- The center-right European People's Party (EPP) is set to remain the biggest grouping in the European Parliament after voters went to the polls across Europe.
Ursula von der Leyen, the lead candidate for the EPP, as well as the European Commission President, said that the party had won the elections.
"No majority can be formed without the EPP and together ... we will build a bastion against the extremes from the left and from the right," she declared.
Von der Leyen is seeking a second five-year term as president of the European Commission, the powerful EU executive arm.
Preliminary election results also showed that far-right, nationalist parties had made the biggest gains in the polls.

We basically need to Subsidize a better Birth Rate across the West, or our Economic Model built around Growth will Collapse! Best place to start is not just on the Costs of Rasing Children, but Housing, and Getting Young People into Starter Homes so they Feel Comfortable enough even having Kids! You can just look at the Metrics to the Amount of Kids Born to People that live in the Middle of Cities and Live in Apartments, compared to people that Live in Houses, and See why we need to get Young Adults into Houses!

Changing population Dynamics and honestly the pressure of so many people being on the move from situations that are extremely bad. There are of course other factors at work but mainly the pressure is mentioned I believe the most significant for the strength of nationalistic and extreme conservatism are gaining strength.

EU citizens have decided. Von Der Leyens EPP had one of the biggest gains in EU parliament, so obviously voters arent that angry with her.

Disappointing Von Der Leyer isn’t replaced by a actually right of centre leader. Whilst her party may be centre-right, I’d say she’s centrist to centre-left.
It’s comforting knowing all the left of centre parties lost seats and all the right of centre, especially the conservative parties gained seats.
Though conservative or ‘far right’ these days simply means patriotic, common sense and against islamism.
Knowing the dangers and destruction it’s causing to Europe, anyone should be against islamism. Shouldn’t be something that makes you ‘radical far right’.
I also wonder how much of the people have to vote for the ‘radical far right’ before they stop calling it the ‘radical far right’. Le Pennes party got more than double the votes of Macrons party…the party of the government/president.
What does that say about Macron? That he’s suddenly even more ‘radically far left?’ The votes made his party look far more fringe/minority now than Le Pennes. Especially given he’s literally dissolved his government and called a snap election this month as a result of it.

The way I see it, the far-right underperformed in these elections. Yes, France is a clear exception. FPÖ in Austria too. But PiS and Fidesz both lost seats. Vox and Chega did not do as well as some polls had shown. Neither did the Sweden Democrats. Meloni's FdI in Italy just took votes from their feellow Lega coalition partner. Even Wilders PVV performed a bit below expectations. ODS in Czech Republic and New Flemish Alliance in Belgium are said to be considering leaving the ECR. Etc.
So they are crawlingly taking over not swiftly taking over. That means, that even the moderate voters are sending the message, that if things dont change there will be troubles, because CDU likes wont get our votes for granted....
Been following Meloni since 2015, and for me, a centrist, do not consider her far-right, which is only because, when young, she came from that wing before creating her own Party.
