Michonne is a force to be reckoned with in the comics. In my view, no action from any villain comes close to what she did with the Governor in the Woodbury arc. If Michonne had not met Rick and the group, I don't doubt she could have become a villain herself.
As someone currently watching the show and who never read the comics, I look forward to each of these videos. I love the narration and editing. Keep up the good work!
@Swell-Films my dad got me the first one and I read it over and over, not knowing it was a whole series, my dad got me the second one and I went "there's more?!!" and he eventually bought me the rest overtime lol
I love the governor story arc mainly because he seemed like a very nice guy at first until they went to his office one of the best twists in comic book history.
People sleep on how GREAT of an idea it was for Kirkman to disable the hero in a way that was perfectly balanced. It was super shocking and gruesome, but it also didn’t render him useless. Rick could still be badass at times despite being crippled.
I really dislike the governor in the show. He’s a well written villain, but soooo far from his comic counterpart. He feels generic and he definitely doesn’t fit the prison arc, and imo makes it worse
@@LuckyNo2-q5h Ehhh I think the break kind of made it feel better. Again my main issue is that the interesting part in the prison arc is the group surviving, the internal conflict, and the general insanity of everything that was completely stripped away because of the governor
I'm solely a comic fan, I don't care much for the show, but the Governor was such a crazy character, someone who easily got corrupted in the new world. He has had the biggest impact on our main group more than any other antagonist in the series. He's just a monster honestly.
About the Morgan thing, in the comics, Rick, Lori, and Carl are from Kentucky. Lori and Carl went to Georgia to be with family. It would be a significant detour to go across state lines. That's why, later on, the group effectively has to split so Rick, Carl, and Abraham can go check up on Morgan. Abraham only agrees to the detour because Rick still has the keys to the police station, and they can load up on more weapons
@Swell-Films I found that the comic deluxe edition has something called the cutting room floor where kirkman tells us what ideas he changed throughout the series
his intro was crazy! i suggest anyone to read the governor novels. cant remember how many there are. The Rise & fall. road to woodbury i think. there's a few . really gives the insight into him as a character. and how/why he became what he became
I read all the novels at least 3 times so I recommend them too! Especially Fall of The Governor Parts 1&2 for the different points of views on Woodbury side in the prison arc. It makes Rick look like the bad guy while in the comics Governor is the bad guy but he’s evil in both😅
@@TheDoBetterPodcast and there are 8 novels :) Rise of Gov, Road to Woodbury, fall of the Governor part 1&2, Descent, Invasion, Search and Destroy, and finally Return to Woodbury
The introduction of The Governor this issue was absolutely perfect! But, I still prefer the shows version of the Governor because of how charming he is and can blend in more with his looks too. I agree with you on Rick chopping off his own hand in The Ones Who Live and it’s a call back to how he almost cut off Carl’s hand/ and what Merle had to do to himself so it’s like karma back at Rick too. Back to the comics, Carol is breaking more and more which is sad to see. Ben and Billy situation too is sad. It’s scary how The Governor can just flip a switch after what he did to Michonne and act like nothing happened while talking to the Woodbury residents. Chopping off Rick’s hand shows how much of a threat Governor is and how now no one is safe, even Rick while showing a sense of powerlessness. Fun-fact: The helicopter victims were in the novel too called Fall of The Governor part 1. They got rescued by Martinez and a few others on the supply run I mentioned last part. I won’t give too much away in case people want to read the novels but I like the story behind it. The little conversation between Rick, Michonne, and Glenn I didn’t pay much attention to so nice touch on detail! The story behind that tank of heads and how Penny became a walker is pretty sad too. I can’t wait until the next part! The story is getting better and better! I’m gonna restart the comics again so thank you for the inspiration!
I so wish they'd included more from this arc in the show! But I understand it probably would've been too much for general audiences at the time 😅 Great video as always, Ty!
The Governor has scared me a lot what he did to Michonne was just wrong and bad he was to far gone! Plus him eating people too which is more crazy to me. I remember Robert Kirkman said that it was a mistake taking off Rick right hand. I have mixed feelings about Rick losing a hand it does make him more baddass and cooler but he can get stuck with so many situations with one hand! Great job on the video!
