- In this episode, I'm kicking off an exciting new project: building an animatronic C-3PO from scratch! I'll be diving into the initial stages of bringing the iconic protocol droid to life, starting with the essentials of 3D printing the parts. Join me as I go over the design, materials, and techniques for creating highly detailed components that capture C-3PO’s unique look and movement. Whether you're a Star Wars fan or a maker looking to build your own animatronics, this episode will set the foundation for a thrilling multi part DIY journey!
We will watch your career with great interest
Can't wait to see where this goes, but the effort is a worth returning to. All the best.
Looking forward to following this build. Good luck!!
Outstanding. This makes me so happy. Every bit of the kid in me just loves this. (And the 51 year old man on the outside :) )
with ChatGBT passing every turing test, you should program a chat GBT to emulate a starwars database, clone his voice with ai and literally have a functional robot talk to you and make gestures
Hate to be pedantic, it's chat GPT!
@@timmyg37 haha woops
It hasn’t passed ANY Turing test, never mind ‘every’ one.
This is what you call passion! Every 80s childhood dream!
Awesome build. Really love the use of 3d printing to make the mold of the "gloves"
I used to use the same supports you are, but then I changed to the "Organic" supports, which are like tree branches, and it was a game changer for me. The supports come off so much easier with little or no clean up. And I think they actually use less filament. I have 3D printed 3 full scale droids (the largest is 7 feet tall) and I think C3PO is on the horizon for me! I will watch your channel with great interest! Great job!
i dunno why - all my AI zeitgeist thinking makes me think of C3PO always these years and the somber music and how you feel about your mould taking shape of him makes me a bit emotional hahaha so weird
Same here. Regular theaters were full so we went to the drive in. I still go there.
Wow man! This is awesome! I hope your channel blows up because of this. Can’t wait to see more!
this is next level, really awesome!
Loved the video, really appreciated seeing the hands/glove portion of your process and how challenging (but rewarding) it is, it really looks great!
Dude this is awesome man, best use of 3D printers yet!
Man, that hand movement looks so good!
Subbed! Looking forward to watching this journey
That is amazing brother. Exceptional work. You get the gold star award.
Amazing Project! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Fantastic work!! Good luck!
Awesome work - looking forward to seeing more
Wow! Very exciting project! Please keep these videos coming!
This is too awesome to not subscribe!
A great build brilliantly explained and presented. Many thanks!
Props to you for starting on the harder one! Everybody builds R2, but C-3PO? That's a whole different thing.
I have to admit I'm both amazed and jealous of your incredible creations. Your imagination and skill are very inspiring. Please keep sharing these wonderful videos.
Nice job! I may be building a droid or two of my own soon and I can't wait to see your progress!
Wow 😃👍🏼👍🏼
Live that your video was short and to the point. No faffing around. I like it.
This series is going to be cool, look forward to more updates!
Looks like it'll be a cool project.
What a cool and fun project! I can't wait to see the final result. I saw video where uv resin mixed with baby powder was used a a filler to make layer lines disappear.
Good day Will Huff, thank you for inviting us into your inspiring work. This is a wonderful video. Best wishes from the Cape of Good Hope peninsula, South Africa
Awesome Job, man!!
Seriously... I just build R2... its almost done, an hell, that was a helluva lot of work. 3PO is just as compley but in just another way. Really looking forward to the next videos!
Very cool project 🤩🤩
Im 1000% following you!
New sub here, can't wait to see how this plays out.
I hope this build gets more attention. Looks really promising!
Super cool so far. Looking forward to the end result.
I'm in, looks like a epic project
Such an inspiration. I’m working on an InMoov robot partially because of seeing your other robot work!
Looking good!!!
Brilliant!
Super cool. Can't wait to see more, subscribed.
This is beautiful and I am a bit jealous that you will have a home full of robots in the future. Thank you for posting this. Keep it up!
