAdventures I am in North Carolina. Growing up in the American south makes the increased upheaval, unrest, complete lack of civility and respect abounding here so hard to take. We southerners, though much maligned and misrepresented, by and large grow up with moral fiber, generosity, and a healthy open the door for people, no ma'am and sir sensibility. The only hesitation I would have about a Russia relocation would be my inherent talkative, smile, eye contact nature. Russians are a bit reserved about said things, correct?

A very long time ago, I would dream of building a house and the cost would be no obstacle. I sketched floor plans and from my limited experience I realized that in reality I should make every room twice as large. Especially the toilet and bathroom to be large enough to hold a small party, the one place we’re always forced to bump our elbows on the walls. That’s just me. What you showed us of your house looks spacious and roomy with nice views. I hope you’ll have a lot of happiness there.
Thanks Douglas. For me location is so important. I searched for a couple of years. I found some nice plots but they were all a long way from the city. This one had great views and also only 5km from the city. It took a year of haggling with the owner but eventually she gave in. It will be great when it's all done.

Interesting outer wall building materials. Looks like cinderblocks or concrete. I wonder for better insulation purposes? I guess there is a certain amount of freedom in your village. You can build whatever you can afford. I can assume there is no association that dictates the size of the buildings or what they look like. I live in a townhouse. I pay $151 a month just to pay for the privilege of living here. My association has rules on what areas can be seen.
Yes, it’s a cinder block type material called ytonga. In gated communities we have a charge, for the upkeep, security and use of amenities. But ours isn’t a gated community. Each road just decided to put its own barrier on it! It’s probably illegal as it’s a public road!!!!

Have you reached out to a vlogger who has maybe 20k or 30k subscribers? Have you tried reaching out to "Backyard Russia"? He is from Australia. He is married with two small children. He and his wife is Studying Russia. He lives in Siberia Russia. He has carpentry and mechanical skills. He has about 11.6 k subscribers.
I saw his channel and I really enjoy it. I love the romantic storyline of his family, moving to Russia to open a farm. It’s a possibility. They live a few thousand miles from me though. Thanks for your suggestion though. It’s something I’m looking into.

@@SamsRussianAdventures , да , газ удобней всего . я не знаю как у вас , у меня под Вышним Волочком в поселке напряжение скачет , из-за этого газовый котел может выйти из строя. Обязательно купи стабилизатор напряжения на 220 В. У меня итальянский котел Бакси , пока не поставил стабилизатор сгорела плата с мозгами. Кроме того могут вырубить свет из-за обрыва проводов зимой или в ураган. Неплохо иметь еще какой либо подогрев. Печку например. Почаще приезжай на стройку , лучше все контролировать самому. Держи в курсе по стройке , чаще выкладывай видео!
Я могу предположить, что вашей аудитории интересно сравнение. Не обязательно даже с тем местом где вы жили. Не обязательно сравнивать в стиле Плохое или Хорошее. Сравнивать можно всё. Я вот слышал, что американцы(хоть вы и не оттуда). Руки моют перед едой, но не моют приходя с улицы, ходят дома не босиком и не в тапочках, а в уличной обуви. Об этом можно рассказать, может истории из жизни, как вы к этому относитесь. И раскрыть миф ли это или нет. Это просто пример темы. Таких тем может быть очень много: от фильмов и языка, до общения с продовцами, качество и виды продуктов, досуг детям, музыка, свобода слова, больница, интервью или разговор про сложности на стройке или со строителями и т.д. И всё это в объективной сравнительной форме. И даже если у вас не полный опыт или правильное представление о теме, то обратгая связь с зрителями обеспечена.
Плюс, я вижу, что у других подобных видео есть в ролике тема конкретного видео. Или есть ролики на определенные темы и параллельно есть влоги, но нужно разграничивать, чтоб было понятно, где тема, а где влог(например присваевать номер влога и краткое описание)..

If you're making content because you want to show Russia, keep doing what you're doing. If you want to make money, sell out. I don't think there's anything wrong with people showing to gritty stuff to get more views, but it's more like TV entertainment than actual life.

Sam, I stumbled across your channel last night. You have some great content and I would say as a brit living in Ukraine, show the audience what you'd like to show them about Russia. The honest thing about every country is, it has a good and a bad side. If there's some "interesting" locals doing something peculiar then why not film it? I can understand your local friends don't think this is a good representation of Russia but what are you trying to represent? Not all Russians can afford to build a big house, some people live poor, some are homeless, some are mega rich. It's a mixture of both, even in the UK there are many people with problems, homelessness is real all around the world. So, what I'm trying to say is don't feel your content should be controlled by anyone but yourself. You have lived in Russia for a long time and love the country, maybe that doesn't fit well with other peoples views but who are they to try control or stop you? This channel is your understanding of mother Russia and let it stay that way. удачи!!
Thanks Joshua, what I’m saying is that most foreigners expect Russia to be run down so if I show the opposite I don’t meet their expectations. I film a bit of everything because everywhere here is full of contrasts. Those who film the run down areas and pretend that they are basically the norm are the ones who get the views.

