  • The Texas A&M Aggies football program, led by Mike Elko, has made a ton of massive moves this offseason. It's clear that Texas A&M is finally using a really solid strategy when it comes to recruiting. Mike Elko deserves a lot of credit for his executing of this strategy since taking over as Texas A&M head coach. Fans of the Texas A&M Aggies should really be excited by this news.

Mike Elko was the juice behind what made Jimbo Fisher's first 4 years at A&M, successful. Now he's in charge.

Yea, 100%. That defense was a wall that kept that low gear offense in games and won field position a lot.

@@Freespeech-p7xrelative to Texas A&M yes, 2020 was the highest ranked finish since 1939 for Texas A&M. That was due to Elko's defenses.

@@Freespeech-p7x Won the Orange Bowl, beat LSU for the first time since we joined the SEC, and was easily the 4th CFP team in 2020 (despite getting the shaft). All of that, in combination with Elko's recruitment contribution to the highest ranked recruiting class of all time. Yeah, it was mildly successful

My breakout candidates on offense are Noah Thomas and Ruben Owens. On defense they are Shemar Stewart and Shemar Turner. Freshman breakout candidate is Terry Bussey.

I love how A&M has flown under the radar period. We had too much bs with Jimbo and you constantly saw people putting high expectations on the team (which we should have high expectations for, but you see how that has worked out for them in the past). The combo of Elko, Moffit, Klein, and flying under the radar I think will really help. Fans aren’t expecting an SEC championship or to even make the playoffs. We’re more level headed and so is the team. I think overall it’ll be a plus. At this point, who knows how good A&M will be. It’s all a mystery.
    GOOD.

Aggies now sit at number 5 in the updated recruiting rankings. My only concern with the Elko hire was can aTm still recruit, well so far so good. We do need to land at least 2 good recievers this cycle. The tight end that commited is a great start.

I believe in Mike Elko. Period. He was able to do the most in the country last 2 years with a team that had yearly #60 recruiting classes ... I believe that the combo of Cushing, Moffitt, and Klien are going to be a menace. The players will be much stronger and physically fit than in recent history, they will be able to move the ball, and protect the QB. They might not be one of the best in the country, but they will be much unlike what we have seen in the past.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I love his approach. Putting a great structure in place and going after dudes that fit the culture. Break out player, I think Connor. If we can get that oline to stop leaking like the Iraqi Navy, he'll stay healthy and he'll be able to really get some stuff done with that group of wideouts.

Donovan Green and Gabe Brownlow-Dindy. Green was a incredibly productive TE1 as a true freshman in 22. Missed entire season w/ torn acl, he will be an absolute beast for Weigman next year. Dindy is a mega talented, 5-star that has struggled with A&Ms edge depth and injuries. He will shock people this year on the DL playing behind Turner and Scourton. Him and Shemar Stewart are better than most teams starting edges

I think it has the potential to be a great team and is defensively, jsut not sure it's there offensively for this season. Wegman can play but he has some issues. Not sure Wegman is the guy for them to reach new offensive heights. Husan Longstreet is a nice start if and when he starts for A&M. Also the rushing offense has been poor. NO top 15 SEC rusher last year. 11th in the SEC in 23. In the short term the passing offense looks more promising this season than the rushing offense. 5th in the SEC in 23 isn't bad if Wegman is progressed and can stay healthy. A solid potential team if the defense stays right and they can move the needle offensively, any way they can. I think this team could give Texas a game if they can be the better defensive team, especially in the secondary and improve their passing game. Would not be shocked if this team won 8 or 9 games this season, plus a bowl win.

Mike Elko is a brilliant coach. The only fault with A&M post-Jimbo is that Elko should have just been the hire immediately: no delayed search surrounding the availability of Kalen DeBoer, no Mark Stoops disaster. Elko is a brilliant coach and A&M may - *finally* - have the coach that puts them over the top.

Texas has long been lambasted as “doing less with more.” Given that the farmers have not appeared in a conference title game since 1998 that label may need to transfer schools.

Are you serious? I can’t think of any program that has been lambasted more over the last 25 years(including Texas). Also, conference title games aren’t all equal. Appearing in a B12 title game is MUCH easier than appearing in an SEC title game.
