A lot of people say that Juncker wasn't elected: he was elected in Luxembourg. As the leader of the party that won the most votes during the European Parliament elections, he became head of the commission. You can compare it to the way Cameron was elected in the UK: only a handfull of people in his own district voted for him. But his party won the election and got him into power. (and no, I didn't vote for him. I voted for a party that supported one of his opponents: doesn't make him anyless democratically elected.)

How about you come up with an actual argument instead of assuming people didnt have genuine economic and security concerns.

clsman89 ...You are missing the point here, and it's this: yes, in fact, Junker has not been directly elected, that is, by the electorates, themselves, and also, it may have escaped some people's notice, that he is not a Prime minister either, or even any kind of minister, yet he, with Verhofstat as deputy, oversees, as EU commissioner, the making of all the legislation passed by the EU.
The Euro MPs elected and sent to Europe by the Electorates of Europe, do NOT make the legislation, As that is the way the EU is designed. So what this amounts to is now we have a commission, of appointed civil servants, not directly responsible to the public Electorates of Europe, making all the rules, while being presided over by the likewise appointed commissioner, who is, for all practical purposes, the de facto acting Prime Minister. It looks like Democracy was "designed out" from the start, rather than "designed in"...

The EU is looking angry towards Brittain because leaving the EU caused economical difficulties withtin Brittain and propably other European countries. But have we already forgotten what kind of recession we had and have to endure because of the installed EU-politics? Most European countries where doing fine before the EU-politics was installed! Most European countries where doing better than America based on economics and food protection laws! People within European countries are often living and eating more healthy than Americans. After the EU-politics where installed European countries just crashed economically! The economies of coutries like Spain, Portugal, Italy and Ireland suffered and many people within Spain became unemployed and even homeless. Other countries like Britain, The Netherlands, Belgium and France suffered as well economically. With TTIP America tries to get a tight grip on Europe! Lobbyists working for American multinational compagnies will buy their way into Europe like a virus. These lobbyists now have bring some multiple millions of euro's towards corrupted EU-lawmakers and this way they will destroy European food protection laws! America will be able so sell their cheap to produce trashfoods and other cheap junk within Europe are the European citizens will have no choise then to buy, use and eat it! Europe will become more dangerous and less healthy because of the corrupted superstate called the EU! Quality of life is more important than money!

You don't vote directly for Juncker for the same reason you don't vote directly for the British minister of education or justice: you elect your representatives and they choose the senior officials from their ranks. By the way, for a country that leaves the election of its head of state to genetics, I find that voting-mania quite difficult to believe.

  • @lupus2000

    Dear Leave Voters,
Some of you constantly brag with the GDP of UK being the 5th largest in the world and UK being a huge export country. Both is true - for now.
What you missed: A huge proportion of "UK" goods are produced by foreign companies, often global companies. Austin Mini, Rolls Royce, Rover, even Cadbury: All owned by global concerns. So what will happen, if UK is not in the free trade zone anymore?
They will produce just enough of that goods in their UK-based factories to meet local (=UK) demand. That't wise, as then they don't have to pay import taxes for that goods being sold in the UK. But they will start producing the goods for the EU market in other (=EU) countries.
BMW will produce the Austin Minis in Portugal to avoid paying taxes for the exports. Siemens will produce the wind turbines to be sold in the EU in Denmark and Germany. Kraft will produce the Cadbury sweets in its Switzerland factories, except for the ones to be sold in the UK.
So instantly GDP and UK exports will deflate like a rubber boat being hit by a shotgun. I did not analyze the figures in detail (looking at which UK products are manufactured by mulitnational companies), but my educated guess is that exports from UK will halve.
So UK will find itself in a 14th place globally, behind countries like India and even Korea. Not a very comfortable position to negotiate favorable free trade agreements. The EU knows that (contrary to most of the leave voters). Your politicians know that.
So in fact, despite the twisted thoughts spread by morons like Nigel, it's quite simple: The EU does not need UK, but UK will bleed to absolute meaninglessness without having FTA with the EU.
Therefore UK's best choice will be to follow the Norwegian model: Accept free movement, accept nearly all EU regulations, pay into the common cash box, but have NO VOTE. So basically nothing will change for UK except for having no more voice in the EU.
    Congrats! Well done!

Over the commission people have no controle whatsoever. There's no transparency and way to much power involved, start educating yourself please.

Quite right, why? If voice of the people means anything. Article 50 would have been implemented as promised, instantly. Waiting causes only economical harm to both parties. Thou this was not about EU but UKs inner vote, working class voting against elite. Class society, it can only go so far in unions.

The lack of specific information in the comments section is astonishing. Mainly english people talking without a basic knowledge of the election mechanisms inside the Eu.
A multinational union of states such as the EU needs to have a more complex body of regulations and mechanisms, and as citizens we have to understand them before sharing our opinion with others and especially before voting. For Accurate information check europa.eu/eu-law/index_en.htm . Don`t vote if you don`t understand what you`re voting for.

I believe that an EU without the UK can be stronger .
Why do I hold this view?
I think that the British are not, at heart, Europeans. It is a fact that the two major political parties, Conservative and Labour, are internally divided about their place in Europe. This has always been the case. I recall that when Winston Churchill spoke about the United States of Europe, he excluded the UK from his proposal. It is better for the EU not to have a member which is ambivalent and conflicted and which wants to be half in, half out.
Let the UK seek a new future outside the EU. Let the EU of 27 renew its faith in itself, reinvigorate its economy, narrow the gap between winners and losers and reduce the bureaucracy of Brussels.

    • @mcabronito
      @mcabronito 8 лет назад

I think everyone agrees on that (that UK has nothing to do in the EU anymore). Even the priviledges they had in the EU was indecent. They made it clear that every close collaboration will be seen as a despotic move against their sovereignty
The problem is that they obviously will take their sweet time, even if it means bothering twenty seven countries. EU wants to move on, but UK again, is not helping, self centered, as usual
