Kudos on spanning the entire timeline in these videos. Coming back to the game after decades away these videos actually make me want to consider playing in eras after the Clan invasion
DAY-vion is the anglophile pronunciation, DAW-vion is the Francophile pronunciation. I have heard both but the only "official" media I have seen use it outside of some audiobooks is MechCommander. Most of the time I hear as DAY-vion and as House Davion is suppose to be equivalent to the British Empire in Btech.
Rotary AC is faaaaaantastic. I wish that they would have made the Clint a more prevalent mech in the universe. Its the perfect mech for FedSuns. 40 tons AC5 with 2 medium lasers for backup. Not many light medium mechs with AC.
I am a fan of both RACs and the Clint. But I don't really like them together. I would strip out the Clints AC5 and replace it with either a PPC or ER LL. The 2-3 tons leftover I would use for double heat sinks and armor.
The Clint is an old favorite! Had quite a few RPG games where I ended up with one. I always replaced that AC/5 with an energy weapon and armor, as well.
Thanks for mentioning the warhammer and phoenix hawks. I have both in my davion company, but always found the warhammer to be a bit underwhelming. This one looks really good. Seems like both just get rid of the redundant weapons and exchange them for extra heat sinks.
House Davion has always been my favorite faction. This was a great breakdown of their preferred mechs. I have to say that I would have liked to see the MAD-3D and 5D.
Wait, before I even watch the video let me guess. This will have the Warhammer WHM-6D, the Javelin JVN-10N and its sweet successor the JVN-10F, and finally the Phoenix Hawk PXH-D. Let's watch and see if I'm right. Edit: Looks like I was right about the Warhammer and the Phoenix Hawk. Also that Penetrator is so fun. I find they work great supporting a lance of assault mechs. It is like the ultimate bodyguard mech and it just chews up lights and mediums that try to get in close.
Another good entry in the list. Looks like it's just Liao next - but please make sure to do a list for us Periphery denizens who refuse to bow to the tyranny of the Successor Lords!
I see your Falconer, and raise you a Timber Wolf S. (Yes it's expensive, but it's worth every BV point 😊) The Penetrator is a classic. One of my faves in that early clan invasion era. Such a tough beater, good at all ranges, gets huge BV discounts on the pulse lasers due to how BV is calculated with heat scale. You can't ask for a better heavy cavalry mech tbh. Great as an escort for snipers(it is not really a dedicated sniper, but 2 ERLLs is pretty strong) and it's got just enough mobility to intercept enemy cavalry if they're gunning for your backline. One thing I do recommend is dumping some of the ammo out of the AMS pre-game. It has a tendency to blow up, and it's not like you're gonna need more than say.... 6 shots of AMS ammo. I find that allowing this(without altering BV value) is a good way to balance some of the more... questionable choices some designs make with regards to ammo.(im looking at you 200 rounds of machine gun ammo.)
I love the Davion phoenix Hawk variants I like the Warhammer 6D but mainly because it was among the easiest tech level one Mechs to customize into something I adored. Just replace the extra leg armor with jump jets and away I went. I occasionally ran a Falconer with the Gauss Rifle replaced with a second ER PPC and extra Heat Sinks. And the Penetrator is my all time favorite official Mech design.
I've been waiting for this one. Glad to see the love for the 3025 Warhammer. I'm starting to think you like the LB-10X as much as mechfrog love plasma cannons 😂
If you just ignore the nonsensical minimum range on some autocannons it goes a long way to making them much more useable. My personal houserule, it still feels fine even at the current BV values, try it out.
@@EvilTwinn I wouldn't hate a re-write of both autocannons and missles to be more worth it for sure, but I just can't stand the idea of a cannon being harder to shoot somone closer.
When in the real world the Clan Invasion happened many players rejected many of the 3050 machines in favor of their favorite 3025 mechs. The Warhammer 6D was one of those 3025 mechs that REALLY helped make a stand against the clanners. ALSO-I usually try to be positive but skipping the Marauder MAD-3D to focus on the Rakshasa should be considered a war crime. It was so good that the Dragoons copied the Davions replacement of the AC with a large laser on the Marauder II MAD-4A.
