That guy's so good he can play electric rhythm AND lead simultaneously on an acoustic guitar.
@Grumman F-14 Tomcat, and upright bass. Roscoe rocks.
Like Andy Said, It's just the light
People had real talent back then.
Not only can James best play lead and rhythm, the drummer is able to play drums without a drum set. Those were the days.
Hey look, if Julie Andrews can sing on a mountain in the middle of nowhere while being accompanied by a full orchestra...
A full combo in one acoustic guitar. That's real talent!
They were in no way really playing that lol.
@@jstar1000 It was for the joy of the TV joy haha. Two electric guitar parts on one acoustic with drums following in... Television bliss, fun and humor all and all... still love it! Thanks for the upload! (Matthew Scarborough) !!!
Watch his fingers. He is NOT playing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy Taylor & Barney Fife live forever in the hearts and minds of most all who grew up in small towns and those who wish they had....RIP Andy & Don
Just wish they would have made Don Knotts a producer and given him a share of the profits when his 5 year contract ended. He would have continued but they didn't want to cut him into the show's profits.
in certain places in this country, there was a time if you asked people who was the holy trinity, they woulda said john wayne, elvis, and andy griffith
@@jamesrawlins735 That's sad, the show would have not existed without him, greed is a terrible thing.
When we had great TV👍👍Still watching

I first saw this when I was 13 years old, and 6 months into lessons. I was about ready to give the guitar up when I saw this and got inspired. I went on and got good, LOL not professional good, but hang out in a party good. I truly believe this scene 55 years ago changed my life.
That’s cool.
As Eddie Van Halen said, “Just keep playing.”
What a great testimony. Thanks for sharing. I just watched this and it inspired me to get off my duff and go practice!
I understand what your saying . I would love to have learned the lead guitar but i couldn't so i went to the NEXT most important part of a band, the Bass, I learned that because it didn't have but 4 strings and it was easier to learn. I got DECENT but was NEVER an expert LOLOL, but i could listen to THIS alllllllll day right here .
It’s actually Barney Kessel of Wrecking Crew fame that is playing the music. In both episodes of the guitar player.
R.I.P James Best,Don Knotts and Andy Griffith.
Sarah Gregory never be guys like those . each of em was one of kind
Sarah Gregory, Absolutely, Those three were tv icons.

Playing acoustic that sounds electric lol
@@robb1761 … and playing rhythm to his own leads.

@The Doobie Sisters & Sack Blabbath Why shore! He can get banjo sounds, guitar sounds, trombone sounds. . . out of an old jug! (Denver Pyle as Briscoe Darling, "The Darlings Come to Town" from season 1 or 2 of Andy Griffith.)
You know the Dukes of Hazzard? I know it and I am 10.
That was one of the coolest scenes of the Andy Griffith Show!
Agreed....
I do believe he he set that up….
Barney's dance kills me every time
A great dance I really laughed funny
Don knotts was a comic genius he can make you laugh at any situation and he loved doing it and I love to watch him
You just got to love Barney
Yep. We had a buddy that used to get worked up like him. We’d say Now Barn! And he’d pipe down. So funny.
And saw a bumper sticker on the back of a car Protected by FIFE. With a picture of the Barney Fife character. Very funny. He lives on.
That was my favorite part of that sequence
A three guitar sound lol...Barney dancing stole the scene LMAO
While not spoken here, the truest words the ever escaped the lips of "Sheriff Andy Taylor" are ones that we need to apply to our everyday lives. Those words are, " Ya'll act like you got some sense".
Really good song rest in peace james best
Teens my age should watch shows like this. My parents are very cultured and I grew up on this show. It taught me some life lessons. And it's so clean and wholesome.
I’m an African American I love the music from a Griffith show especially the darlings those songs always make me cry.
You're spittin facts, I'm 21. 2001 baby, this show taught me a lot of important values you can't find just anywhere today.
Agreed! I was raised watching shows like this, and Dukes, and Beverly Hillbillies, etc. and these shows I would return to watch any day before watching half of what’s on TV nowadays. So glad my parents showed me these types of shows.

