When I was in college in NC in the mid 80s, me and all my friends would watch all the reruns and laugh at them at lunch the next day. It was so special when you would see an episode with the Darlings. Now, we have RUclips and can pull any of them up online. That show was so special and so funny. When I moved to the DC area in 1988, I saw the Dillards at the Birchmere. I actually got to meet them in their dressing room after the show. I can’t even tell you how special that moment was.
The only episode involving the Darlings that is actually good, in my opinion, is Mountain Wedding. That episode doesn't have Briscoe jumping to conclusions like an idiot, ignoring what's right in front of his face, Charlene being lovey dovey towards Andy (the least of my problems), and ignoring anything that someone says to him about something (like Andy telling him so many times that he doesn't want to be with Charlene, or that he doesn't want to marry Charlene after she divorced her first husband, Aunt Bee telling him that she wasn't trying to impress him with her household manners, and doesn't want to marry him, or Andy telling him NO! about Opie marrying Charlene and Dud's less than a year old daughter (Yeah, you heard me. I've heard of different cultures and customs, but a ten year old boy marrying a less than a year old baby girl sounds ridiculous)). And the best part is that Briscoe gets a taste of his own medicine from Ernest T Bass wanting to marry Charlene. By that, I mean that Briscoe deals with someone who won't listen to him, just like how Andy, in the previous episode that they showed up, had to deal with Briscoe not listening to him about Charlene. It's legit the only episode that I actually like the Darlings. Every Darlings episode before and after, well.....
Charleen Darling. Maggie Peterson had a wonderful singing voice. I seen the Darlings years ago I believe on the Merv Griffin show. Maggie Anderson also performed very good voice. RIP Maggie
❤’d this show all my life (lol lonng time) but i have never warmed up to Ernest. i don’t know bc i still watch his episodes & even laugh *BUT* always in the back of my mind, something ab him bugs me!? lol thought maybe since he’s your big ol’ hero you might help me figure this out? What annoys me most is that i should ADORE Mr Bass, sort of rude & crude is my kind of humor! For real it truly _IS_ frustrating! i mean, i want to know what i’m missing!😢 _siiiigh_ tried every which way but couldn’t find a sentence to fit but also wanted to say _why don’t you just_ _MARRY HIM?!?_ 😂 Funny thing to say when i was a kid. i feel like you’re judging me. So _HOW OLD_ are you anyway?! lol? 😬
They have his guitar in the museum in Mt. AIRY ,NC. And a duplicate guitar that he had all the guest stars sign, James Best, Buddy Ebson, Don Rickles, all on it.
Denver Pyle was on everything worth showing on TV. He was on the Lone Ranger. Dukes. Grizzly Adams. Perry Mason. The Waltons. Andy Griffith. Gunsmoke. On. And on. And on. He was awesome.
Not real sure why Andy avoided Charlene's advances. Guess he was afraid of those mountain wild cats. I always thought there was something about her that was just a bit hot. I think it's her singing on.. there is a time.
Does anyone know the name of the very first tune they're playing in this video? It's quite catchy, & I'd like to hear the entire piece, but I need the title to find it.
I liked Ellie, the lady druggist too, but I read that she never felt comfortable in that role and didn't think she did a good job. I thought she did great.

The episodes with the Darlings are my favorites.
They should a got their own series

The invasion from the north, south of Texas, north
east & west coast is too much. Texas should have remained independent.
@@steelcantuna Texas Nationalist Movement is the way to go. Texas should be governed by Texans. It's about time we go back to our roots as a country.
That's Bluegrass my Darlin'
One of the best shows on TV when I was a kid!
Rhonda - As far as I'm concerned, one of the BEST SHOWS EVER!!!!
"The Dillards" were known to be one of the best Bluegrass bands ever....
FUN FACT:…Andy Griffith was a very good guitar player and was “rendering” right along with The Dillards on these songs..
"Dawg gone sheriff, you sure can render!" The way they used words in an unrecognised way is thrilling.
That Song Makes Me Cry.
"Jest jump in whar ya can an' hold on!" :)
Same
YEEEEEHAW
I just love the Darlings. My favorite song was "Dooley."
That’s a good one but my fave is ‘Ebo Walker’….until I “hang on” and learn a bit more!
I love them all too, but dougs tune is my fav!@@great-ok-good
The Darling family episodes were ALWAYS the funnest. Knew there was gonna be sum goooood sangin' and picking
This is a VERY GOOD episode of The Andy Griffith Show back in the early 1960's !
My Mom played guitar, her brother played Banjo, I remember them singing this song as a kid!
I also loved the shows where the Darling were on! I could listen to them all day!!!
"A- ONE AN' A- TWO AN' A-WAY WE GO!"
One of the very best on TV ever. Still watch the reruns, especially the episodes and/or with the rock thrower Ernest T. Bass.
You ain't heard the last..................
Truth!!!!!
Funny thing to say when i was a kid. i feel like you’re judging me.