While I LOATHE Davion for the reason you alluded to in the beginning, they do occasionally make a great mech. That Warhammer variant, Falconer, and Penetrator are all loads of fun.
I think the Wolverine 6D is pretty good (in theory at least). Heavily armored 5/8/5 that has enough mobility and ammo to get a precision AC/10 on target
12:45 there's a Fed Suns Jinggau refit with a command console that is really quite nice. Clan ERPPC and stealth armor and enough heat sinks to use both. LVSPL and some SVSPLs for knife work. Probably not BV efficient.
Plus if you add Weapon Specialist that -3 becomes -5. It's really nice. Home brew rule I like that if they 0 or lower in their to hit numbers it is automatic hit. Plus with Gunnery skill of 0.
The centurion is also a good one. In the introtech era, the CN9-AL is a great bodyguard. For the clan invasion, the cn9-D is interesting in that it’s a Phoenix hawk 1k that has long range fire, or a grand dragon (5k) for less bv.
@ while that is true, the centurion has always been like that. In the original cn9-A, that’s why it’s so ludicrously cheap. But this has a benefit with the fact it’s going to be able to use alternative ammunition types. In addition, if you want another decent succ wars ac/10 caddy, look at the Wolverine 6D.
I'm still sad we never got an updated Hammerhands variant with 2 LB-10/X or 2 plasma rifles. Get it to 4/6 movement, and it's basically a more Davion Warhammer.
god i hate that the FS suddenly was made a AC using state when in the original they had removed AC's and ammo weapons like the hammer and MAD , so the change to everything now being a AC unit made no sense but well FASA never did checking ever i forgot about the Black Knight 12 strange as a PC i had for a RPG game use one such a a good machine
The Sagittaire is an Urban combat mech and performs poorly outside of a city. I basically consider the Sagittaire a replacement for the Stalker but would pair the Sag up with a Stalker STK-7D. In an one on one fight. The Awesome AWS-9Q will consistently win vs the SGT-8R. The SGT-10X is a deadly upgrade and the SGT-9D is a good C3 leader mech. I always like paired LB 10-X AC’s as they are nice vs aerospace fighters and VTOL’s and the combo of Nightstar and Sag becomes an option in the 3070’s. As many of the good mechs are expensive on the BV but perform well with regular and veteran pilots. A good Davion play would splice in vehicles and battle armored infantry into the line that are much cheaper on BV. The Goblin and Manticore with the LPL are good examples as the pulse laser would permit a 4/5 crew to be more accurate. I like the fact that the Falconer was pointed out. In 3025 the Davions have wonderful all-energy line-ups for their prized pilots. The the faction was greatly interested in the survival of the MechWarrior and the mech. The mechs in this video are well appreciated and I do play with them when I am Davion that day. Well done and I do see room for a part two.
And being an English speaker (instead of an American speaker) I can confirm you say the name Davion properly. Until American AI takes over, there is in fact a proper way to speak English that has nothing to do with how any individual feels it should evolve for their personal use.
Also Targeting computers were better before they were nerfed. Called shots with Large pulse lasers. Rotary autocannons could hit a single armor locations with multiple rounds. Sigh.
Davion uses tactics and strategy too fight mostly superior enemy forces, not the other way around (unless you have very poor opinion of Capella and just focus on that front). As such they field versatile mechs with mobile firepower. You may be thinking the size of their realm would suggest otherwise but that just spreads them out further. Maybe later when they combine forces with Uber-merchant-Assault-scouts (with their literal bias) for one war, but I wouldn't count that as Federated Suns at that point.. I find it funny that literally every faction has their overpowered Mary sue moments but all those fans think the one actual force in the setting using real military tactics are only winning cause of plot armor simply because they have no idea how real wars are fought on logistics and brains instead of big gun go stompy stomp.... Contrary to what Hollywood would have you believe, if you fight with emotion instead of brain, you always lose. You may lose so bad you don't even realize it, but you've still lost.
Thanks for giving this Capellan a list of preferred targets. Great video.
The Capellans ARE the preferred targets

In universe house hatred aside they do have some interesting and unique mechs.
