She also had the nicest parents---They were about the only parents in Hollywood who did not siphon off her earnings for their own use. Almost every parent/guardian, despite the Coogan Law, left their child star almost penniless when they turned 21 by making flimsy excuses in order to get money from the child star's trust fund. Jane's father made sure that Jane's money remained Jane's money.

Recently saw an old interview with Jane Withers - she was 13yrs old, passing herself as 18, when she signed a 7yr contract with the studio. She was able to carry it off, with the help of her father (who obtained an altered birth certificate).
She was a force of nature :)

Jane Wihers was about 14 or 15 when this film was made. She is best known to the younger set as josephine The Plumber in all those Comet C;eanser Commercials. She is with us still at 91 years . She was a rival of the young judy Garland. Also in this picture is Lynne Roberts, a successful "B" actress. She was 18 when the film was made she died in 1979 at 61 years.. She played the freind of Jane and the sister of Joe Brown Jr. who was the Football Star. Joe Brown was the son of Joe E Brown A great Comedic actor.. You can see him in the wonderful movie "Earthworm Tractors". He was born in 1918 and died in 2010 at 92. *****

How late do these students go to school? Jane gats into trouble at a tea scheduled for 4:30 PM; she has Slats helping her out trying to get the lizard and the teacher catches them in the act. After Uncle Henry has Jane answer a question that has Slats saying "That's telling her," Dr. Wallace orders Slats back to class! At 5:00 PM? The Scriptwriter or continuity girl slipped on this scene.

@@belgiumgirl8970 I do enjoy this movie. But anyone with common sense could figure out that there was something wrong with the timing of the scene. I work at a high school and I know I would not be in class after a tea that started after school was out for the day. Besides, it is fun to point out a "goof" in a picture, especially a "B" movie. If this was an "A" movie, unless the film was over budget, the scene would have been reshot. Darryl Zanuck, head of 20th Century Fox, refused to reshoot a finale scene in "Sun Valley Serenade" because Sonia Henie fell in black dye before the scene was completed and the scene was changed to a fadeout to a ski chase scene to finish the picture.

I loved the film and praised it... but I countered with how America is today and why it might be criticized... which is totally wrong, yet true. You evidently do not realize what is going on. It was a sweet movie and there is no way I am going to know you went to that high school as I am not a mind reader. However, you must have had a wonderful experience in such a modern school at the easing-into-end of the great depression. Texas is one of those great states where so many wonderful people came from. Lucky you.

Yes, Jim, you are so right...political "correctness" is a complete scam that generates the biggest attack ever on our freedom of speech. My mom was in this movie playing a bugle in the Lassos Drum & Bugle Corps, so thank you for saying, "The girls are girls and pretty...", because that is so true, especially in describing my beautiful mother, who is now looking down from Heaven. I wish there was a way to bring back those "good old days", or at least the good old days when I attended Thomas Jefferson, 1966-1969, and also marched with the Lassos. GOOOO MUSTANGS!! LOL!!
