hey here is a small trick i’ve been using for years Walmart sells older style oil cans with a 5 or 6 inch nozzle on them and a trigger pump it’s excellent for squirting Marvel Mystery into a spark plug hole or any other crevice on a motor ! plus it’s handy to have around for lubricating whatever they are some brass looking metal and i’ve kept one in the bilge of my boat for over 15 years that sits in salt water enviorments the thing for a cheap tool has held up fine all those years ? it’s way easier than your funnel system i’m not sure what you paid for the old Baja but it’s cool that it runs with not much effort i’ve had some really good memories in air cooled VWs in my 55 years i bought a 72 really rusty and crusty one from a old co worker for a couple of hundred bucks and some used car tires i pulled off a used car as the guy i bought it from used it to get thru college and we all didn’t even think it would survive or make the 4 hour drive to or from his school i was shocked to see him 4 years later driving the car he knew i liked Bugs and asked if i knew anyone that wanted his when i picked it up my best freind drove it home on dead tags while i followed him and the car with a tow rope he backed it into the driveway so we had a little light from the garage to look into the engine bay the two of us laughed our asses off when we saw 2 spark plugs on their wires dangling out of the holes but the motor was still running and drove the car home from our buddies 4 hour drive from college ! when i asked the guy about the car he said i’m not sure why but it’s running slower than it used to i think the next day i went to look at the bug in the daylight and realized both those plugs were stripped so i went to a local VW repair shop and asked those guys if there was a solution to this when they asked me what Volkswagen i had they laughed because they knew that Bug before the guy went to college and couldn’t believe it was still going ! those guys sold me a heliopolis kit and told me how to use it i really had my doughts but went home and did what they told me and it worked ! it seemed to run better on 4 cylinders a few days later my Dad asked me if i knew of any decent used cars for sale around town for my younger sister to drive back and forth to community college which i did not yet i mentioned to him i had just bought the old Beetle and what i discovered so we ordered a Brazilian rebuild kit from our parts store for $110 dollars with all the gaskets new pistons and rings etc everyone told us that it was junk and we should only use German parts but we pulled the motor nothing more than a drill hone to smooth out the pistons and we put it all together with the parts in the kit and found the old girl running okay i wound up giving my sister the car and told her i’m not sure how long it will run but she used it for 4 years and still talks about her first car with love she did actually give it back to me 4 years later and i drove it to my friends house where we pulled the motor and over 35 years later that same motor is still running in another Beetle with all those Brazilian parts everyone said will never last ? my Old Man was a VW guy as he had purchased a 58 and a 63 brand new and drove them all over the place my Mom still remembers the 63 had a payment of fifty something dollars a month that they paid religiously no matter what and with 2 babies my Dad was a expert on tying things to the outside of that 63 like carriages ,play pens ,and whatever else she needed to travel around with us they lived in New York city and used to drive 100 miles to my grandparents home in the Catskills Mountains upstate New York she remembers my Dad putting two dollars into the gas tank and saying he thinks that’s enough to get them there she didn’t know how much was in the tank but it got them there she also said she used to get tired watching my father shifting to get up and down the hills ! and complaining about the defroster in the winter time as he fidgeted with the controls between the seats while driving i was born in 64 and i still remember riding in that car as a matter of fact we went to a drive in movie to see Herbie the Love Bug and i remember my Dad laughing hysterically at the movie

@@5150mxVW ....Absolutely! That's how I learned ...but instead of a vw,it was an old 69' Ford Ranger/3 on th' tree...I hated that thang! At the time I did, hell I was 10,lol! I'd probably love it now though! But yeah,my dad used to let me drive the fire wood back to the house after spending all day in the woods, that's all we used it for. That, and hauling the garbage off, sometimes I'd pitch a fit cause I didn't want to,but I'm glad I was made to do so...hell,my dad probably didn't enjoy it either, lol! Good times!🤘
For carbs that bad, I’ll usually use my baking soda blaster before the ultrasonic cleaner. They normally come out looking like new. And I just use plain water with some Simple Green HD mixed in. Doesn’t discolor aluminum carb bodies and a jug of it lasts for a very long time. Don’t use regular Simple Green. It can discolor some carb bodies.
Jason, I got my cheap handheld blaster from Horror Fright. And you can get a big bag of Arm & Hammer at Sam’s Club. It also works great for cleaning spark plugs. I blast them and toss them in the cleaner. The best part is that any leftover baking soda simply dissolves in the water.
We had about 5 inches of snow a day or so ago. The 67, 007 is in the garage for the winter. I am thinking about putting it up on jack stands put the cover on it and hunker down until spring!
5150mxVW Yes, But the snow is gone for now. But it is in the high 20s low 30s almost every night so it could snow at any time. Don’t drive it in the rain either. It’s ready to pull out of the garage and drive. If I know it is going to be nice outside I will take it out. It’s completely rust free and want to keep it that way.
Hey boss so I got a question for your since you seem to be a pro. How do I figure out what your my Volkswagen bug is? Somebody told me as a 73 when I bought it but I know it's not. I think it's a 64 but not sure
Hi Billy , I am no pro but check the vin # on the tunnel under the rear seat and also the body tag by spare tire or inner front fender well . Check to see both vins match and if you wish reply back with the vin # leaving that last # off I can check it for you ....or you could do a vin check yourself on the samba website .
The biggest difference, if it hasn't been changed, the 64 is a 6 volt and the 73 is a 12 volt. The 73 has a longer nose (hood). The 63 has the spare upright and I believe the 73 the spare is layer flat.
@@5150mxVW no I just use carb cleaner without it Maybe because it is warmer here it works better. I use plain carb cleaner and get good results just twisting the strainer around a bit then letting it sit for about 10 minutes one more twist then 10 more minutes then pull it out hit it with some carb spray in a couple places and its clean.
Ain't oil flammable? I think the cleaner will work a lot better with the heater on. There's some law where every 10c of heating makes a cleaner X more effective or efficient.