I'm curious to see what the future holds as real robot platforms will be coming out in the coming years. I could imagine an aftermarket of amazing artists providing "skins" for different vendors to make them look like enthusiasts favorite characters. Including "skin jobs".
Awesome! I'm thrilled and can hardly wait for your next video!
A real challenge to build animated movie robots, I will be following your progress.
Wow very well done
oooh, this is awesome, i cant wait to see where this goes.
You gained a sub - very cool! I have an aluminum R2 and a mostly printed Threepio! Trying to follow the amazing animatronic steps you guys are doing
I just subbed and watched your "Who am I" video, and I love so many of the films you have worked on. Great work, man! I'm going to catch up on your old content and look forward to the future.
I just realized that I must build a C-3PO. Awesome!
Wow 👏👏
Absolutely Fabulous!
And the only drawback that I can see is his poor Alan/ Alaina head robot getting jealous of that awesome build.
omg ,., great stuff
Oh my Thank the maker!!
These parts look sooooo familiar! I built the Fiberglas suit a long time ago. Great work and I'll be watching for the next video.
Look amazing
Nice work cousin.
Sweet !!! I'm printing a full size suit of Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet, I'm using an Ender 3 so it'll take some time. I can't wait to see the rest of your builds.
@@potrzebieneuman4702 Robbie is on my list as well! Yeah going to take a lot of filament!!
@@Will_Huff I was lucky in that I literally stumbled onto a Patreon bloke called Ian Hughes, another Aussie, and he has an enormous number of this era robots and associated paraphernalia to print. Robby in full size is something I never thought I would ever own, the options for Robby are pretty limited and I couldn't believe my luck in getting the files that fit my small bed printer.
@ yup I’m Patreon of Ian’s as well! Great fellow!
Very nice! I saw another droid or 2 in the mirror in the background. Nice job with the fingers. Priming and sanding is going to be a nightmare. I suggest one of those pedicure sanders like M&M props uses as well as a finger sander and a a dremel. Also, you can use a slurry of acetone and bondo to help cut the primer filler down.
Hopefully you don't run into caking issues that obscure detail.
My R2 has been stalled for years, hopefully you don't run into that problem. Good luck!
GREAT PROJECT! I always wanted a funtional Lost in Space B9 robot.
Maybe you just need a C3PO suit for the tesla bot.
Awesome
wow very cool .👍
Boston Dynamics should make C3PO
Cool, cant wait to see it..thoughI like R2 more..hehe
Today I went to "Forbidden Planet" in London, and I was literally thinking: "When is someone going buy a Tesla Optimus and 3D print it C3P0 body kit...?"
😂😂😂😂
It’s obvious right? lol.
Looking forward to future content. Possible Huey, Dewey and Louie from silent running?
That's Amazing! Thanks for sharing Will! Keep us posted!!! 😎👍
Please build Hardware ‘armor from Milestone comics or based on the character because it would be cool to see.
Imagine the enormous extra plastic waste 3d printing is causing? Just what we need these days.😮
@@mountaincruiser817 these plastics can be recycled into new filament after a process of recapture.
A very interesting project. How will you make the prints "Shiny"? Looking forward to seeing how.
@@dbaider9467 In an upcoming episode.
Thing that surprises me as nobody is designing Fully functional Robots like the ones from star wars. I 4 1 would love to have a C threepio or a RDD2 Or any of the bipedal star wars robots to help me around the house Like the ones we see in skeletoncrew Or mandalorian
👍💯👍
amen im on good old R2
My respect for your work. It all looks very good. I finished my R2D2 in his first version the last few days and C-3PO has also influenced me a lot and I would also like to build him up. Are you planning to release the files at some point?
@@Buddinski88 The print files of 3PO are free on Thingiverse. I may offer the animatronic components on memberships or Patreon ( when those are active!)
Amazing! Might you make your 3-D files available for other who want to follow in your footsteps? "Subscribed"
@@ThatOldTV Hopefully on Patreon and Members on RUclips memberships. When they are active.
I’m speaking of the mechanical parts. The 3PO files are available on Thingiverse for anyone to download and start printing!
