GUYS We will be waiting for that first wash video....I really want to see how this car looks clean. OMG just a teaser on the dash he did on the clean up and OMG this sucker is a GEM..
About 3 times you said "I forgot ..." Put a kit together, hopefully it will make your life easier. Love to see it cleaned out and so glad we don't have "smell-a-vision".
Yes I noticed that. The yellow much brighter in the car wash and the front windscreen had restored itself !. (Aren’t we wicked !……a good barn find Jason, your best yet )…
I am so envious of all the different kinds of "finds" you have in your region. It's probably the only reason I'd ever consider living anywhere but where I do. Classic vdubs aren't so easy to come by around here.
I've been a mechanic since June of 72, VWs were the only cars I did until the mid 80's, then Japanese imports and European cars. I love when someone brings in a beetle or a thing, and asks if I know how to work on it. Great find.
As barn finds go that was a genuine one. Jason I also thought it was while at first glance but another yellow. It looks OK compared to some you find just need to disinfect it😂. Thanks again Jason for taking the time to share your adventure. 👍
at least this time I showed up with 2 batteries and a new 12k winch😁. Thank you Joseph , it is , but a new windshield and some tap , tap a roo and it'll be all good
When you had the wheel off, you just needed to smack the brake shoes through the lug holes to free those brakes. No need to worry about lining up with the adjuster. And always use soapy water or simple green to spray in there, instead of any oil based solvents. That way, if the brake shoes are good, you might be able to reuse them once you have it all apart. Soapy water won't contaminate those shoes. Nice find. Love the dust layer on top. I just pulled a 66 sunroof beetle from a barn in MN a couple months ago. Been in there since 96, and off the road since 86.I gutted the brakes, repacked the wheel bearings, topped off the trans and flat towed the thing 1200 miles. It's in the shop, and will be drivable before the end of the year. This is a fun hobby. Nice fake out job with the super beetle at the end.
Hi Corey , good tip on a little punch through the bolt hole . Flat towing or tow bar towing is just not for me ....but hauling 80 Vw's on a my old single axle trailer at 80 mph didn't phase me haha....it would now that I have the new trailer . Nice find , I have a 66 sunroof Beetle and I love it , the 1300 runs great. Good luck with yours , sounds like you will having a great summer 👍.
@@5150mxVW I didn't have a trailer option, so I made the bug into a trailer by gutting the entire braking system. My towbar is a little different in that it uses large U-bolts to attach the bar to the beam. Zero slop in the system makes the towing experience much better. Thanks for the good thoughts. Can't wait to drive this bug around in in nice summer weather.
I likey! Your finds just keep getting better and better. The steel roof sunroofs are quite nice. I have a '66 Pearl white sunroof with Pigalle interior, and they are lots of fun! Can't wait to see yours tidied up a bit!
My first car was a '64 Beetle with sunroof. Someone painted it black and it had seats out of a '71. It had also been converted to the 12v but still had the 6v sticker. During my senior year in high school the 1100cc that was in it finally gave out and I replaced it with a 1500 from a '69. I wished I had never sold it after buying a '73 Beetle but I was young then. Just seeing this barn find brought back a lot of memories.
I have a tow bar just like that. Works pretty good the few times I've used it. Good for towing straight ahead, not so for backing up, the wheels turn and it gets pretty crazy!
Hi Craig , I have used a tow bar a couple times and the front tires just didn't track , due to it only being a chassis maybe ? Trailer is a nice piece of mind
@@5150mxVW I found that if I tied the steering wheel so it didn’t turn I had fewer issues with the car “wobbling”. The kind of finds you haul a trailer is a must!( and a working winch! Lol)
Another amazing find, hard to believe there are any finds left in CT. Surprised you didn't try and get it started and drive it home. Cant wait to see more videos on this treasure.
With each barn find of yours I have beetle envy. 😍 I want another one………..someday, I hope. Although, I would prefer one that’s cleaner, lol! It’s on my bucket list.
Back in the mid 70s I ran a VW shop in Norwalk, but on the other side of town. There were two VW specialty shops in town at the time and that wasn't one of them. By the 90s neither one was still in business. Hopefully the guy knew what he was doing.
It’s a shame the glass is broken and the roof is damaged other than that it doesn’t look to bad, nice find I think. Strange to see you recovering a bug but not cutting a forest down to get it out! 😁 Have a happy Christmas
Aw you aren't even trying anymore. No laying in the mud digging wheels out with a shovel. No flat tires (in the video). No pinecones. You even got the new winch. Now park it in the garage next to Jen's car for a couple weeks. LOL Great fun video as always. Let's see what is in it.
Excellent video Jason :) also find should check barn if spare tires plus rims and parts may need ! Hopefully you get more videos on too and would get vechile paint mask with thick gloves when cleaning out interior plus trunk plus engine compartments too! Just so get sick or sharp stuff cut hands plus body even wear body suit !
Well that's a nice find at least not another liquid cooled car. Confession time Jason I did own a 70s Volkswagen Rabbit only one. It was a winter beater I bought for a hundred dollars and later sold. (back in my fabrication days it will fit) So my second liquid VW the Audi contraption. But it was fast 😁
Not this one, but one just like it was my first car, 64' with tin sunroof. I was 6'7"a\ and popped off the seat stop tabs to move the seat back farther. Tannish beige color, same. Driving in the Finger Lakes Region of NY was a blast. If I got stuck, I got to and lifted to one side or the other. I could sit on the back of the drivers seat with my head and shoulders out of the sunroof and still reach the stick and pedals. Wish I still had her!
Albert, er uh, Bud, er, uh, I mean Jay, you're a man before his time. While others have "will it run" videos (a dime a dozen) you have "will it push" videos. Our 63 based dune buggy came with a real similar tow bar. One side had a real official looking pin. The other had a bent over gutter nail. Lol. It came in handy when we recovered it out of its 32 year slumber. It was a lot easier dragging it out of where it was at with an f350 and a hitch ball😎.
