    Using it all the time with M lenses.
    My cameras are all set to Catch in Focus enabled. But sometimes I would like manual focusing ... so I set back AF button to disable AF. When I use M lens and actually want MF, when center AF point is not in focus, I press back AF button to cancel "catch in focus" and camera fire normally. Before I figured out this hack I lost quite few moments since camera did not want to fire and before I switched camera MF lever in MF mode, moment lost. Now I just press that button and camera instantly cencel focus trapping and act normal MF camera. :) I really love how much options and combination can be set with Pentax.

      @LeeIveson  3 года назад

      That's a good point, I noticed that with the K-70 you can set it to AF2 & catch in focus still works, but this does not seem to work with the K3.

    • @cdmikelis
      @cdmikelis 3 года назад +1

      @@LeeIveson It works on my K3ii ... wait a second, let me see: CiF=enabled (K5ii=25, K3ii=24 "menu" item), Usign aperture ring = enable/permitted (K5ii=27, K3ii=26), Button Customization => AF button=Cancel AF & ShutterButtonHalfPress=enable AF (K5ii), but on K3ii there is only ONE menu item in Button Customization; the half-press and AF button are under one menu. Type1, Type2 and Cancel AF. If you want normal half press AF and CiF and cancel CiF (to get MF), you need to set "AF button=Cancel AF" and it will work same as with K5ii (or K70 or any previous K...) in two separate menu items.

    Yes, the K/KM/KA lenses are spectacular for video. Not brutally sharp like modern lenses, but enough fall off to be flattering to skin detail. The P67's are the same, but more detail and background separation.
    M100 comment, you'd hate the K-01 then 😁

    Thanks Lee, your videos have led me to invest a few quid on the K70 - much to the annoyance of my other half who is fully aware of the thousands of pounds I already have 'invested'! I shall use this technique with it and let you know how I get on.

      Really! That's awesome Mark, the CIF feature is really nice its a great option to try when freezing action when you know or can predict the subjects movement path. It works great with the Pentax-A series lenses, a very affordable option with those lenses too. Cheers (Don't let your wife know I had anything to do with your GAS syndrome haha)

    1) for an old blind bat like me cat in focus is a God send. 2) check, and make sure that the A setting on the aperture ring is engaged. Once on the A setting you should not have to set the focal length on the camera. Now I have to dig out my 70-210mm A lens. I was lazy after watching you video and grabbed my old MF off brand 400mm f5.6 and went outside to take it for a spin. Tomorrow after work I'll head out with the 70-210. In the old days a heavy camera and lens got you steady photos. I used to just attach a mono pod just hanging from the camera to lower the center of gravity to stabilize it. I kept the mono pod retracted. Try it sometime. These people who want mirrorless in order to save weight are gonna find out that they will need image stabilization more than ever. With an AF tele lens I try to hold it close to the body as possible to increase the stability.

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  3 года назад

      Haha focus confirmation is a nice sound! I did have the lens set to the A setting but the camera still wanted the focal length, it can detect the aperture value but not the focal length?

    Hi Lee, I tried this out with the exact same lense and the K-5 (will try with the K-3 II later), and it does work, as long as I push the shutter release button manually. My understanding was it should work with a cable release also, but it doesn't in my case, though the cable release has a stop position. Did you try with a cable release as well? Anyway, thanks a lot for the great tutorial, merry christmas and happy holidays.

    Putting the focal length in only matters for IBIS on the K3 / K3 II so it knows how much to compensate.

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  3 года назад

      Ah so the camera will increase stabilization for the longer focal lengths. I though it was for exif data?

    • @imageandsound1513
      @imageandsound1513 3 года назад +2

      @@LeeIveson It will work for data as well, but the primary reason is so the camera knows how much IBIS is needed.

      Yep they are hard to "catch in focus" 😅 But I have managed it before with the 70-210. I really wish there was some way of Pentax updating firmware to enable CIF from any fo us point instead of just the center point 🤔 This feature would X10 in keepers as we would have the option of composing in camera much better!

K.M.A and M42...I find myself using my Fuji X-t2 camera for all Pentax manual lenses as it give you much of what is lacking on the Pentax bodies when it comes to focus peaking. "Catch in focus" is pretty cool though. Thanks for turning me on to this technique.