Cool project, subscribed.

Jesse M. here, I look forward to seeing what you do with the project. Are you going to customize more of the animatronics other than the hands or will you use the design on Thingiverse? I love to see people innovate and customize their own designs.
@@lastdarkjedi Jesse! Yup I always will do my thing. Take a look at some of my other robot designs and mechanics.
@@lastdarkjedi I’ve been working on making my own quiet servos using BLDC and simple FOC. It’s a deep pit but making progress. I’m so tired of all the hobby servos screaming so loud you can’t hear the dialog!
I'm rooting for you, but if this doesn't have ChatGPT embedded that lets you talk to it, and that emulates C-3PO's voice..and that lets C-3PO 'see' via Chat GPT (oh that rhymes...) then its a fail. Make it happen captn! I'm subbin to watch you succeed.
Mk2 coming soon then hopefully
I have 2 Ender 5 Plus machines and a Pro 3D V-King 400 and my new X1Carbon and so I have enough large printers to print one of these,
Can you provide the link for the suit files please?
@@AndrewAHayes Just search C-3PO on Thingiverse and start collecting parts! They are all there.
Please do this
I would pay a lot of money to have a mask like the ones you made for your children 3 years ago. The skull masks…
You made those masks better than all the artists I’ve found so far. I’m a rapper and I need a skull mask for my persona.
How much $$$ would it take to get you interested in making one for me.
Do you have a business email or some other way to contact you other than here?
@@GunslingerTheGhost You can contact me via the “view email address” listed in the “about” section of this channel.
Do you have a video of the B9 robot?
@@j1035ak yes be sure to look at my other videos, there are two. But I will be rebuilding another B9 where I will cover all the details.
@Will_Huff thanks for the reply. By the way, I've been looking for a Firefox helmet that clint Eastwood wore in the movie of the same name. Do you know if there's a file on that helmet?
@ I’ve not seen a model for that helmet on any of my sites.
if you going to sell the blueprints of it you get rich ;) OBTW what cost it is for this one if printet again?
@@djkingpi Disney owns the rights to Star Wars figures. I make just for me. The cost is about $125 in filament so far ;)
@@Will_Huff Seriously though. You make this life-sized 3 PO and it costs me what? 125USD??? I would be happy to get the prototype with its printing errors if it isn't too expensive.
@ yes this is how much I spend for the plastic to build the parts in a 3D printer. The files to use to print are free on website Thingiverse.
@@Will_Huff I don´t have 3D Printer thats why I asked you about the cost. ok so how we gonna make it because I live in Germany???
@@Will_Huff Hi I´m still waiting for your answer is (to get C3-PO from you) 125€ the final price???
How much did this cost in filament?
About $125 usd.
You should work on making a 3d girlfriend.
Zing! :)
Any chance you could share the files? I'd love to build my own
All the files for 3PO are on Thingiverse. As for the animatronics I might put them up for members for Patreon and Memberships ( when available)
please tell me you'll put in a AI service into it like Claude or Llama - i've been waiting for someone to start this for these recent years (months in these AI times feel like years)
@@ginogarcia8730 it’s only a matter of time!
@@Will_Huff hurahhh - kudos to you droid engineer, looking at your videos you've been at this for a long time and now it's time to flex I guess haha - looks great man all your work, will be watching yah
Anthony is pronounced Ant Tony
@@Concreteowl Is this the actual Ant Tony? If not, I don’t care.
Greeblies, not nurnies or whatever you keep saying.
@@8BitLife69 Sorry pal I’ve been in the film industry 30 years.. we invented the word/s. From wiki : Greebles, also greeblies (singular: greebly),[1] or "nurnies", are parts harvested from plastic modeling kits to be applied to an original model as a detail element. Have a great day. You learned something new.
@@Will_Huff As a master prop builder going on nearly 30 years, I assure you, you're wrong.
@@8BitLife69 just gave you the proof but you prolly didn’t read. Good day.
