Growling Sidewinder Viper Flight Model Changes Preview:
• Early Access Preview O...
In our next open beta update, we’ll be adding many new features to the Viper. In this video, we’ll go over the more visible items, but please consult the change log for the full list once released.
One of the biggest items in the update has been tuning of the G onset and instantaneous turn rate, or ITR. These have been adjusted to better match public data, and we feel more accurately depicts the performance of the Viper. Please note though that you can’t simply pull 9 G in any situation, it is highly dependent on your gross weight, drag index, altitude, airspeed, and more. To provide an impartial view on these changes, we invite you to check out Growling Sidewinder’s video on these changes.
Okay, let’s start talking about the more visible changes coming to this update.
We have adjusted nose pitch at takeoff. It will no longer continue to rise on you un-commanded when the gear and flaps come up. To best see this, keep an eye on the boresight cross, and not the flight path vector. against the pitch ladder.
When in an Air Combat Maneuver, or ACM, radar mode and you lock a target, you will now hear a “Lock” audio message.
Also, when in ACM mode and you command the Slew sub-mode, the Helmet Mounted Cueing System, or HMCS, will now display just the aiming cross.
If in Dive Toss Bombing mode, you can now designate the target by also depressing the weapon release button on the control stick.
We’ve added three more types of inert training bombs. These include the BDU-50LD low drag training bomb, BDU-50HD high drag training bomb, and the BDU-50LGB laser-guided training bomb.
We have added the final Markpoint option, an overfly Markpoint. To create an overfly Markpoint, select AA master mode, select MARK from the ICP, select the OFLY option, and press TMS forward twice to set the location to the next available Steerpoint in the Markpoint range of Steerpoints. The location is marked with a small yellow cross on the HSD.
Related, to Markpoints, we have also corrected a Markpoint location sometimes drifting on the HSD.
Although not complete, we have added several new datalink functions in this update.
With the HSD as your Sensor of Interest, or SOI, indicated by the box around the periphery, and the COMM switch on the throttle is held to the right for greater than .5 seconds, your current steerpoint will be sent to all your flight members. Your flight members will hear a “data” message and see Markpoint and the Steerpoint number that the location was saved to, 71 to 80. They will also see a large, white cross on their HSD at the sent location. To remove, press the Warning Reset Button on the ICP. You can then slew your HSD cursor over the point and TMS forward over it to set it as your steerpoint.
When the HSD is not SOI and you press long right on the COMM switch, your Sensor Point of Interest will be sent to your flight members. They will see it as a red tringle with a line and the reference number of the flight member. You will also see a dashed, blue line between the flight member and the target.
With a HARM Targeting System, or HTS, pod loaded, you can also send detected locations of radar emitters to flight members. With the HAD as your SOI, designate a contact and press the COMM switch long to the right. Your flight members will see the datalinked location as a yellow sysmbol with a strike through it.
Also, on the HAD, we added the cursor bullseye location. Игры
Man... Wags is such a versatile person... from the AH64D to the F16C... respect for Wags!!! I think ED should make a special about Wags... that would e great...

Looks great! Can't wait for the update. Apache and the Viper has got me sitting on the edge of my seat...
You spelled Kiowa wrong CJ 😂
@@TheCraigievee man I am desperate for the Kiowa.

You guys are killing it, thanks for everything you and the team do Wags!
I love that new audible "kick" you get when you push into afterburner!
All of them are very nice/useful additions for the Viper, but the FM changes are the most anticipated one for me! 🚀🤘
Fantastic work, having watched GS’s video I’m very excited to try the flight model updates. I’m still way too early into the learning process for the Viper to be able to utilise most of the other things you’ve updated, but I appreciate the dedication to realism and hard work put into them and no doubt one day I’ll be able to leverage them.
I love this update! Can’t wait for the ICP/DED to be fleshed out, TOS and CRUS items are on the top of my wishlist! Thanks ED!
DEST and CRUS pages should be available the update after next.
Awesome! The viper has been my number one aircraft since it dropped in early access. I have definitely enjoyed flying it but I’m looking forward to some more fleshed out avionics. I think we’re starting to see a change and hopefully this draws more people to the fold.
Thanks for the update and it’s nice to see the viper get some love!
Yes! Thank you for all your hard work ED!
Adding more meat to the viper, I already think it is coming along great. Also I am really excited for the updated B1 B52 and S3 hope these new models will hit the sim soon as always keep up the great work.
