  • Assertiveness is a skill regularly referred to in social and communication skills, often wrongly confused with aggression. Assertiveness means standing up for your personal rights in a direct, honest way whilst always respecting the feelings of other people.
In this video, LSBU lecturer and independent training consultant Linda Kelly explains how to ensure that small problems do not escalate into big ones, as well as addressing the assertiveness agenda in the workplace and everyday life.
“Assertiveness: the art of saying ‘No’” is part of the LSBU Alumni Association Key Skills Lecture Series, a series of professional development workshops.

This is an excellent lecture from the inimitable Linda Kelly. These strategies can often become lost in the everyday work and lives we lead in this fast-paced society of ours so it is a timely reminder to take care of ourselves - especially if being bullied or intimidated by others. Thanks for the opportunity to be present virtually. And thanks to Linda Kelly and the wonderfully participative audience for communicating one of the most difficult human responses we need to negotiate in our world today.

I am learning effective ways to communicate with people, work place, family.
Assertive communication is vital especially, facing difficult areas in our lives.
Assertiveness is responsive, proactive, and most of all mature.

There’s lots interaction in the video which made audiences in front of the screen felt less engaged, but overall it’s a helpful video

52:05 so if someone is towering over you in your space you are okay to stand up yourself? i think that would cause a physical altercation, but nonetheless i think it's good! i suppose the passive alternative would be to stay seated. staying passive

Assertive. Something we don't want women to be. We want yall to be feminine, submissive, and agreeable.

Jesus said yes or no. Anything other than that is from the devil. He wasn't kidding.