Good times!🤘

haha , not the 1st time , thank you John
I enjoyed the conversation you had with Josh about his first car. Awesome video. Keep em coming bud
Thank you John , much appreciated
Josh's Opinion always counts the most to me
👍
For carbs that bad, I’ll usually use my baking soda blaster before the ultrasonic cleaner. They normally come out looking like new. And I just use plain water with some Simple Green HD mixed in. Doesn’t discolor aluminum carb bodies and a jug of it lasts for a very long time. Don’t use regular Simple Green. It can discolor some carb bodies.
baking soda blasters are sweet . I have not tried the HD simple green yet but I have discolored an Mx carb with the regular stuff . Thank you John
I want Mustie to work on my car :) love that young man
haha , smart kid , thank you GJ
Josh is a rockstar and very smart!
Thank you Ralph , but he hasn't touched his Strat in months
second that sharp kid
We had about 5 inches of snow a day or so ago. The 67, 007 is in the garage for the winter. I am thinking about putting it up on jack stands put the cover on it and hunker down until spring!
What ???? SNOW , 5 " already !!!????
5150mxVW Yes, But the snow is gone for now. But it is in the high 20s low 30s almost every night so it could snow at any time. Don’t drive it in the rain either. It’s ready to pull out of the garage and drive. If I know it is going to be nice outside I will take it out. It’s completely rust free and want to keep it that way.
Good "start" to a solid project to be shared with your son
thank you David👍
She’s a runner!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
:) , thank you👍
Aw man, he's a little ballbuster! Got to get Mustie to look at it!
haha, yep
love to see a good ending to a great story, thanks
thank you Brian
gotta get me one of those cleaners for the LB still rolling.
you don't have one ?
@@5150mxVW no I just use carb cleaner without it Maybe because it is warmer here it works better. I use plain carb cleaner and get good results just twisting the strainer around a bit then letting it sit for about 10 minutes one more twist then 10 more minutes then pull it out hit it with some carb spray in a couple places and its clean.
It's a runner :)
👍
Well done getting another engine resurrected.
thank you RR👍
Good work a follower from Benghazi libya🇱🇾
Was that just water in the ultrasonic bath? Or a solvent too?
an unnamed solvent that I would not apply too much heat too
are you trailering m something to the show tomorrow? is that a 6 volt starter in the bug ? she spins fasssst!
my cars have a better shot at making it vs my trailer haha ....sounds like it to me too ...I love 6v starters in 12v cars👍
gotta love a childs honesty mustie 1 has some work to do love it
haha , and smarts :)
Bugs are so much when they sputter back to life!!!; )
:) I agree👍 , thank you Richard
Can you PLEASE make a video on how to wire a remote starter for a VW bug/ghia? I bought one at a yard sale for a dollar but don’t know how to wire it.
Fil , did you get the push button two wire / clip style ?
5150mxVW yes. 2 alligator clips on a red button handle.
Fil Mart one clip goes on the stud that the battery cable attaches to . The other goes on the #50 / ignition wire post .
Good job! Would love to get a project car with my kids one day.
Stuart Hughes thank you , I hope you do , it’s good stuff :)
Ain't oil flammable?
I think the cleaner will work a lot better with the heater on. There's some law where every 10c of heating makes a cleaner X more effective or efficient.
Hi , I had the heat on but around 30 c if I recall , I didn't want to go too warm with the solvent . Thank you for the tip👍
"I think Mustie needs to do some work on it first" LOL!
RON BUTLER haha , yep 👍, My son is smart what can I say :)
very smart kid ,eh?
