      You have my wheels spinning. So let me ask this question(SSS)- For 10 year old's-in 4th, is this too young to send them on their own with some help? Do you typically finish a curriculum like a tgtb language arts level 4? Would you finish that doing it only a few times a week? I see Math is 4 days a week, would you do Language 4 days a week too and the rest 3? As for what the rest is- We do Bible which is a pick and choose from 3 different curriculums/devo's, Abeka chapter book comprehension where they write their vocab/questions/story review, read aloud to each other-Imagination station, manuscript(even in 4th ugh yes it needs work) history (Tuttle twins/ random pop up ideas) Science-Answers in Genesis textbooks and a unit or study that goes along. I have been doing it all except for science and history everyday. I can't imagine them doing these two on their own yet. Ohh we are listening to a read aloud as well-about done with Anne of Green Gables. Our days would max at 3 hours easy if I spread these out- what do you think??? They would love to be assigned art/board games and research your own interest day instead in the extra time they have!

      What grades/ages do you have your kids read Story of the World on their own?

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Год назад +2

      @@alicerodriguez4323 My boys are 4th and 6th grade and both read it on their own. I think it would just depend on reading/comprehension level. A couple of my kids would have been fine with it in 3rd grade while another would have been 4th.

      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Год назад +2

      @@FLMegan I think it depends on the child. It’s always worth a shot! My 4th grader does great mostly on his own. 😄 We do 5 days of some form of LA but don’t use TGTB. I’m not a huge stickler on finishing the entire curriculum. We do our best to get close though for LA and math. The other subjects I am more flexible on.

    I’m a self guided homeschooler, so I read a book on a person, and I’ll write a summary of it, and for language arts I’m working on reading comprehension, I do typing, for science I’m studying the body and I’ll read the same things for a week so it’s in my mind and for right now I’m doing graphing for math which is about 10 days worth. This is until I get my math and Language from the good and the beautiful. I also do scripture writing the the soap method after I’m finished with school. I should also mention I’m also doing Bible study in the morning through a book of the Bible. :)

    Exceptionally helpful! I have a "personal checklist" for my older 2 kids (11 and 9yrs.) for their pre-breakfast early morning learning. (They wake up very early.) I've been filling these in every night with the kids' assignments for the morning, but I love the autonomy you've added in for independence. I'm definitely going to find a way to transition to this method as we continue through this, our 5th year homeschooling. Thank you so much! * We also really love the Not Consumed Bible studies.

    All the information you have them narrate back to you, do you have to study that before them in order to be sure that they got the comprehension correct?

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  22 дня назад

      No, we just read it once in short increments and then they narrate or re-tell when they remember in as much detail as they can. It works best to start with very short segments when first trying this, and then as they get older and used to the process, they are able to recall much more from longer segments. It’s amazing how much they can remember when they are trained to pay attention and listen for details. We discuss it if need be for correct info. ☺️

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Год назад

      Sorry you’re feeling like you’re behind, i know that’s a stressful position to be in. I would encourage you to look at the progress that’s being made rather than focusing too much on what place you are at in the curriculum or looking at what other people are doing. All children learn at different paces, and that’s totally normal. We have to be careful to not put too much pressure on ourselves to “keep up” with everyone else. That can lead to burn out real fast! I know, I’ve been there! Look for the small victories and just keep pressing forward. You’ve got this!

    • @ciannacoleman5125
      @ciannacoleman5125 Год назад

      The beauty of homeschooling is that students learn at their pace so if something is hard to grasp you spend a longer time on it. There isn't any "falling behind," often a student will be "ahead" of their "real school" friends in some areas and "behind" in others.
      If you live in one of the unfortunate states that require you to keep up with your "real school" peers you should look into homeschool groups in your area to get more area specific help.