And Earnest t directed several of the shows. He also directed other shows, seen his name on twilight zone as director
I always loved that song "Slimy River Bottom".😍😍😍😍
That one always makes me cry.
This one is actually "Doug's Tune." A great banjo tune.
Andy Griffith was a favorite of mine while I grew up!

Jugging...dranking...chaw'in tu'bacca...Does it get any better???
"We gotta hurry before that clerkin fellow returns from his supper". 😅 I just love the episodes when the Darlings were present. 🤠

I like the show when andy played his guitar and sang.❤❤❤
They have his guitar in the museum in Mt. AIRY ,NC. And a duplicate guitar that he had all the guest stars sign, James Best, Buddy Ebson, Don Rickles, all on it.
Great stuff!!!!
Only bluegrass I ever heard growing up in Wisconsin.
Thats the original Bass drum right there
Love the Darlings
That was GOOD STUFF!
Lewie - ABSOLUTELY!!!!

I lpve the darlings
Fun fact. Denver Pyle, The elder gent playing the jug, is aka Uncle Jessie from The Dukes of Hazzard.
Slimy River Bottom is nice.
"I ain't your uncle Jesse." Favorite saying from uncle Jesse aa well as " jump in and hang on."
Brilliant musicians
Denver Pyle was on the rifleman ( fun fact)
He was in a few "Perry Mason " episodes as well.
He was Uncle Jesse Duke in the Dukes of Hazard.
How come the song was cut out on the DVD of Andy Griffith Show the complete series
She is a great addition to the Dillards. I think she is so cute.
Fun jams!
They finally took the loud jugging out because it was overshadowing the Dillards.
Worst mistake ever was made….
RIP Denver's Pyle
JEFF SCOTT DENVER PYLE I REMEMBER FROM GRIZZLY ADAMS AS MAD JACK THEN DUKES OF HAZZARD UNCLE JESSIE R I P DENVER PYLE THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES PEACE
Denver Pile was a real life Jed Clampet . He took the money he made on tv shows and bought up oil wells .

The Darlings is what makes the show of course i still like andy though and Barney the Darlings are great museiuens aren't they.
Kids growing up now will think computers make the best music.
And ah one and ah two!!!
Charlene (Maggie Peterson) sure could render! Wonder what Dud would be saying?
I can get all sorts of sounds outa this here jug. I can get banjos. Geetars. Mandolins. All sorts u' sounds.
I doubt there is a set of lips around with that much versatility
A comedian who does a Barry Fife imitation opened for my cover band. He said he still does a show once a year with Charlene in Vegas
@ Jonecrap who is barry fife? SMH
🎵 🎸 🎶 🎸
🌹 😊😊🎉
"Just jump in and hang on!"
I can watch an episode of Andy Griffith featuring the Darlings or watch Dave Chappelle do a set and derive an equal amount of enjoyment.
Let’s try Slimy River Bottom and this time make it purty!
" Sherf, da boys are all choked up tonight", cue the blank expressions. They'd of killed Ernest T,give 'em half a chance. Great Show
season 3, episode 25
I never understood why Andy didn't get him some
🌷😘🌼🌷🌷
Sheri widrick Hi a
Briscoe: the boys get all head up when they come to town
Andy: yeah they a wild bunch
Andy should have gone for Charlene. Prettier and much sweeter than old lady Crump.
He couldn't live with the snoring. LOL
And she could cook pert near as good as her Ma…..
I liked Ellie, the lady druggist too, but I read that she never felt comfortable in that role and didn't think she did a good job. I thought she did great.
Pretty exciting that Briscoe Darling himself responded to my comment! How are the boys?
