From what I can see, Russian people are very hospitable if you show them just the smallest respect. It looks like they appreciate well-made things. I mean they could’ve got mad and booted you out of there, but since you showed interest in what they do, they were more than happy to show you around. I wish more people were like this.

Singer, in 1900 wanted to build 2 similar office buildings in New York and Saint Petersburg (Russia) because he had high hopes for the American and Russian markets. But it was not allowed to build anything on Nevsky Prospect (the main street) higher the the royal residence, the Winter Palace. As a result, a compromise was found and Singer was allowed to build a 6-storey building with a transparent tower on the corner. Now it is the largest bookstore in St. Petersburg and an Art Deco masterpiece. And in New York they built a real skyscraper but it stood only until the end of the 20s. and was demolished by the new owner of the land

Btw a friend of mine has his own antique piano museum (over 500 sq.meters with a few dozens of 19 and even 18 cent. upright and grand pianos) in Rybinsk, near Yaroslavl, if you're interested to make an episode, I can give you contacts.

In the West - particularly in North America - a house should not stay for ever - otherwise the whole construction businesses will collapsed......If people will have new houses every 40-50 years - it would be A LOT OF JOBS!!!

My goodness. It boggles the mind that this fellow has managed to collect all of that cool stuff in one lifetime! If a Russian guy wandered into a British village with a camera, even if said Russian guy was wearing tie-dye hippy clothes and a smile warm enough to melt an iceberg, if what I've been seeing in the news in anything to go by, he'd be arrested and detained in some undisclosed location before you could say, "terrorist 'cause they told me so."
Your videos are just getting better and better, Sam, and it's a really fantastic thing to behold.
