  • The Type 38 Japanese infantry rifle, sometimes referred to (incorrectly mind you) as an Arisaka, is what we get to unbox today! I could write you more about how this arm has impacted the world or of it's intricacies, but at this point I'm just typing things about how they were used in the Second Sino Japanese War, the Second World War, the Interwar years, etc, because the description helps the algorithm. I'm aware most of you will never read this unless you've come to click on the links below. But if you've gotten this far, I commend you.

    This reminds me of when my William Evans hammered gun was delivered. There was a metric tonne of packing peanuts and like your rifle covered in bubble wrap. Although mine had about two more layers of it than yours.

    My grandfather brought one back from WWII. I inherited it several years ago and have fully restored it with the type 30 bayonet. It is absolutely a beautiful rifle and shoots fantastically. I had to replace the original stock on mine due to some damage when my dad had it. It took me 5 different stocks until I found the right one that fit correctly on my Type 38. Thanks for the video! I actually learned something new in it NOT being an "Arisaka".

    I’ve got a type 99 short and a type 99 long rifle. Type 99 long is a same length to type 38 long. But type 99 long has anti air sight and mono pod attachments. Also they are quite rare because not many of them were produced compares to type 99 short.

  • @jason200912
    @jason200912 Год назад +1

    there was only one bad part about the type 38 and it was that the hook safety was so much easier to use than the palm safety. also the type 38 carbine and t38 short were the ultimate bolt actions. All they needed was the chrome lining that the t99 got and it would have been perfect. the t99 also had the better peep sight. All of these could easily be put onto a t38. the front sight had pretty good sight protectors
    another small advantage of the t99 was that the rails and dust covers on the t99 were fully interchangeable. on a t38 the dust covers weren't interchangeable.
    i don't know if the two hole venting is better than the 1 hole venting. It seems like it would be the same performance since the bolt only has one gas relief hole for the firing pin.

    My 38 trainer is only able to shoot blanks.Some were made to chamber wooden blanks,some can chamber nothing,some can actually fire rounds. Be sure of what you have before trying to fire it.The safety not working would concern me, possibly only a trainer rifle.

    • @TheFarOffStation
      @TheFarOffStation  Год назад +2

      This is a real rifle, it was made at the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal in the late 00s or early 10s. One can quickly determine it is not a trainer due to build quality, markings, and the most apparent one, it has rifling. As discussed in the video, Japanese rifles of the last century are well know for being hand fit, so parts with not always work if put into another rifle. This was clearly not important to the Japanese when the rifles were only being used in schools for training when they were deemed not fit enough for frontline service.

      “Hmm, this person has a YT channel where they talk about these things in great detail with moderate to high levels of production value, indicating that they probably are passionate enough about the subject to have a decent idea of what they’re talking about. Better treat them like they’re 12.”

      school rifles and trainers are different. School rifle are regular rifles for universities. Training rifle are blank firing pot metal toy guns meant for middle schoolers
