You built a smugglers droid. When I look at it, I see something akin to the Ugly Fighter. Of you are unfamiliar, they are spacecraft cobbled together from spare parts. This droid has a “works but could break down any second” look. I love the dent on the dome. Was it placed? The exposed giblets speak of repairs on the go. Thank you! I love the “could break down at any second”. So true. The dome was damaged on purpose, just wanted to add a bit more weathering to it. Thanks for watching!
You know what it be crazy if you put Alexa inside of one of your droids and get a Harmony hub and you can control all of your media devices through your Droid
Maybe you should make an autonomous Droid that runs around your house and does all sorts of things that'll be awesome it'll need some kind of charging base and be able to automatically return to it
There's this app has been working with it's called ifft if this then that it's basically rudimentary programming for Alexa I use it to hook Alexa up to the Harmony hub or you can download the Alexa app and go into the skills and games section and download the harmony app for Alexa
I got a little teary-eyed when you talked about your father. What a geniously awesome man! Props to you both! I hope one day I get to build my droid too.
Thank you so much for making this video, I've been planing to build Chopper (C1-10P) for half a year now. But seeing other's builds using all these crazy expensive (to me) motors and motor divers kind of shocked me. Seeing the resourcefulness and ingenuity of your father and you, gave me the right boost to start my build, thank you sir!
I believe I met your dad in Midland a few years back. That minion droid is hard to miss, he was telling me about stripping cars for seat motors. I hope to see you there again.
That’s fantastic! We call him the junkyard Jedi, so glad you were able to meet him. We’ll be in Lubbock for their comic con at the end of February, come on down and say hi!
The very first R2-D2 I had ever seen built by Trek Fans, had me drooling. I keep thinking it is way too complicated for me to even start. I know that it really just boils down to taking my time, and doing a lot of research, but so far I've not attempted it. This particular Droid just simply floors me! I mean it is an R2 droid, but so much more! I love that you put your own spin on it! The fact that so many parts move on this Droid is just astounding! That means more electronics... and I'm not sure I am in that league! LOL! But, who knows? maybe one day, in a woodshop far far away.....
I find that pieces cobbled together like that have a lot more personality and a "story" in there than a pristine newer style. Well done, and kudos to the mad scientist dad with his innovative pipe router idea
Making something out of nothing. I love this. I've been kitbashing for a little over a year now. It all started when I made mine and my friend's datapads before our trip to Galaxy's Edge last September. Since then, I haven't stopped customizing, building and kitbashing. BTW, the minion is BRILLIANT!!
We were totally blown away by Bill mentioning us. We have been huge fans of Punished Props for many years. I personally have learned so much from both him and Brittany. Thank you for coming by and checking us out. We hope you enjoy it!
Wow what a great build!! I must say that having seen so many "clean" streamlined astromechs in the films, L3-FTY adds such a refreshing individually. I dare say I enjoy his appearance over the original! All the open panels add such character and give depth to that basic cylinder. I save all your videos. When I have my Own home I'm going to binge watch your channel 😊 again. I'd love a full scale IG series..
The work and time put into this is outstanding , you must be so proud of your dad . Your build has inspired me to make my own smaller droid . Thank you so much for your channel . May the force be with you , always
Time to start building a Dalek! Mine is currently 80% complete, currently making the fiberglass dome after which construction is done and then it’s on to all the electronics!
You know I've watched a few of these R2 D2 builds & I've got to say yours is the most interesting I've seen yet ! Great work 👍. Why build one exactly the same as all the others when you can build & design ur own ! Brilliant !
I think it’s genius that you made them 2/3 scale. I’ve seen some kids come up to the huge full scale r2’s and get scared when he beeped or moved I love that it’s more cost efficient, easier to move and awesome all around! You are awesome and I WANT ONE!!!
You inspired me on to try to learn how yo do this. I'm pretty nervous to be honest, but my son wants to do this with me. We love star wars I'm glad I found this video. Your work amazing. Time to do some homework. Much love and respect.
hi i'm from the U.K and recently came across your channel and think all that you have done is awesome, and its made me think that I could make some stuff out of nothing but not as good as your work. also I work for a recycling firm so I can get my hands on loads of electronic and electrical stuff which is a bonus or what you call greebles. keep up the good work and look forward to your next project
Thank you so much! Love hearing from folks across the pond! Sounds like you work for a place that has a treasure trove of goodies for projects, can’t wait to see what you do with them!
I’m wanting to build an R2 unit that can function as a bass amp. The slightly angled body in third leg mode sorta lends itself to pointing sound up at a six foot bass player! I’ll use a 10 or 12 “ woofer pointed at the floor for the low end, and a couple 8 or 6” speakers and a horn for the mids and highs. I figure I can drop a couple class D bass amps in it and even hide the wireless unit in the head.
L3-FTY looks so cool! I would love to make one of these at one point and if I did I would definitely make a bigger version of my droid I made at Star Wars Galaxy’s edge R3-D3i 😀

I’ve always wanted to tackle this kind of project with my son and daughter and I never thought about scaling down the size to make it easier. Maybe this will finally inspire me to get moving.

By the way, if I can add one more thing. I think that you wanting to do this with your kids is wonderful. My father taught me so many great things, and still does. But more than that, he helped create amazing memories of all the time we spent together in the shop. So my hats off to you for doing the same, your kids will never forget it!
The Smugglers Room that’s very kind of you to offer assistance. I’m sure I’ll need it. I am glad to see you used found parts. I don’t have fancy tools or a money bin so using existing materials and repurposing is right up my alley.

He has a lithium Ion battery installed that can be re-charged again and again.

Do you’d do these! So cool!
