Been 30 years since the Belemys and Anderson were relevant. Gotta remember Merle Haggard wasn't country enough at one point that's why he was part of the Bakersfield sound.

Yeah, not only is the difference in the soul of music sad, but the different mindset of the entertainers is quite sad too. Country music today has gone way too liberal hollywood. More concerned about getting invited to the "elite" awards shows than sticking to their country roots. There is country music for old men, but it has to be retrieved from the past.

@@davidmalone3317 Whats up? Just givin a few of my thoughts on today's "country". I like some of todays music ok but most of it aint country. I call it hybrid music. Combination of a little country, little rock, little pop, little rap, an occasional sliver of bluegrass, all while drivin the tractor down the old dirt road, headed to the party in the corn field to sing with a very exaggerated country twang to the voice. If i was 20 this might sound better. Im 60 so old school is a bit more my flavor.

Jacob, so glad to read your comment! There is a ton of excellent traditional country music out there waiting for you. We all have different tastes, we're not all going to like the same music so with that being said, I'd be glad to throw out some names to look up.
We grew up with music playing in our home, it has stayed with me and I couldn't imagine not having it. I listen to traditional country for the most part, have run across singers/artists who would never get air play today; in my opinion, what is being called country music nowadays is not country. I've always thought they should have placed it into a different genre but.. I stopped listening to the radio a long time ago and am perfectly fine with listening to my old music! Those who refuse to listen or give it a chance have no idea what they are missing.
Enjoy your digging, perhaps your wife will also hear something she likes. Again, I'd be glad to pass on some names for you to check out. Have fun on your search!

Keep digging. I am one of those old timers. There was authenticity and uniqueness back then. You could relate to the songs and you could tell who was singing without being told because they didn’t all sound alike. You have a wonderful journey of musical discovery ahead of you. Enjoy. Also, Ireland has some great traditional country singers. Try Eamon McCann's When You Come To Land. Derek Ryan's Gods Plan and Made of Gold. Daniel O'Donnell Welcome Home and Forty Shades of Green and The Last Waltz Of The Evening.

It’s the USA that’s “dead and gone”. But country music is immortal. It’s just been “canceled” by the same sociopolitical disease that has beaten the USA unconscious. If this country survives this Marxist coup country music will come back like daffodils in April. Country music is alive and well in the hearts and minds of every true blue American.... and at least we’re not “dead and gone” friend.... at least not yet. Screw em.... I’m still listening to it and I’m still writing it.... trying to anyway. Hang in there y’all and stay strong. This too will pass. The sky’s still blue, grass is still green, and ya just can’t kill “three chords and the truth”! The kids will get sick of all that crap eventually. If not screw em. Who cares? They can drown themselves for all I care. Their loss. I’d say what we really have here is just another case of the tail wagging the dog. It’s besieged our entire culture.

I`m living in germany. My very first big motorbike-trip took to to the US. It was back in 1999. Riding my rented Harley on my way to Nashville. Met a girl who was fully dressed in snake-leather clothes on her bike. She took me home (here house and garden was full of snakes!) Next morning she gifted me a CD. John Anderson, greatest hits. Hope you are doing well, Lady Harley and thanks for the great time we had.

The voices are perfect, gave me chills to hear everyone again. The point of the song is perfect, those were the days. Country music lost it's country a long time ago when it went to country rap "crap" and then every tune sounding the same. Country today doesn't represent real country people it represents GQ men who try to act country, I stopped listen towards the end of the 90's and only listen to 1960's - 1990's. Thanks ya'll for bringing back real country music. Same thing with everyone buying up pickups for a status symbol, I am a woman who uses mine, but the prices are through the roof because of posers who wouldn't know what physical work is.

Agreed. I've always said that good country music ended in the late 90s. There are some exceptions like Brad Paisley who have kept it going but for the most part...it is all crap.

Amen, I didn't even know John Anderson I haven't seen him in so long but then I'm not as young as I was when I saw him in a great concert in Apopka, God bless you all and keep making music for us old men

I'm 58, luckily there's Spotify so I can choose older music to play, cause I can't stand what's on the radio. The Bellamys have always been at the top of my list, they are the only ones still playing it the old way....all I can say is, Thank you. Appreciate all yall do. We may be old but we are still here.