I used to watch it as a kid with my grandma during the Summer and again in her older age the last years of her life. I know exactly what you mean. Simple times, good television, long before reality tv and all this junk online today. It's best to cherish what you have while it's there.
That's a great memory.

That must’ve been a wonderful time. I remember being with my mom.
Everybody wondering about electric thythm and lead on an acoustic...well that's Mayberry Magic!
Zakk Wylde can make an acoustic sound like an electric guitar
And he totally ripped off the Batman riff 🤘
And at the end you can hear a drum set instead of the sticks on the bars. That is because a band was really playing the song!

James Best was in some outstanding Twilight Zone episodes.
And a couple B movies about Killer Shrews
Loved the twilight zone, still do. Nothing but crap on today.
I was thinking the exact same thing. A year later no less!. Damned good actor!
The few seconds starting at 2:13 had me thinking I was watching the Twilight Zone.
I also like how he was in The Dukes of Hazzard
Andy was a respectable guitar player
He was a high school music teacher for a time before breaking into acting.
The much better days of television unfortunately gone by us, and the
real tragedy is those days are very unlikely to ever return.
One of the guys that was on my Veterans Honor Guard told me about a time when they had an early funeral and ate breakfast at the same place James Best would eat regularly. They went to pay their bill and was told that their bill had already been taken care of indicating James Best had paid.
He was highly respected around here.
Some of my all-time favorite things: The Andy Griffith Show. Pure American. Rock & Roll music. Great guitar playing. And last but not least.... James "Jimmy" Best. One of my all-time faves from that era. I loved him in the Loan Ranger. Loved him in a lot of the other Westerns. And absolutely loved him as Roscoe P. Coltrain, in The Dukes of Hazard. Koo koo koo! But one of my favorite childhood memories was watching him on The Andy Griffith Show, as Jim Lindsey. This is still GOLD!
“That cuts me....deep” lol
I'm 48 and I still watch this show! It's a lot better than the trash that's called entertainment nowadays
I am 71, saw this episode when it played the 1st time during season one....and the writer I am replying to is right !! Even watching this episode 50 times it is still better (at the 51st time) than anything on TV today
I can't believe it!!!! After years of searching I finally found that movie Jailhouse Rock!!!!! lol
RIP James Best, Andy Griffith, Don Knotts
I found a website when James was alive. It was James selling his artwork. He had a contact email. I told him he was a really good guitar player. He messaged me back saying he wasn't really playing. He actually thought it was kind of funny me asking that. He was a pretty big star to take time to message me back. He was just a really nice guy. One of my favorite episodes of Andy.
Paul griswold I once asked James best for his autograph at an event He told me to go fuck my own mother. He then threw a punch at me. He wasn’t a nice guy at all
James Best passed away at age of 88 in April 6,2015 from complications of pneumonia.
It was Barney Kessel of Wrecking Crew fame that was actually playing the music.
He replied to an e-mail i sent him back in early 2000's and said he appreciated my watching this and the "Dukes of Hazzard"...a real Class Act was Mr. Best, sorry I never got a chance to meet him.
I live in Mr. Best's hometown of Corydon, In. There is a sign in front of his boyhood home that says Home of James Best. Read his book "Best in Hollywood." Some of it is pretty funny.
Every child should be raised watching The Andy Griffith Show. Hundreds of years from now I hope people are still watching. You learn a lot about how to treat people. Andy always reminded me a lot of my father and the calm disposition that was commonplace in small-town America. I am eternally grateful may they all rest in peace they now belong to the ages.
Just one word: AMEN.❤❤
One of the few great character actors that was left from a forgotten era of Hollywood. And James Best will be miss by his family, friends, and his fans.
If I heard this tune *1,000,000 TIMES* I would *STILL DANCE AND SCREAM "YEE~HAW!!!" TO THE TOP OF MY LUNGS AND SAY "WOW!!!* every single time 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Benjamin Tielking whats the song? It’s been bugging me for so long

I don't think it's an actual song. It's just musicians jamming (improvising) to the basic blues chord progression (I - IV - I - V - IV - I).
Andy, James and Don. There No words to describe how Awesome they were. They are surely missed

Great show, i remember my Grandmother babysitting me and this show was on every day while she did the ironing. Goooood days those were. In the summer every one was outside scrubbing their sidewalks down. None of us were rich but we all helped each other put coal in, shovel snow etc. This society has lost so much. It's really sad.

