Alis Buus The problem was writers and movie makers were terrible at providing roles for young women so that transitioning from childhood to adult roles was extremely difficult and most didn't make it. She played too many dopey teenagers to be accepted as a sexy woman. And the fans didn't want to see her as a villain, which was one way some broke out of their type casting. I liked her in Since You Went Away, except for encouraging her boyfriend to smoke, although I understood he needed symbols of manhood. She was funny in the Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer but that wasn't a meaty role. Like Deanna Durbin, the writers let her down. It was time to quit and find out what it was like to be a mostly normal person. :) (Well, completely normal people don't have fan clubs.)

Shirley Temple was a wonderful actress and a true lady….. after retiring from movies she became a wife, mother and then later in life an ambassador for America…. a truly remarkable woman…. this is a truly wonderful gem in movie history.

Shirley survived being a child actor and growing up on stage doing all this and that . Yet , once she left Hollywood. , she adjusted so beautifully into private life and later in politics . She was a very intelligent woman .
We all suffer a great loss today. As a child I watched your movies over and over and over. I am now blessed with twin 1 year old granddaughters who I will watch them again with. Shirley you will be missed by us all. Lori

Loved the movie. I have watched most of Shirley's movies and loved them all but this one made me laugh. Corliss acting so innocent and sweet to get away with what she wanted but at the same time she was thinking of others. This was a fast pace movie. Such great times back then.

People just saw Shirley Temple the beautiful curly haired petulantly perfect little girl. How could an Icon of childhood innocence become a pin-up girl, or love interest. It is sad... Her kids got a healthier childhood than most Hollywood spawn, IMHO.. It also gave the world a states person of great wisdom and worth. Did we miss some artistry, no doubt - but was her overall contribution more or less important. I am so glad she took the path she did. I feel sorry for young people who don't get this kind of movie. This is a classic comedy dilemma about morals. Like Cary Grant living with a single woman in Japan or Bing Crosby visiting an ex-wife. Same issues as now but they delt with it in humor for the most part while we deal with it in reality shows. Nothing's really changed since biblical times, just the media in which we hear about it. I like how she crosses her fingers first, so she can tell a lie and say it was Dexter fault. Great writing and cute.
It is such a shame that a great child actress like Shirley Temple was later given terrible roles. She had so much potential and so much talent. She was an asset to them and they were careless with her.
My favorite line: when Corliss' father comes back from his walk and greets the family dog, "Hello, Meronica." Completely over the top, seemingly unnecessary, but a master stroke. Beautifully and intelligently written, directed and acted. Fast paced, zany and totally believable. A suspension of disbelief for 90 minutes of great entertainment!
If I'm not mistaken this and BACHELOR AND THE BOBBYSOXER were one of the few films she did in her teenage years that were major hits. There's a sequel to KISS AND TELL entitled A KISS FOR CORLISS, her last movie role, but it wasn't as good

I'll hold the fact that to have a baby or be a "true mother", you have no need of being attached to a man for the rest of your life, nor be ""oficially engaged"". A mother is a mother, married or not. Parents are parents, being united by laws or religions or not. It's sad when a teenage girl gets pregnant, but it's because she is too young and not prepared for that (and adult life in general) yet, and will lost the rest of her teenage. But for mature women who choose that they want to be single mothers or don't want to be attached to their partners (man or other woman) by "law and God", I totally support and feel proud of their courage and their braveness in fighting against old fashionade ideas, caring for her and her baby's happiness only! I have totally NOTHING against couples who choose to marry first before having a baby, who thinks it's what BOTH want to and thinks it's better for their family and future. I just don't like when people thinks everyone, especially only the woman herself, should follow this process to have or care of a baby, as if we are forced to act like this, because if we didn't, just because we aren't legally married (in the church), we can't be mothers, we wouldn't be good mothers or educate our children right and with love. To be married is a choice, to be married is a thing that you have to do only when both people involved truly WANT it and are aware that their lives will change after that. It shoudn't be something forced, artificial, without love, just because you think God only bless couples and parents (especially mothers) after they signed a piece of paper and/or make a religious ceremony.
She was supposed to make more films after A Kiss For Corliss. She was told to got to acting school in Italy as one of the terms of a new movie contract. Instead she met her 2nd husband and kissed the movies goodbye.
The father in the movie of Shirley Temple, was actually pretty cool as far as a Dad of a teenage girl. Mother says she is selling kisses and Dad asks, "how she made out?" Absolutely hilarious on so many levels.

But for mature women who choose that they want to be single mothers or don't want to be attached to their partners (man or other woman) by "law and God", I totally support and feel proud of their courage and their braveness in fighting against old fashionade ideas, caring for her and her baby's happiness only!
I have totally NOTHING against couples who choose to marry first before having a baby, who thinks it's what BOTH want to and thinks it's better for their family and future. I just don't like when people thinks everyone, especially only the woman herself, should follow this process to have or care of a baby, as if we are forced to act like this, because if we didn't, just because we aren't legally married (in the church), we can't be mothers, we wouldn't be good mothers or educate our children right and with love. To be married is a choice, to be married is a thing that you have to do only when both people involved truly WANT it and are aware that their lives will change after that. It shoudn't be something forced, artificial, without love, just because you think God only bless couples and parents (especially mothers) after they signed a piece of paper and/or make a religious ceremony.

Shirley Temple played the character of Corliss Archer again in the 1949 movie A Kiss For Corliss. That movie was the final one for Shirley.
She was supposed to make more films after A Kiss For Corliss. She was told to got to acting school in Italy as one of the terms of a new movie contract. Instead she met her 2nd husband and kissed the movies goodbye.

The father in the movie of Shirley Temple, was actually pretty cool as far as a Dad of a teenage girl. Mother says she is selling kisses and Dad asks, "how she made out?" Absolutely hilarious on so many levels.