Looks great, thanks! The overfly markpoint feature is especially exciting, it's mentioned a few times in Dan Hampton's "Viper Pilot" as a feature that saved his and others' lives. Can't wait to see how the datalink will increase mission effectiveness, too.
How did this save their lives? I'm rather interested to hear. I like thinking out of the box things
@@ffwrdm8332 true true, I just ordered the book :)
@@ffwrdm8332 If i'm not mistaken, they were in a severe sandstorm in Afghanistan, at night, and had absolutely no visual of the runway, and he was leading in a group of younger pilots, datalinked his own "IFR" approach he made on the spot by landing at the runway, and going around
@@tylersessions2214 Great book!
Hell yeah GS. Great demo and great work!
Hornet, F-16 and soon the Apache. Truly, this is the new golden age of flight sims. Glad to be alive and hopefully good health to all to enjoy it.
For me it’s the Flight model closest to public records is the best one. Great work 👍🏻
Nice, great to see work on the FM
The devs incouraging to watch their game's content creators, i love to see that
Thanks Wags! ED is rockin' it :)
My excitement cannot be contained!!!!
Thanks Matt and ED
thanks for linking the HARM video at the end haha
You know you are great when your YT channel gets mentioned
Nothing like waking up on a Saturday to a viper video

Hell yes! The viper is waking up!
Gotta love the f 16, good job ED. Play your game a lot. Good job.
So happy to see that the Viper is getting more attention from ED. Good job
This is definitely going to be particularly handy...
Love it! Should implement that on the hornet. I mean more accurate data.
Oh Baby
I should have scrolled down farther before commenting. Knew the ellipse would make you happy

Great updates!
Great stuff comming! Btw Wags you didn't wrek MY pre-ordered AH-64D in the latest video?! ;-)
Looking good sir many thanks, is there a separate video detailing how we add recipients to the link 16 group? To be able to receive the data?
I'm still unsure about the SPI transfer over datalink. So when a flight member sends you their SPI, does it do any more than just showing up on the HSI? Are we able to lock on to it, or have it added to our own database like we would a transmitted Steerpoint/Markpoint?
Nice video. MP will be much more interactive with this update. I cant wait to try it out.
This is question to Wags though AFAIK when steerpoint is out side Field of View of JHMCS it should display diamond with X mark over to it to give pilot a direction to look at it.
Do you have plan to implement it in the future?
EPIC!!!
It really feels like DCS has gone way beyond even a study sim. How many players can say they have mastered this kind of sophistication? Incredible!
It’s not that hard it’s just learning practice then muscle memory.
@@RW-zn8vy To be fair, it does take quite a LOT of practice and muscle memory - especially if you want to be proficient in more than one module at a time :)
Yes! Now we only need a dynamic campaign and it's completely awesome (for me). I'm yet to inexperienced in any plane or heli to fly multiplayer (i feel like.).
Depends which sims you fly. DCS is getting there! I wish they'd focus on the -16. It's starting to come together now, which is great to see!
@@paradoxicalcat7173 Yesterday's patch was good news for the 16 :) of course everyone is flying the AH64 now it's out but the Viper got important Flight Model and datalink updates.
I hope to a aim 120 training variant someday, thx for the vid wags
Can we only share WPs and SPIs intra-flight? If yes, then is there a capability for the Viper planned to be able to change Group and Self IDs in-cockpit similarly to the Hog in order to get on the same flight "channel".
Cool capes vid!
I loooove the viper holy crap
The real deal now is to know if the AI wingman is able to engage a target I designated and transmitted, using the command "engage my target" ...
Very great job! Glad to see that the viper is getting lots of love lately. Will datalink contacts be on the HMD soon?
PDLT will come later.
Thanks for the update.
Will be posible to edit the members of the datalink? Its very important for multiplayer. Thanks
I'm so excited I haven't played in a while but I've had this in my pocket waiting for me! When will the update be is it known?
i just paid full price for this jet and was waiting for a sale, but i needed this beauty. i cant get the canopy to close in campaign or mission maker, but it flies good in multiplayer.. i have it on steam.
Shout out to GS! That’s awesome!
Love those practice bombs! :)
Awesome job! I’ve heard that HTS pods from other jets can work together and triangulate SAMs quicker. Is this something that will be implemented alongside the new DL features?
Almost done, but not in time for the next update.
@@MattWagner Cool cool. Looking forward to drooling over these new changes!
@@MattWagner wow guys. You are off the charts with these advanced features. Especially impressed with the datalink work.