Awesome video man, I don't blame you for appreciating the small conversations in the comics. The comic is known for being more realistic than the AMC series. Please continue summarizing the comics!!!! I know it's going to continue to get f'd up but we have to know now!!!!!! I image that AMC Michonne could've gotten the comic book treatment if Merle gave her to the Governor.🤢 I got watch you video about the full Governor story arc in the AMC series only about a month ago, so learning about the difference between the show and comic is still fresh in my head.😬
I appreciate the support mate! Honestly I’m glad that stuff was left out of michonnes tv arc. She’s a much better character from the get go and didn’t need something like that to inspire revenge, what they did worked well as is imo
@@tarareads23 Heck no, I didn't mean to make it sound like that. Just that from how the Governor was preparing the room, it gave me some comic book psycho vibes.
@@Christian_H3rnand3z okay because it didn’t seem that way to me when you said “imagine if AMC gave Michonne the comic book version if Merle gave her to the Governor.” Cause that doesn’t exactly sound like set decorating to me. But whatever. Y’all try to justify everything. 🙄😒
Absolutely loving listening to your comic versions. I had no idea how rancid The Governor was!!?? 😮😮 Brilliant... What is the best way to now own the entire lot? I'm aware of books worth, but not how many, or what is out there?
This part of the comic was absolutely insane. The Governor of the comics is absolutely insane compared to the the tamer version of the show. I mean, he does... ICK. he gave me so much ick in this comics. The prison arc was actually non stop acting and thrills. I think the governor in the show is done way better. He is a legit sociopath. He was charming and realistic. The show did way better with his character. The SA on Michonne was completely unnecessary and hard to read.
It was probably harder for rick to return and find Morgan in the comics when returning to atlanta considering there from Cynthia Kentucky while in the show there in king county Georgia
That’s fair, I believe there’s a line in issue 2 when he finds the horse that Atlanta was only 5 more hours up the road, I figured with a motorcycle, Morgan would be worth those few extra hours since he was already on his way out there lol
there are things i like about the governor in both the show and comics. the comic version has the edge in the governor's evil ruthlessness but the show governor seems much smarter, more charismatic, more sympathetic, and realistic. Like why the fuck do these random people follow comic Governor knowing he is insane, has his zombie niece shacked up in his place, practices cannibalism, and feeds random strangers to the zombies? the commoners of Woodbury don't know about this but his more loyal followers like Eugene, Martinez, and Lilly know, especially since Eugene has directly given body parts to The Governor. Also, the Governor torturing Michonne is essential for Michonne's character, who is probably the best character in the comics. Now when it comes to the show Governor, there are a few things I didn't like about him and his storyline. For one thing, it's still weird how so many people in his army would just attack and kill a group of military soldiers just to take their stuff. i feel like at least one of them would be smart enough to suggest that they protect The Governor's people. And they probably would. But I can look passed that. I also don't like how show Michonne is suspicious of the Governor for almost no reason and regularly acts up in Woodbury. There are almost no giveaways that The Governor is a sociopath. so why do those things? People might say that she's suspicious because he killed the zombie that was crushed by the helicopter but i think one of the characters in Woodbury (if not The Governor himself) assured the two that it was a walker and you don't need to be bitten or scratched to turn. So there's the end of the suspicion. Other people might say she became suspicious because of the bullet holes on the military vehicles and implies that the Gov and his men stole it from people. this is also stupid because the bullet holes could either be there before they took the supposedly abandoned equipment, and it could've been misfire from The Governor's men when they were killing all the zombies that were present. There is no way that blood she found would be fresh enough for her not to really think that it could've come from a zombie. Those vehicles, and thus the blood, has been sitting there in the sun for some time. But all that is more of a problem with the early storyline and even Michonne's character rather than the Governor himself. I really like both versions of the Governor, especially the one in the show since he's sort of a mixture of being ireedemably ruthless and evil, but also sympathetic and likeable. I remember him being my second favorite character in the show when i was still watching it (behind Rick himself). And i do think that Governor could've chopped off Rick's hand and he probably should've. It would've added to the steaks in the story, would make Rick (who's a trained Cop) loosing a fist fight with the Governor more believable in season 4, and would've almost be poetic if he gave Merle the honors of doing the amputation.
I prefer David Morrissey's governor, but I do wish the prison siege in the show was had more losses on Rick's side. It should've been TWD's "Red Wedding" event with the amount of death that happens in a short amount of time.
Oh yeah, it hit WAAAAAY harder in the comics. I think when the TWD TV series did the gov the way they did.. I realized that the show was losing it (no disrespect David Morissey, he did an awesome job with what he was given).