Проблем, безусловно, много (и некоторые на них зацикливаются, кто за гранты, кто из узости мышления, кто веря в силу обличений, -- первых ненавижу, вторых жалею, третьих уважаю, но всё равно с ними не согласен, ибо лучше всего -- объективность). В порядке объективности: хоть и бездомные у нас тоже есть, но весьма немного (например, волонтерская группа "Рассвет" в Воронеже при раздаче подарков или бесплатной еды даже зимой набирает максимум человек 30 "заглянувших", причем некоторые не бездомные, а мимоходом берут чаёк погреться, и "поговорить с интересными людьми"; плюс приют где-то человек 100 принимает. Для города с населением больше миллиона это, по-моему, капля в море. Я помню, когда бездомных было действительно немало (в 90-е и начале 00-х) (у нас бездомных часто называют "бомжами", от "БОМЖ" аббревиатура, которая означает "Без Определенного Места Жительства", так в протоколах писали). Теперь крайне редко можно встретить (теперь в подвалах живут коты))

Because the land is individually owned it’s up to the individual as to what they build. The thinner wooden houses are not very popular here.

Она много анализирует, и заставляет задуматься над привычными "незаметными" вещами. Импонирует её любовь к России. Это не значит, что нужно делать льстивые приторно-елейные ролики. Говорите о недостатках! Говорите о том, что кажется странным, глупым, неудобным. НО говорите с уважением к стране и людям. Чтобы у зрителя не было ощущения, что его тыкают носом в недостатки, как тыкают носом в лужу мочи нассавшего кота.

@@SamsRussianAdventures Может, надо иметь при себе какую-н. "шумелку" (шума большинство зверей боится), да и газовый баллончик не помешает (мало ли, и люди бывают разные). Лось тоже зверь серьезный (хотя видел фотки из нескольких городов, где лоси просто "заходят в гости", лежат в песочницах, а люди ходят себе мимо, -- хоть, конечно, лосей надо бы из города выдворять, кто знает, о чем сохатый думает, под рогами не видно)).
У нас в Воронеже прямо в город порой кони заходят, коровы. один заяц до центральной площади доскакал, прыгал вокруг Ленина)). Косули бывают, лисы (вот это небезопасно: могут быть бешеными, как раз, увы, самые ласковые(
Есть и неприятные создания: волко-псы (под Рамонью на работе такие встречались, подрали домашнюю птицу и покусали пони и лошадей, -- а волки заходят из Воронежского заповедника, и играют собачьи свадьбы (ибо много бездомных псин, в т.ч. нестерилизованных); а волко-псы хуже и волка, и пса: не боятся человека, как собаки (и отлично понимают "наши повадки"), а не любят людей как волки. Да, описаньице получилось: прямо джунгли)) Еще вспомнил фото, как по Архангельску гуляет белый медведь... Всё, портрет России готов, чуть выдержать, чтобы не смазались краски, и можно вешать на стенку)
* Но, конечно, это гости, а постоянные наши "горожане" - это, кроме псов, коты (обоего пола), белки (сейчас они уже стали серебристенькие, снега еще нет, а они уже готовы)), голуби, вороны (Воронеж же)), утки и лебеди (но утки и лебеди не по всему городу, конечно)).

I'm going through some awful shit myself just now, and He's giving me the strength and guidance moment by moment as I'm going along. He's the only reason that I live. If I look down the only foot prints I see are His. He's taking me through. I'm expecting a knock on my door any moment now. A whole new chapter will open in my life and in a matter of days I will be in Moscow walking the streets. As it is now, it's all I can do to walk a few yards. Soon I'll be a new man, still me but new. Being is my calling and job, a no-brainer, which living 24/7 with Him is. You and I and all who believe living by faith in Him are constantly filled with His Holy Spirit. We're in the best hands in all of reality and I'm constantly thanking Him for everything. I'm glad the bad heat stopped over there. I'm sure I was not the only one praying for that. I'll stop for now.

2. Рассказывайте на русском. С ошибками, пусть!! Мы радуемся, когда иностранцы проявляют интерес к нашему языку, культуре, истории. Радуемся, что человек старается вникнуть, понять. (А не смотрит на нас: "забавные эти туземцы, но у меня с ними ничего общего".
Вдобавок, с субтитрами ролики, я лично, не люблю. Пока я читаю субтитры, я не успеваю уловить выражение лица рассказчика (считать с лица эмоции), не успеваю рассмотреть виды природы, поселка и прочего, о чем рассказывается. Пересматривать ролик дважды, чтобы уловить все детали - времени нет.

Хорошо бы в начале каждого ролика давать коротенькую экспозицию - кто Вы, почему Вы здесь, какие мотивы. Чтобы быть понятным зрителю и "вызвать сопереживание". Следить за жизнью "чужого" тебе человека - не интересно.

@@NinaBareeva да, + эти дома с историей, такие ценятся больше.Слышал что в России есть программа по которой ты можешь получить такой дом почти бесплатно, но восстанавливать и содержать его нужно по всем правилам - и это уже выходит очень дорого(

Деревья маленькие , их можно выкопать и пересадить в другое место.