Viper team, hard at work!
Nice, any news about the Black Shark? Haven't heard any news since a lot of time.
Is that the new FLIR we’re seeing wags? Or still the old one?
Appreciate the HTS datalink integration. Will TDOA mode make it into the update?
Almost done, but not quite ready for this update.
All around excellent work. Incredible. Would you mind sharing your computer specs?
Please see About section of the channel.
The datalink stuff is a game changer for multiplayer flights!
Yes it is. It makes Hog Driving even more amazing in MP and if/when we get the chance to share targets between A-10s and pointy jets doing SEAD it'll be a leap forward again.
0:44 Shoutout to GS! I think another great way to get more people into DCS and into the Viper would be to partner with real former Viper drivers. For instance, Mace has a really big public following and could also provide a great impartial opinion on the Viper module!
link to his youtube??
@@SDsc0rch I think he is referring to Michelle "Mace" Curran, a former thunderbird. Dont know if she has a youtube channel, but she is pretty active on Instagram.
Great news! Are we gonna get aerial datalink info for the jhmcs like in the hornet in the future?
PDLT will come later.
FLIR in the HUD, Datalink contacts in HUD/HMD please! And it would be nice if the Hornet Datalink contacts in HMD would also display in HUD... But these updates look really good man, thanks for all y'alls work!
Well anyway, if I have DCS on PC, do I have to have a separate installation for beta, or will it just pull it as an update?
I almost forgot, what about the Mission Data Card? Is that still coming?
Thanks again!
Would not be accurate for year, version and OFP. Sorry.
This took a damn long time.
Same with the M61 Vulcan fix.
Any Updates on Stpt 31-54 for HSD lines?
I guess it will require DTC/Mission Planner in order to work properly,
but if the Mission editor would capable of placing these dashed lines for FAORs or Borders it would be amazing
Wags ED has plans about put ground personal in the air bases like the super carrier?
nice update!
one thing tho, does the F16 have all it's real life weapons now? or are there still weapons missing?
One weapon to be added is GBU-24. Everything else is in.
Amazing, can we make a recieved L16 SPI, our own SPI?
Are the received mark or steer points going to be able to be overwritten? I can see situations where all 10 of them could be used up rather quickly. Same with personal markpoints, is there a way to overwrite them?
Matt Wagner, do you use TrackIR or VR?
Hello Mr Wagner. When flying with friends, can we make "our own flights" in the LINK16 DED page? The page was populated but INOP an we could not find a way to set it up. Usually (in the MP enviroment) each plane is on its own group and not possible to see "wingmen" etc on DL.. You had a video on this but would be great to do an update if this has changed. (setting up from both sides + demonstration) Thanks!! :3
Probably not for this update, but certainly planned as we flesh out the DLs.
Question for Wags: does this data get sent just to the sender’s flight, or to all F-16s in the link? Or does it even go BEYOND Vipers to other aircraft?
Is that new PRF audio for the RWR at 7:25?
is the update next week?
Will we also be able to share markpoints and SPIs with warthogs and hornets? I actually don't know if that's a thing in the real deal or not but it seems logical. Anyway I'm super excited for this update, thank you!
That is a thing IRL but most features of it can be classified but they plan to add cross plane datalink in the future :)
Yeah, there exists datalink gates for compatibility
@@arbiter1er but afaik the datalink gate (or is it bridge?) for the SADL L16 hasn't been implimented in game yet, so no A10/F16 data link :(
@@slammerf16 Unfortunately not yet, since it's classified more than a CIA blacksite, but who knows
Will there be a quick update to fix the agm 65 D screen so they are no longer white hot and back to black hot?
nice
Nice
@Matt Wagner, THX for the great features and a great job by the team. But as hornet guy I need to ask, can we hope that some missing MSI and DL functionality will also be added for the Hornet especially the possibility to set up net membership and so on?
They will have to assign devs for that, and there are almost none working on the Hornet. what they do, however, is implement ACLS.
Hello Wags,
As usual wonderful to see the development in this simulator and modules. I do have one question, F-16 related perhaps off topic, regarding IFF mechanics.
Does the F16 have any HUD IFF identification symbology like, lets say the hornet does? (Square lock box = unknown, Diamond = Hostile)? Or is FCR IFF interrogation SCAN and LoS the only way to check and in close combat/furballs, does one have to lock and then LoS IFF and quickly glance at the FCR MFD to see a green/red return?
I cannot seem to find and closing answers to this, or having answers from 2 years old, where IFF was still unfinished/under major development.
