Your original video about these guys is what brought your channel to my attention (I'm an astromech builder) and it's awesome to see more about them. I am constantly amazed at the content and quality of presentation in your videos. Thank you for all the work you do to make and share them with us.
As a child I always found getting dirt on me was the one thing that proved I had fun while playing! Awesome weathering job on the R2! I love this scale so much!
Thanks! They are a lot of fun. You can go to Astromech.net and find plans, 3D print files, and more to make your own. Just scale the files down to the size you want.
@@TheSmugglersRoom I live in an apartment and did a search for anyone doing 3D printing around me, for the repair droids. like from the Mando show. I found someone was selling on Etsy. No such luck. Choice is buying the BIG bucks Fanhome monthly build kit or the 1/6 scale Sideshow one, for now.
Love your droids! This was another great video to watch over my morning coffee here in LA. Love seeing your ever-evolving projects take shape and come to life. Thanks for sharing!
Lefty definitely has a little more oomph and sounds great too. thanks for video! I'm dying to build a R2 unit. Just need the normal stuff.....Time and money! :)
i want a 3.75 inch scale L3-FTY so bad. "They have everything you'd expect from a full-sized astromech in a smaller package" sounds like the ad campaign to sell the L3 series to the galaxy at large...
Ok so now I really want to build a droid. Thank you!!! I’m so happy to have found your channel and to support you. Hope you have a great time on your trip.
First time I see this channel and video, I think this scale is better for a real life astromech, I mean, yeah, bigger means more stuff, but also gives way to be a problem if you need to move, you won't leave the mechanic, you need them!!
I can’t catch the show but I appreciate all you do! You actually inspired me to paint my Astromech from Disney. Keep up the great work and have fun at the show!
I’d love to start building a 2/3 or full scale astromech. I actually just got an R6 from the Droid Depot at Galaxy’s Edge. Idk what scale that is but it a cool
I know this comment is probably coming out of nowhere but it's thanks to you guys that I Decided to make a Two 3rd scale T3 M4 style droid Which his name will be T3 XT. I can't thank you guys enough for the awesome inspiration.
L3-FTY is quite a unique build. Love the creativity you put into that one. Hopefully you'll have your Mando armor done as well. Sadly I won't be attending this year so I can't come see L3 in person.
I really need to pick back up my Droid project. I shelved it when I was moving house. I found an old broken Vax Powa 4000 vacuum cleaner. As soon as I saw it, it just screamed "I am a Star Wars style Droid in waiting". Just been stumped on how I want to do the legs.
Droid videos are always good. I would be *very* interested in more information on the motors you used on these 2/3 scale droids. What is their power, (final) geared rpm, what wheel size you use, and what their final top speed is and whether you wish it was faster or if it's adequate for what you need (or too fast and you never run them near top speed). Motors are expensive and doing this by iteration can be frustrating, a good place to start near the end of this process would really help.
Fun video, I'll be at Celebration so I'll definitely be on the look out for your droids. You might say they will be the be droids I'm looking for... but I don't want to make too obvious of a Star Wars reference.
It would be cool to make a C3PO a human can hold a conversation with. It can be made using a small onboard computer connected to the internet wirelessly. It would run software to recognize spoken language and feed it to ChatGPT as a prompt. The response is given back through speech synthesis. Of course, C3PO was actually a person dressed in a costume, but you can get around the animatronics by carrying his parts in a backpack like Chewbacka did in the movie.
There is a guy in Australia who is making a droid with Roomba parts that will allow his droid to wander around a room map out a house and even avoid people and obstacles like walls and stairs while staying inside a geo fence. I just want to know if it has a timer and can self charge like a Roomba. How cool would it be to have a drinks tray on a droid just wandering around a room at a party serving drinks. Hmmm....now where have i seen that before....had to be in a movie.... ah the name will come to me later.....!!!!!
First time viewer. You do some awesome work there! Now here's a challenge for ya. That's if anyone else has thought of this before. You need to build a replica of Muffet Two from the original Battlestar Galactica series. As most fans know it was a chimpanzee inside the costume. I remember seeing John Dykstra on the Johnny Carson show showing off the chimp in costume and "peeling back the layers" of the costume to reveal the chimpanzee inside. Then throwing the parts to the side and humorously saying the show had been cancelled. To build a Muffet replica would a challenge
@the smugglers room the artisan water mixable oil paint you're using on your Droid, can that stick to action figures if so how long does it take to dry? I got this cheap oil paint at Walmart and it doesn't stick at all. Just curious because you know your stuff! Thanks for another awesome video dude! -Stephen
Hey there. I would imagine yes, it would stick. I use this on all sort of projects and haven’t experienced any issue, including on plastics. As far as drying time, it takes forever! Some projects it takes weeks to dry.
@@TheSmugglersRoom thank you so much for the reply! I see now lol, I haven't been giving it enough time to dry! Hahaha it's my first experience with using oils so now I know! Thank you! You just saved me a lot of headaches and money! I'm painting my black series figs by Hasbro. I absolutely loved your childhood Slave-1 conversion! It was the first video I watched of yours! Anyways, big fan! - Stephen
It's far more satisfying building one yourself. I thought it would be impossible. But with the help and encouragement of other droid builders I now have a full size R5 and a BB along with various pit droids and gonks. It's an addictive hobby, give it a go
@@TheSmugglersRoom no no I didn't express that right. I was trying to say that they existed in the cannon. You would not find a dirty droid in a palace or on the death star. Just like you would not find a clean one in a dirty star port. I was just saying it was not correct to say they didn't exist NOT how you should choose to make yours. I frustrated my artist grandmother for years when she tried to teach me to paint, I have no tallent for it.i do have respect for those that can.
I always ask my self. Why are no droids in our LIFE ? IT do not have to be bullet proof . Just one what can go shopping with my wife and handel the stuff she pay for IT. So i can Stay Ad home and use the tv for starwars .

Soooo much fun! The more droids the better. Thanks for the great inspiration.
Someone needs to combine an astromech with the mapping technology of a roomba so they can roam around the house, cheerfully booping away!
100% agreed!
As a child I always found getting dirt on me was the one thing that proved I had fun while playing!

Very cool, however, in addition to building droids such as the 2/3rd Scale R2-D2, I was wondering what is the smalest scale droid you have ever built?

Thought about adding vents, heatsinks, and fans for the over heating motors?
unfortunately there is not enough room in the foot shells for any of that. There is barely enough room for the motors.
This is brilliant and sooooooooo damn cool!! I NEED ONE OF THESE!!
Have a good time at the SW celebration. When and where is it? Video was excellent by the way.
