- Rare 1963 Volkswagen Beetle ragtop car pulled from it's long hibernation of 27 years rescued! Can we get it back on the road for it's first drive?

Richard got his tiny garage back! When you asked what he paid for it back then and he chuckled at first, he sure knows you can't score them for that price now a days! This is a nice find. It would be a keeper for me.

That's in unbelievable shape for a 1963 in New England. My first car was a 1963 Bug, purchased in 1982 and it had more rust on it then than your's does now.

This one really hit home for me! My very first car was a slate gray 63 ragtop...seeing you bonding with that car just filled me with joy??? I so wish that I had held on to that car,! I used to go to sleep with my J.C.Whitney catalog figuring out what I was going to do next! Thank you so much for giving an old man this kind of memory wash. It truly made me happy!

Nothing quite like a ragtop beetle. I have not yet owned one, but I have ridden in them. Such a fantastic feeling when cruising down the road.

Sweet! Wish I still had my '67 . . . . As a West Coast guy I am often struck by the dedication you guys have back East dealing with all the rust etc. not to mention the amount of mouse activity, crazy! Have fun with that '63!
what a beautiful car. I have really learnt to appreciate old model cars through channels like this. These cars have a nostalgic beauty about them. This one to me, was in pretty good conditions. Dash interior in good condition. love it! Looking forwrd to seeing it detailed. wow!

Most impressive! That one truly is a nice find. Beetles from that era were pleasant cars in many ways. I have a 48,000 mile '62 in original Beryl Green, and wouldn't part with it for anything! Have you noticed that those flat fours seem to get heavier as each year goes by...

Nice find, Jason. And it still has that VW "thunk" when you close the door! On the Meese problem, I've found mixing peppermint essential oil with a carrier oil like almond oil works to keep the little bastards away. They can't stand that minty smell.

Wire brush, Drill and some rust converter. Fix the mechanical.......Perfect driver. Good to go.

Thats a solid foundation for going many directions, I'd keep it from a restoration at this point in its life. just fix the obvious and enjoy the time capsule.

What great condition! Your 63 rag top reminds me of my first car, a 65 solid roof. I learned a helluva lot about cars with that one, i only rebuilt that engine once! 😁

I won't say that is the best car you have had because i might be wrong but it is a real solid car well done for getting it. Looks like there are some minor bodywork repairs but thats so easy for a man of your skills. A new rag top and some cleaning throw In the spare engine and your good to go. 51/51 of all my hats off to you nice score....... with a gentleman bought the Volkswagen 27 years ago..... it’s on old route one west of West Brook if you’re headed west on old rt1 it was on left inside of art deco building gas station repair shop porcelain tile on the front big picture windows on it......I know the place well,,,, he must’ve worked at Donnelly’s which was a magazine publication place is closed now!!!!!!!!!!!! with notorious back in the 20s 30s and 40s ,,,,,matter fact it was so busy!!!!!! certain trains ran on the New York New Haven and Hartford railroad had a schedule stop in there so they could load the baggage railroad cars with the magazines and newspapers quite the place in heyday little bit history they’ll be a test. Hope you’re ready for the dust off of May 1 I think a dub works and look great driving it stay warm stay healthy junk man do

As always another great video. That is a great find. Usually cars from CT are rotted away as you know. That car looks pretty solid. Also, i know you and mustie1 are friends. I tried to reach out to him as I have an old snowblower and riding mower im looking to get rid of. If im overstepping please just disregard but I just thought he might be interested. Both ran great 1 year ago when I parked them. Anyway great video.
My dad had a red 1958 roll top like that in the 1960s when I was a young lad. Lots of memories in that car.

Bought a 1961 sunroof in 1966 35000 miles needed clutch and paint for 99 dollars at a Chevrolet dealership restored with my Dad was 14 went on to own about 20 more
My '63 Ragtop was the same color originally. Nice car

Back in the mid 1970's I owned two 1963 VW's, the first was a convertible. There were many on the road then.