You're accusing someone of being a racist without knowing the person. Classic liberalism. Oh, BTW, Trump will be the President for the next 5+ years so might as well adapt.
@Jason The smallest minority is the individual. And where does he mention minorities?
As far as I can see, the "good old days" only set the stage for today's problems --- which you seem to be now embodying in a reactionary way.
Rather than being a product of the negative influences of that generation, how about we endeavour to move beyond those to synthesize something better? If we don't, there's only one destination for all of us.
I did the ironing while The Andy Griffith show was on lol. In the summer every one was outside sitting on the stoop.
We took out the hose , put our finger on the spout and got everybody soaked.
None of us were rich either, but we had fun.. Bungalow Bar ice cream truck came by at night. We’d hear him ringing his bell. My favorite was a Pistachio ice cream on a stick . Sometimes we’d get a lucky stick , good for a free cream bar.

R I P Mr. Best one of the great character actors.
Electric acoustic guitar lol
James Best played in a TON of westerns in the 50s & 60s, starting in 1950. And he played in some non-westerns too. He's obviously not playing the guitar on this recorded event, but he could play guitar. He also wrote songs. His uncle was Ike Everly, one of the best guitarist in the south, who teamed up at times with one of the greatest guitar players that ever lived, Merle Travis. Ike Everly was the father of Don & Phil Everly-The Everly Brothers, who are in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame AND the Country Music Hall of Fame. And yes, Although James Best was NOT in the same league with Ike Everly, he COULD play. Dang good actor too. R.I.P. JAMES BEST
I'VE JUST GOT DONE WATCHING JAMES
IN A WESTERN MOVIE WITH.
JAMES STEWART & HARRY MORGAN
He also played on the Dukes Of Hazzard as Roscoe p coletrain
He sure didn’t look like he ever played the guitar. I know it wasn’t real but as a guitarist myself he didn’t even fake it well as far as I’m concerned.
James Best was also a main star in a horror film call The Killer Shrews.
It’s funny because I’ve been watching some Everly Brothers videos on here and someone said something about James Best resembling them. I googled them and found out that James is related to them so that was weird!!
My family watched this episode in the early '80s, when I was maybe 14 or so. During this scene, my dad suddenly hollered out, "That's Roscoe!" Only then did I see it. I don't think I'll ever forget that. Thanks so much for posting this.
James Best often admitted that in reality, he never played a lick. He faked it to someone else playing.
Howard Roberts had a wonderfully rich guitar playing career. RIP.
"Deepest condolences to families and friends of all our legends actors and actresses!"
Hello Mary, How are you doing?
That’s the guitar playing of the great Herb Ellis. I took a lesson from Herb once, and he told me all about it., he said they had a Fender Twin amp and Telecaster there for him and they had a great deli table for when the filming was over.
James Best couldn't play, but lied to the producers and said that he could...and with the Everly Brothers being his first cousins, they believed him.
Wrong! Barney Kessel, a guitarist for the Wrecking Crew, played the guitar on this episode. Best could play guitar, but he wasn't a professional musician by any means.

Lol!! I tell you what? This scene never gets old watching. I mean Barney is just to hilarious in the way he was getting dwn. And yep!! What was the name of the song
Hell yeah! Bobby Fleet and his band with the beat!
Renamed Freddy Fleet in subsequent episodes by mistake. The wtiters forgot his name was originally Bobby and not Freddy, when they brought him back.
Hard to believe that was nearly 60 years ago.