Could you shed me some light?
Regards!
Only FCR.
When the update coming ?
Hi everybody! Does anyone else have a problem switching waypoint to auto mode? Mine doesn't work, it always stays in manual.
Awesome work are we able to edit our datalink groups now via the ded. The page is in but doesn't seem to operate fully yet
We look forward to feedback on Flight and Team set up and sharing. Very WIP.
@@MattWagner thanks for the reply looking forward to the future of the viper
Lovely stuff. Will definitely make use of the DL sharing with my wingman on MP. I'm looking forward to the hook though so I can dick about trying to avoid death attempting F16 carrier ops 😅
You will still collapse the Landing Gear every time. lol
It will most likely not catch the wire anyways
If I'm not mistaken the F16 has the ability (like the F18) to see awacs datalink contacts trough the HMD. If so, when will this quite important feature be introduced? Cheers.
Not for the year of our Viper.
cool vid
I think the next Update will be very Big ! I suspect it will even be Version 2.8 🤔
I hope the next open beta update will get rid of goggle vision for VR users so recording will be easier! I don't know why it went to that with 2.7
Are there plans to add the Mk 84 Hi-Drag to the Viper?
forum.dcs.world/topic/278635-dcs-f-16c-viper-roadmap/
Can the 16 send A SPI/Waypoint to a F18 either with this update or one of the next? Or will this be 16s only?
I was also wondering if the link 16 on the hornet will integrate to the link on the viper. This would be fantastic.
Hello Wags
are we going to be able to see L16 contacts on HMCS ? similar to hornet?
also will you add the DMS right long command to slave the tgp to HMCS ?
Just PDLT would be accurate for this version.
@@MattWagner well, that's where a "special option" box could be checked in the menu - unchecked/realistic=PDLT only, checked/tired-of-hearing-about-it=AWACS DL contacts in HUD/HMCS :)
Did the aircraft pitching up during acceleration and down during acceleration change? Or was that FLCS change to takeoff only?
FLCS
I always wondered if this change in FLCS logic from one mode to another couldn’t have been made more smoothly in the real aircraft: I genuinely thought it was a RL quirk…
Cool. How do you slew TGP to SPI? I can do this easily in the Hog
Press CZ (cursor zero) on the TGP MFD:
"Pressing the Cursor Zero (CZ) button on the TGP page will erase system delta, moving the SPI (and the targeting pod) to the original steerpoint location."
@@after_midnight9592 No I want it to move to designated SPI.
@@rajm1976 if you designate spi with a markpoint, just set the steerpoint to that number. Tgp will auto set to the selected steerpoint.
Wags, the targeting pod does a reset after I point track something then hit MRK on the ICP. Is that how it is supposed to work?
I was looking for a target on TGP, and after finding it, I wanted to drop a mark on it. However, it resets my TGP to steer point when it hit MRK... And I have re locate my target again.
Did you remember to hit "CZ" to zero the cursor?
Стоит ли ждать ah-64 раньше 31 марта?возможно ли такое?
Will the inboard long longer than .5 seconds on the com switch require a release before the message is sent?
No
@@MattWagner Awesome! Thanks, I'm really looking forward to this update!
Woah, never this early.
how do I clear the markpoint message from the HUD?
what is the button comm svicht on trothl
I wonder if that's the mike or something else, but the sibilants need to be taken care of. They are especially noticeable on the in-ear buds.
you didn't receive an audio message "Data" when ai #2 sent you spi. Is that normal and you only get the data audio warning when you receive a steerpoint that was shared via datalink ?
No audio "DATA" is used in this circumstance.
@@MattWagner thanks Matt
i am definitly buying this this weekend but do i need a vr headset to play.
nah you dont need VR
Does this mean vipers and hawgs are one step closer to being able to share SPIs?
No, that would not be accurate. The A-10C works through SADL and only PPLIs through a Link 16 gateway is my understanding.
What is the com switch? I literally see nothing for that in the controls.
So if we play on beta will these changes be implemented or are we still waiting for the release?
Planned for the next Open Beta update.
Which block is it meant to simulate now? Or is the F16 model arcade game now in DCS?
Generally, OFP 4.2+
This datalink works only between f16 or some other aircrafts such as a10c2/f18/apache may also recieve data? I'm asking because there is no point in sharing HAD contacts to other f16 since they all have this cheat feature when u see all sams on hsd and it cannot be disabled.
Any date up this update coming?
Should be next week at the earliest
