      It's a massive improvement, throughout the day it was just so nice to use. Pretty much had every shot from the day in focus! I can genuinely say it's a huge step up in comparison to my K3 original. I'd love to see what the 70-210mm f4 or 70-200mm f2.8 would produce with this camera!

      Nice, there's no hockey games over my way! I've yet to take the K3 & K3iii out together, but I've got plans to do that. I'm a little scared to find out how far the AF has improved over the original K3 🙈

      🤣 I never intended the video to go on for that long so I'll have to make a "brake down" video and go over what I thought about the AF tracking modes. What I can say is that it is a huge improvement for any Pentaxian who wants to shoot moving subjects!

    • @daellis130
      @daellis130 11 месяцев назад +1

      Watching with keen interest as I'm thinking about trying to get into motorsport photography. My k70 and 55-300plm is good, but using "manual" (rapid thumb) focus I'm likely to be missing more "golden moments" than I'd like.

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  11 месяцев назад +1

      @daellis130 That's still a good combo, many of my best shots came from the K-70 and 55-300PLM. But I must say that the K3iii is 100% a step up in all departments from my time spent using the camera so far.

  • @jbp6759
    @jbp6759 9 месяцев назад +1

    Wow, it seemed to perform great no matter the settings. The last set did have a few out of focus but still did great. lol, Nice, Pentax. I would love to see this done with a slower-focusing lenses also, may show a difference in the focus settings better as well. Or maybe we'd all be surprised and it would do a fine job even with an SDM lens... who knows! Would be an awesome test!

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  9 месяцев назад +1

      That's what I thought when I got home and took a look at the shots, I was like there's no difference it got pretty much every shot 😅 sadly I've sold all of my SDM lenses so can't do that test at the moment, the 55-300PLM is the only telephoto lens I currently own for my Pentax (bar my old 70-210 f4). Maybe I'll pick somthing up in the telephoto range to test with the K3iii soon, I now want to find out too haha 😄

      @LeeIveson I've chatted with a photographer that loves his 150-450 for motorsports, with the k3iii. He had the Sigma 100-300 f/4 before that and adored it but it broke and he couldn't find another. If you can find that Sigma I think you'd be in love. Smaller and lighter than the 150-450.

    The image results speak for themselves. The AF is pretty amazing in this camera. Ricoh needs to release more fast focusing lenses for it.

      Oh can you imagine a 50-135 f2.8 PLM or 70-200 f2.8 PLM. Even bring back the Green Star 135mm f1.8 with PLM!

    • @TheSquirrelMafia
      @TheSquirrelMafia 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@LeeIveson I can imagine that it would be awesome. I had been waiting for a revamped version of the DA* 50-135mm f/2.8, but after reading the Ricoh interview on PetaPixel, it looks like a revamp of that lens isn't in Ricoh's plans for now. 😟

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  11 месяцев назад

      @@TheSquirrelMafia Yes it seems that they have different plans 😟

    • @TheSquirrelMafia
      @TheSquirrelMafia 11 месяцев назад

      @@LeeIveson I would love to see all the SDM DA* lenses revamped with newer AF motors. The DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 PLM & DA* 11-18mm f/2.8 DC are very nice. The DA* 16-50mm PLM is practically glued to my K-3II. I'd buy each revamped DA* as they're released.
      Who knows what Ricoh plans on doing for now. They're currently all over the place with all these ideas & projects, but it seems like they don't have enough staff and/or resources to do what they want. I guess it's just a waiting game for now.🤔

    Hey Lee!!
    Here in Eastern Canada (Quebec), we're actually the opposite; seem to be having a cool front! But feels good to be honest.. we had that major heat wave a week-2 ago. Love autumn weather... I just realized, feels like was just last week I watched your autumn challenge video! Crazy man... 😅
    I was wondering what you thought about the K-3iii in terms of autofocus compared to the Canon you have. Naturally, lens has an impact, but in terms of keeping up, do you feel Pentax have only done big leaps compared to themselves? or do you feel like it has put them somewhat in line with some of the competition?
    (As much as I like shooting and currently only own Pentax.. I am NOT a fanboy of any brand; so I appreciate your "unbiased" honest impression!
    Have a good one! 🍻

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  Год назад +1

      The warm weather has come and gone!
      The AF improvements in this firmware update have changed the camera to be honest. Compared to my 7DII I'll have to put some more time on the K3iii to see how they stack up against each other, the EF70-200mm lens I'm using with the Canon is fantastic so it would be nice to compare that like for like against the DFA70-210. But from what I've seen so far using the 55-300PLM it is definitely up there on par with the Canon. I'll hold off saying its better for now, until I test them!

    Every time I see your photos I want to buy another Pentax. So you have any favorite portrait type lens?

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  11 месяцев назад

      Haha thanks mate! My favourite portrait lens to date would most definitely be the 50-135mm f2.8, the rendering is outstanding, lovley deep colours. The only downside for me was the SDM auto focus motor being slow and prone to failure. I've actually sold my copy, but have missed some great photo opportunities so I might look for another copy.

      Hm? Single point? For my understanding all the new Types you use: tracking is the key point.... when you use single point, there is no tracking at all...tracking in my understanding means: give the information of one AF point to another... or did I get something wrong
